Death Shroud when downed
I’ve been playing necro since 1st beta weekend and have never heard this to be the case. If you watch the numbers on his health (which I know is hard because of the quality of the recording) he actually appears to pop death shroud at around 100 and something health, not once it’s all gone. So in answer, no there has never (to my knowledge) been the option to pop death shroud instead of downed state. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. However in the video, you notice that it says “Fight to survive” in the green bar, instead of it being just blank like normal.
Also someone here says that happens aswell, is he mistaken?

Originally, when ANet revealed the profession back in 2010, the necromancer didn’t have a downed state, but instead went to death shroud when his health went to zero. This was changed later.
That was the downed mechanic of the Necromancer befor he got dumbed down completely.

Yep you’re right my mistake
If I recall correctly, there are (or were) two versions of Death Shroud. One, is that you activate whenever you feel like it and the other auto-activates upon getting downed, assuming you have enough life-force left to engage Death Shroud, else you just fall into the usual downed state.
