Deflated Again
If it’s any consolation, Eles are seriously underwhelmed by their Elite specialization as well. I’m not as familiar with the Guardian spec but it sounds like Dragonhunter is a bit underwhelming as well. The chips may still have some falling to do, but my suspicion is that ANet undershot the power level for these Elite Specs on purpose and is hoping to slowly juice them up so as to avoid destabilizing existing specs.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
None of the elite specializations should be more than a tiny bit better than a non-elite specialization. Mostly, elite specializations are there to improve performance for a particular situation.
Reaper offers shouts and cleaves.
I think it is worth noting that characterizing the elite specs as “a complete class rework” is not correct. I think many wish that it were, actually, and it has been noted by some that some of the issues with Reaper really are issues with Necro as a whole.
The previewed revenant a few weeks ago was severely underpowered. They said that the purpose of the beta was to see what the community could do with the skills.
The numbers got a big buff in the next beta.
Maybe this is how anet does things.
Serious Question: knowing what happens to overpowered stuff in betas (it gets nerfed hard and never sees use again), do you have higher long term hopes for the Reaper or for the Chronomancer right now?

I am hopeful sir, but "The best predictor of future behavior is … past behavior ". I bought into the recent hype and excitement, but it just seems the same old….Necro’s just cant have nice things…
Let me sum it up, if you have followed Brazil’s last two video’s regarding the Necro’s trait changes and the recent one regarding his review of the Reaper, he basically stated the same thing in both, Dejavu anyone :
“Disappointment in the damage output”
Necro = Disappointment
Sigh

The warhorn and shouts might be good and it wouldnt matter.
Since Elementalists are at the very top of the chart, almost everything will be underwhelming to them.
Gunnar’s Hold
Hope Springs eternal.
Downed state got fixed.
I think the core feeling of the Reaper’s kit (and yes, that includes the slow-as-[slow thing] Greatsword) is pretty spot-on. Playing it feels like the “unstoppable monster” that Anet pitched with the reveal.
It’s just a matter of tuning the math (damage, cast times, cooldowns) and maybe splashing in a little more stability for the longer attacks. A few mechanics adjustments beyond that (Some people are dissatisfied with the Life Force being on GS3 and RS1, personally I could be fine with both if the numbers were tuned better) and Reaper seems like it will be in a really good spot.
Math is easy to tweak even late in development, over-all mechanics and handling not so much. Reaper is a good foundation and just needs the numbers looked at.
Upfront, I want to apologize for dragging up an old post, but I want to rescind my original post and thank ANet (Specifically Robert Gee) for what they have done for us and this class.
It still won’t be dungeon meta, but I can certainly live with the current state of the Necromancer.
Cheers and here is to hoping that the Nerf Bats are a “swing and a miss” for the near/far future.
Damage wise, I can’t say im too excited about reaper, but in terms of feel it is an amazing experience. I hope that it will get to a point where reaper will be able to support by doing damage, but as right now I am still happy at the core functionality of reaper (outside the trait soul eater; cant say thats stellar).

Honestly Reaper is an amazing improvement, I don’t know what everyone is going on about. Reaper is lots of fun to play, do I think its the most damaging class in the game? No. But it works just fine. Did you guys even bother swapping out of that Cel gear? Put in some Scholar runes, equip an ascended gs? I can’t wait for launch.
I mean we can hit 100% crit in reaper form no problem, we can stay in reaper form for a long time, and when ya have to drop out ya just spam shouts auto attack couple times and your back to full and in reaper in no time at all.
We have 25xvulnera 25xMight and 100% crit chance from selfsustain and still do less dmg than other classes nice balance.
Reaper is widely considered one of the best elite specializations…. what forum you come from brah?

And do you think a class that can self-stack 25 vuln, 25 might, and 100% crit chance eclipsing other classes in damage would be good balance?

No it wouldnt , what this means is they cant increase our dmg, and what more important is our ability to scale our damage is already at maximum, you can increase your crit dmg and get some multipliers but thats all.
