… Necro staff fire rate is 1.3 seconds. …

But, but… Skill fact on Necrotic grasp states it should be 3/4 seconds?

JonPeters.5630

That being said it looks like you can fire one of these orbs every .8 seconds whereas Necro staff fire rate is 1.3 seconds. Grasp does pass through targets in a line so I feel that differential is fairly warranted.

I feel fair amount of bias.

How does necromancer community feel about this?

Incoming tool tip fix. Just my 2 cents.

On topic, yeah its awful, but if you are using staff for the auto attack (at least in a condition build) something has gone horribly wrong.

As much as I would like a spectral beam that was instant and caused burning, I can accept a horrible auto attack, like axe, because I like the marks.

the tooltip is bugged, and is included in a completely new list of twelve tooltip bug fixes on next month patch!

About every cast time on tooltips is more or less wrong and doesn’t account any aftercast time whatsoever.

Tooltip isn’t bugged as the cast time is indeed .75 seconds. The fire rate Jon mentioned also includes the .5 second aftercast delay.

Not saying it’s any good, just saying the tooltip is accurate.

They should, however, include accurate aftercast time to all abilities.

Agreed, since I can’t animation cancel to actually get the .75 second cast rate.

I’m beyond caring about the staff auto attack. It’s so bad it just doesn’t factor into my opinion of the staff at all; if it didn’t even exist, the situations when I’d use the staff would be identical.

We shouldn’t have to accept staff as a fire and swap weapon, nor should we with Axe.

Staff 1 is useless and the cool downs on the marks are too long.

Other classes weapons stand well on their own, why shouldn’t this be the case here?

Pretty sure the guardian orbs at least track the targets… Necro grasp can be avoided just by walking.

Yesterday I was messing around in moshpit with a dagger power build. Ended up seeing a lone mesmer on a point with a greatsword, to my amazement I actually landed an auto attack with my staff and it crit for 1,800. I ended up winning the fight, but that’s not my point. My point is I actually landed an auto-attack. I feel like I should get a reward for that.

In what universe is that .75 seconds?! Try to time the yellow cast bar and tell me that’s 0.75 seconds. What is “aftercast delay”? Do other classes have it?

Most skills have an aftercast delay. Only instant-cast skills do not (save a couple, like Corrupt Boon and Wall of Reflection). During that period, no skill (other than those same instant-cast skills) can be activated. GW1 had them too.

And yes, the yellow bar is .75 seconds to fill.

Everyone has it…. but its different lengths depending on what the animation is suppose to look like. Other mmo’s have had what they call animation cancelling, where you could jump, or move, or cast something else, and it would stop the animation of the downswing on your attack. This game doesn’t let you do that, unless you dodge roll, in which case you lose that .5 seconds of time anyhow.

Alright, you’ve made me done some work to find out exactly how much time it takes to cast.

Software used: FRAPS and virtualdub

Notice the time frame. Image is composed from 3 snapshots from the video, sequentially. Yellow cast bar dims after the 0.9 seconds marks (video cut there).

Note that at this time no projectile is visible still . Actual cast happens after the 0.9s mark.

Aftercast delay you talk of begins when the yellow bar disappears from the screen.
Even with neglecting the fact the cast doesn’t actually go off at 0.9s mark this is not 0.75s.
