Does toughness do anything at all?
You are probably taking more condition damage (ignores toughness) than you had been. Try to focus on making your cleanses as effective as possible and see if your experience improves.
I play WvW but yea i agree. Is it more condition builds running around nowadays?

I dunno but I’m really at a loss for how just changing from carrion to rabid that I seem to just be awful now. I’m not really seeing a lot more with condition’s but in general I am dying SOO much more than I ever have before and it seems really weird. Normally I run a condi or terror build with about 24k hp and I can stay up forever. Switching to rabid with the same build I dropped to about 19k hp but have about 2k toughness which I figured would be even more tanky. Somehow it is proving to be far less so then I thought. Typically Im in the top scorer most every match but since switching today Ive been at the bottom every time.
My math I’ve done on the subject makes Vitality better than Toughness in most circumstances (Even more so if any points are put into Death Magic trait line)
But since the main reason to decide between Carrion and Rabid is due to Rabid providing extra crit for more Barbed Precision procs then you should be fine going Carrion (As long as your Sigils aren’t also crit based)

Imo, if you’re faced with the choice to either go full carrion or rabid, then only go with rabid if you need the precision.
But once you have the laurels to spend on ascended gear you could mix it up with soldiers or these kind of trinkets

Im just really shocked that changing my trinket had such an effect. I went from carrion to rabid in spvp and I went from feeling like an all star and putting up 250+ a match to having scores of like 30 and just getting killed over and over.
Well… the change shouldn’t be that drastic, you must have had bad luck on top of that.
It could be perception, or just bad luck. The numbers don’t back up that you should last way longer with carrion. There are certain class builds that don’t put out much condition damage then rabid will help you survive better. But of course you have to be aware of condition damage builds and get rid of it, which should be easy as a Necro.
If you regen life during combats, or are just good at being defensive, allowing longer combats and more healing, you will want toughness.
When I first built full rabid I did feel like I needed just a bit more health in a lot circumstances. Points in blood magic and ascended gear (like above post) put me at around 22K with super high toughness, now it feels like I can stay alive forever, unless I totally screw up.
In big WvW fights that last minutes, the amount of healing and sustain that goes on, benefits toughness a lot more. If you are in combats that are quick and bursty, which is what may be happening to you in sPVP, focus fire, carrion is going to defend burst better, and give you a little more time to react.
spvp has more condition builds running around, especially trap rangers and engineers.
Try running a no toughness build vs. thieves or mesmers and see where that gets you. You won’t last too long.
You’ve got 3 skills that grant condition removal/transfer on a necromancer. You have no skills outside going death shroud that protect against direct damage.
The necro weakness is to direct damage trains and their kittenty weak healing. Toughness will help.
