Minions are just bad period. Making them F1-F4 isn’t going to change anything.
Necromancers are so much more than minions.

Even if the only thing in gw2 that is even remotely interesting for me is minion aspect of necromancer… that is a horrible idea in more ways then I’ll ever bother to list.
Short version: I hate being forced into anything that is a #1 no-no. They are bad as they are now and making it into a main mechanic will just make it even worse. A class mechanic that gets 1 shoted by any stray aoe in entire game? Pfft… ridiculous.
And yes this is my short version. Before considering trait/stat/situation/tactical application and all other issues that would arise.

1.- The whole necromancer class is built and balanced with DS in mind, other classes probably as well. They will not do what you propose, period.
2.- Minions are fine, you need to get good and learn to use them. They will be even better once the few issues they have are corrected (They will probably be OP after the health buff anet said is coming).
3.- DS is also fine, again learn how to use it instead of complaining. It’s only issue is Doom’s bug (doesnt do anything and triggers CD if used right as you enter DS).

Remove a class mechanic that benefits every build in favor of benefiting ONE build, which isn’t even our best or most interesting, does not seem very intelligent, does it?
If you want that play Ranger. That’s their class mechanic for a reason.

This has never happened to me, and I tap into Death Shroud to instantly Doom most of the time I use Death Shroud.
I think it would work a whole lot better if Death Shroud was removed. Instead, have the minons as F1 to F4, so they don’t hog up utility slots. This way, people would actually use them in game.
Great, another Minionhappy person. I don’t want Minions. I hate using Minions, I think they are awful and should just plainly be removed for different pets/mechanics.
What you suggest would be forcing me to play a Minion role to make use of a mechanic I wouldn’t want to begin with.
Not everyone likes minions and we picked the Necromancer class knowing that minions would be optional. I personally play Necro for the durability from DS, lifesteal, wells, and control conditions like Chill. Minions play no part in this. Had the class been designed from the ground up with minions being the foundation it wouldn’t be an issue as we could have picked another profession. Forcing a love or hate mechanic on everyone after launch is just a bad idea.

Other necromancers have also reported that it doesn’t happen to them, yet it does happen to me pretty consistently, both in PvE and PvP. I have of course checked issues of range, evades, blocks, etc. I also don’t remember it happening to me at release when I first began to play with the necro… I will tekittenrther.

Really having a full arsenal of minion’s + set of wells with staff would be way OP.
Umadbro? DS best class mechanic hands down.
Although this will never happen, I like the idea of having minions work like illusions. The minions in their current state would obviously be too overpowered for F keys. But it would feel a lot more Necromancer-esque to see minions popping out of the ground on weapon skill and F key usage. I personally feel that minions were implemented poorly. But its too late for an overhaul. Obviously Necromancer traits are built and balanced around Death Shroud, so there is no way they’ll remove it.
