I don’t really care about pve on my necro, but I’d be happy to know if ‘worst dungeon class’ means that necro is strong but selfish, or just simply weak? What about soloing dungeons? I know it makes very little sense to do it, but is it possible? If yes, which ones?

Dungeons in general are built around an idea that you’re supposed to see bosses actions and react in a way to completely avoid damage. That means using dodges, blocks, invulns, etc. Necro has none of that…

This is why it’s the worst solo class for dungeons. Also note, lack of stability as well.

As for grouping, most classes bring something more than damage, necros… not really. You bring some vulnerability but nothing to compare to the burst vuln of Eles, or the sustain/burst of Engi. So it’s not so much that you’re selfish, it’s that you really have nothing to contribute even if you try. Necro’s niche ability is boon stripping, but that’s simply not useful very often in dungeon content, and even when it is, it’s in a way that doesn’t promote necro’s capabilities as well as it does mesmer.

I can solo the honor of the waves p2 pretty easily with necro, though I haven tried others.

Honestly damage wise we aren’t too bad, and we can last pretty long if we manage our deathshroud correctly. The thing with necros in dungeons though is we bring nothing for the team. We don’t stack vulnerability well even with axe, WoS, Focus, and unyielding….whatever trait that gives 2 vulnerability stacks on life blast.

We can’t stack might, or stealth, or anything meaningful, and if we use wells, they prove more harmful to the team than helpful, as they cover up fire fields. We have one group condition cleanse with WoP, but that takes a while and you have to stay in it.

Finally death shroud stop heals on us, and it’s tough for teammates to tell whether or not you’re in deathshroud or are normal, so they might try to heal you to find you we’re just fine.

Now, ALL this being said, we do have some decent qualities. We’re tanky with deathshroud, so we can take some hits. We do good damage, and can apply a good bit of chill, immobilize, and cripple. If you time the wells right so they don’t overlap with other fields, again, this helps.

Honestly though any class can go through any dungeon so long as everyone has a vague impression of what they are supposed to do. It’s just people who like to do dungeons in the most efficient way possible or the fastest way. The only problem I have with bringing my necro to a dungeon is that I also play engi, and when I’m an engi, I can contribute stealth and might, and decent condition cleaner and healing. I feel like I’m part of the team when I’m an engi, where as necro I feel like I’m just sorta there.

Mmmm keep in mind that most people on the forums talk about “meta” and “speed runs”. I really feel you can do anything with any class, it just isn’t going to be optimal. That said, I have not done any dungeons on my necro – I use my warrior for those exclusively. I use my necro for AoE loot bag pickup in CS and WvW.

Sometimes I am surprised that I can be effective in a zerker GWE run. All that AoE debuff can smooth over some rough edges and I can resurrect downed glassy kitten s.

Worst attrition class in game. Only class to have no endurance regen, block, invul, etc, and very little stability.

We scare support/healers as our DS life force, shows up as our health bar, so we look like were constantly dyeing.

We take no heals in DS, meaning if we use it for defense, we miss the group heals.

We don’t really have a role or job. We used to be ‘king of condi manipulation’. Tho other class’s now do that much better.

We don’t really give the buffs. Even Vuln stacking, a Eng can do it aoe quicker than we can single to cap. Even our combo fields, not really sort after.

Main tools are Condi – group wide stacks means a solo necro can sit on cap, meaning any condi the group throws is 100% wasted.

Minions count as players and upscale elites/champs/events.

Main ‘zerker’ spec/weap is dagger. Which is melee range as a squishy clothie, and we don’t even cleave. (Tho 2 target buff kinda helps a little I guess).

Our main ‘support’ seems to be lots of regens. Tho they can be overwritten by people with no heal power, constantly & accidentally. Same with all our chills & poison. Due to the way the game actually works, they are totally pointless anywhere it matters.

I enjoy dungeons with Condition Necro and I was never denied unless from the noob zerker rush groups that I don’t want to play with anyway.

The dmg is fine and it handles bigger groups of mobs very easily. If you play Power, the dmg is even greater but it needs much more interaction from your part as you are more squishy. No idea about minions, it was always boring for me to play.

Is it a bad class? No, I don’t think so. Are there better ones? Sure there are but I don’t see how a Necro would be weaker than half of the other classes.

Necromancers do have some trouble building good synergy with organised dungeon groups, but as some others have said, unless you’re joining a “speedclear/meta” group, most groups will not care as long as you’re level 80/are experienced and have decent gear. I’ve never been kicked from any dungeon or Fractal group on my Necromancer (even though I only use MM!)

Player skill/brains/manners matters MUCH more than class.
While there’s no dungeon situation where a ‘necro dose it best’ & many where ‘a necro has to work harder’. There’s been plenty of times I’ll be on my necro, and the people dead on the ground will be trying to tell me how to play.

Perfect example: pug run, ‘Zerker group iz u @ zerker necro’ as intro question. I"m like ‘yeh… ok’. The main talky warrior, died on 2nd group of trash. 4 times on 1st boss. This kept happening.
3rd boss – he runs in and dies before getting in melee range. Res him, he dies again before making it to hit the boss. Other guy runs over to res him. Both die.
Anyway, by about 75% boss life, the party is dead except me. Mr War is “YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY, YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS, WIPE IT, RUN IN AND DIE, WIPE IT” (Few more cat words, but ya get the jist)

So, I solo the rest of the boss.
The group kicks me.

Point: I’m glad the morons brand themselves, less chance of the kitten rubbing off!

(Some of the best /fastest groups I’ve run with, the question is ‘can you understand, and follow simple instructions’ and ‘what role do you enjoy playing’)

Just feel the need to mention it as a lot of people are completely oblivious when it happens. Many fights have different mechanics for melee and range. That’s one of the only times I get really annoyed with other players. Sometimes one person doing something can screw the rest of the party, now most of the time as I said they don’t realize this so I usually try to explain it. A good example though is Lupicus in phase 2/3. In Phase 2 if you are range he’ll do a shadowstep to you and knock you down. That is frustrating because he does that then people chase and if they’re not fast enough he’ll teleport back and then starts bouncing around. in phase 3 he’ll bubble people if they’re not in melee range or are moving too much. This is a pretty devastating attack that you need stability to get out of, making it quite frustrating if you didn’t prepare specifically for it thinking it wouldn’t happen.

Just a little comment as when I see stories like the one above that’s the situation that comes to mind. It may not have been the situation you were in Bweaty so not trying to say it was, just a worthwhile comment to people who may be reading and may have been in a situation like that.

Yeh, fa sure!

There was word of adding VOIP in dungeons, and that being part of there design.
I’ll also add, I’ve met some of the nicest & funnest people while in private VOIP servers while doing GW2 dungeons.

I’ll also add, I think I come off sounding very angry & mean in my forum posts. I’m not MadBro, just over hyped/excited & passionate. Happy N gigly mostly tho ;-P
