Q:
Explain Signet Of Vampirism's Passive?
A:
its not even really a flat damage mitigation with a 1sec recharge, well unless you are only being hit on average less that once per second while in combat.
It is about as useful as any signet passive, in that its usefulness is actually measured more by its active.
It’s kind of unfortunate/fortunate necromancer and reaper both have healing skills that trump this signet. The spike potential of the active in a power necro/reaper build has remained obscure for group play.
Ah ok, thanks the Active is nice and personally I find it helps in team fights a bit along with the Wells the Passive just kept confusing me. I feel like it should be like Thief’s Signet and Thief’s should heal whenever you Dodge or Evade or something. But I guess it’s not an all-bad Passive, from what you said it sounds like I should just focus on the Active side and to not worry about the Passive side. Thanks!
The the passive was actually a lifesteal in the past. And with past i mean the leaked version of it. I never really understood why they changed it for the released version. With its icd i doubt it would have mattered much. Then again like you said the passive would have been much better if it was more like the thief one, also on hitting rather then getting hit.
They should just change to life steal on hit instead. Make the whole signet an aggressive heal rather than half passive, half aggressive.
But ANET hates Necros xD I doubt they will, it’d be ‘too much work’ on their end I’d imagine.
Will the signet works when in shroud?
Will the signet works when in shroud?
No. The necro utility bar is disabled whilst in shroud.

Actually think they meant utilizing the active part.

Oh in that case yes it does, since its necro life steal (which does heal in shroud) as opposed to sigil/rune life steal.
Its bad. Thats all you need to know.
It was used in sPvP for the Signet Corruption Build, but now that build is bad because everyone can kill you easy and fast even without his boons, then corrupt they’re boons (unless stability) is more or less a waste of time. We used it to kill eles in they’re gold ages, that’s all.
Anyway, in a team fight situaion, where you’re always under the enemy focus, that passive can heal you for 3250hp every 10 seconds, 6500hp every 20, more than the other heals, and is only it’s passive effect.
In theory it’s a good heal, if you’re fightin in the front line without shroud, in practice is a bad heal no one use anymore.

I doubt the op cares about pvp. A lot of his posts flat out say that.
And for pve i think it is still used since like bloodfiend it also does damage. But thats mainly for the active part.
The passive was meant to be a minor damage reduction in line with vampiric traits so Ookami understands it correctly.
I rarely use SoV anymore. Its heal was an early experiment in providing Necromancer with group utility through shareable siphons. However, SoV did not change Necromancer’s meta ranking. Likewise for Vampiric Presence. Spotter was, and is, far more popular.
Signets of Suffering was an attempt to give Necro might stacking and was the only reliable source until Reaper made it look insignificant. The boon corruption is good but ultimately unnecessary given the amount of stripping in the game while CtD is a solid dps increase in PvE and SS is good in PvP.

I’m gonna sound like a complete idiot but what is ‘Spotter’? Is that the nickname for the Bloodfiend or Your Soul Is Mine! or am I completely off the mark? And I agree, after running with it for a bit I’m starting to wonder if I should run Bloodfiend instead, though my only problem with that one is how fragile it is without DM. I don’t typically need to cast my Heal skill anyways, so utilizing the minion instead would probably be smarter but I’m still debating with myself on that one. SoV isn’t bad in my opinion, it’s just not as good as it could be. Like, I feel like Thief’s Signet Passive (pretty sure I mentioned this already in this thread but if not……) should be SoV’s while Thief’s Signet Passive should heal whenever you dodge/evade. SoV’s Active then could just be used/seen as a big group lifesteal, so Passive is selfish while Active benefits everyone. Just my thoughts though.
Spotter is a Ranger trait that gives allies precision allowing them more frequent critical hits. Crit rate scales dps up a lot more than siphons.
Edit: with SoV, you should be using it as much as possible, and in the presence of allies, for the dps increase to be effective. Use it even if you do not need a heal.

It saw meta use in raids, before the jagged horror nerf.

Yeah in group scenarios I spam it whenever I can and try to space my Wells enough to effect the enemy while still providing the benefits to the other melees. How would you compare it to Bloodfiend, though?
