Fear now affected by defiant huge nerf
massive shame this. I had such fun against bosses and champion mobs (particularly champion mountain trolls that aoe freeze you) being able to instantly jump into ds, fear the enemy away and be able to get away undamaged. Even untraited that 2-3 seconds was vital to a class that has 0 stability!!!
Big shame. They boost the necromancers by applying more damage to the fear, only to ruin its main purpose (as a cc)
Instead of fixing necros gigantic list of bugs they making him even worse.. GJ Arena.net.. as always.. Btw thiefs still have the ability to interupt with offhand pistol (no cooldown)

Even though I, as a necromancer player, loved the fact that Fear wasn’t affected by Defiance, but try to be fair guys.
Necros were never meant to be able to fear through every special ability of a boss.

By the same argument, rock golems shouldn’t suffer from bleeding or poison. Zhaitan should be immune to any physical damage due to “heroic armor”. etc

Necros were never meant to be able to fear through every special ability of a boss.
It didn’t make them OP though. Most groups wanted to stack warriors and guardians. Having something special gave me a reason to say, “No, you wouldn’t rather have a warrior than me. Look at this.” Now it’s like… yeah maybe I should just play my warrior.

…Really? I thought the logic being used here was “controlling effects are affected by Defiance, Fear is a controlling effect, therefore Fear should be affected by Defiance”, not “crazy bullkitten”.
I know you feel jipped by Necromancers being a buggy class, but if you chuck a tantrum whenever they fix something that worked in your favour, they’re not going to do it for very long. If you think Necros need a super duper Defiance workaround then maybe the problem isn’t Fear, it’s Defiance.

I know you feel jipped by Necromancers being a buggy class, but if you chuck a tantrum whenever they fix something that worked in your favour, they’re not going to do it for very long. If you think Necros need a super duper Defiance workaround then maybe the problem isn’t Fear, it’s Defiance.
They coulda just changed the tooltip on defiance to only specify stun, daze, and knockback if the consistency really matters all that much.
The fact is that before necro had a cool unique thing that didn’t make it OP, but it was taken away for the sake of consistency rather than looking at it and analyzing the quality of gameplay.

Can’t do much damage, can’t heal my group, and now can’t interrupt. And still – can’t block.
It is a rather lame change honestly. I understand fear is a controlling effect. I understand that it was bugged. But I also understand that Necromancer as a profession is loaded with more bugs then the popularly preferred classes of warrior and guardian. I also understand that fear was, keyword was, a useful ability during boss fights. Now that it’s been nerf’ed we are left with Wail of doom, and I think the Flesh Golem’s charge in our bag of tricks. Unless they nerf’ed those two. Not sure as I haven’t run an instance since a day or so before the nerf patch. As a normally heavy dungeon diver, this sucks. And I am greatly displeased. I’m not angry at ArenaNet. I know that they noticed that it shouldn’t have been working that way and slapped a nerf sticker on it. That’s their job. I am angry however that they took the time to fix that particular issue over other more important and detrimental issues to the necromancer class. One would expect they would make that adjustment after first fixing something that DOES hinder necromancers. Rather then taking away one thing that does kinda help us even out.

The ones that weren’t were made completely immune to CC.
So really that’s no excuse.
