Q:

As a medi guardian, how do i actually go about countering these guys?

In Spvp they’re just incredibly tough, take insanely little damage due to the toughness, the extra 20k or so HP from deathshroud, the constant chills, fears, cripples, blinds, the pressure from the conditions is too much for me to handle, how do i counter you? Or am i kitten out of luck with the basic medi build?

The funny thing is, the only toughness the classic terrormancers get is from 4 points in our toughness trait, we only have much hp due to carrion amulet. 14,9k extra health from deathshroud which isn’t even full most of the games due lack of generation as a terrormancer (only 2 skills & traited spectral armor) , I think medi guards should just engage/blind and damage the kitten out of a necro. We only have 3 fears (1 passive proc every 60 seconds, the others need to be landed & are screwed by stability/random block (unless staff mark which is unblockable when traited), we can put up a tough fight, but if you dodge cboon/dark path/doom/locust swarm/putrid mark/ reapers mark we have a huge lack of survivability/counterattack. + you got the ability to use your elite, which a terrormancer usually won’t use because of huge CD

My necromancer got upgraded to a scythe-wielding maniac.. I like it.

I utilize my blocks effectively and try to dodge the big hitters, but i just can’t seem to outsustain them, if i can catch a necromancer without a Deathshroud bar, It’s pretty much free game as i can burst them before they can get anything off, but if they have that bar full, It’s guaranteed i’m going to lose.

The main problem i have is dodging those fears, it’s impossible to tell when they’re coming from a good necromancer because they have no travel or cast time, they’re just “boom” done, and once I’m feared, I can pretty much say goodbye to 30-40% of my HP just from the conditions applied while feared and the damage from the fear itself.

Why would you want to outsustain a necro (a profession that is supposed to outsustain its opponent) as a mediation guardian? Remember you are a burst spec so you should be aggressive and try to burst the necro down. Yes if the necromancer has full DS you have the disadvantage but for a terrormancer to have full DS in a spvp match, this would mean you were already losing the match rather heavily or let the necromancer free cast too long.

It’s going to depend heavily on the DS bar. You should be packing two stunbreaks, which should prevent you from being fear-locked. Don’t blow your cooldowns, save CFP until you absolutely need to convert up (preferably after you get corrupt booned), and make sure to get inside their hitbox for GS2 and GS5. You want to burst them fast, not let the Necro sit around and ramp-up effectively.

Also, if you’re having particular difficulty with them or see a number of them on your enemy’s team, try the Hammer variant mediguard, as that one pretty much floors Necromancers with Hammer 5 and the extra CCs.

What you said about full ds bar is true and one our bug problems weve been asking to fix. 0% LF is a free kill and 100% LF is way too much in 1v1, thats just fact.

So try to be aggressive and just spawn camp the necro so he stays 0% lf whole game. Theres even bug that makes us lose -23% lf on respawn

Medi Guard has an incredible advanatge over any Necromancer. Counter for Corrupt Boon, insanely high power damage, good condition removal, blinds, blocks, heal on every utility…

If Necro is trying to “fearbomb”, assuming it means dumping everything just for one chain, you have the best counter to that in a game – contemplation of purity. Besides, Necro who dumps everything in one shot is terribly bad Necro.

Here’s a quick guide – engage with Shield of Wrath and scepter auto. It will block the passive fear and give you great opener. kittenite condition (you have to have at least one), Binding Blade, Necro ports/ tries to run away, Leap, pull back, Wave of Wrath inside the hitbox, swap weapons and pressure with Scepter. At this point Necro is either dead or use his heal, in which case it’s already GG because we do not recover under the pressure of decent medi guard.

Med guard is actually very CD limited when it comes to stun/fear breaks, & packs very little stability unless they sacrifice a good portion of their ability to close gaps or remove conditions.

They are also bad at staying on an opponent who can kite well, because while they do have a teleport/leap they do not have much in the way of CC, slows, cripples etc…

They do burst & sustain well for a spike dps spec however, but if you know the weaknesses and take advantage allot of specs can beat them so long as they don’t try to stand toe to toe and hur dur damage them down.

In fact, no stability is more like a problem for Condi Necro. And if they can, it happens usually after you just use CB, with CoP.

Necro is a slow opponent. They don’t need that many CC against us, immobilize and ports which they get are usually just enough. You don’t kite that much in PvP. Points, points. In close range their spammable scepter hits like a truck.

I’m a little bit biased, since I play mostly Power build and there’s simply no better counter than Medi guard to that.

Condition Necro has more fair matchup. But still, fighting a Medi Guard who knows how to play his build and has some general idea is a chore. Blinds are quite problematic for Necro, even on condi builds. Blind, block when Necro hops into DS. Gg, you’ve just bought yourself some hefty time unless he has LTransfer or Swarm.
