This matchup is pretty infuriating. They literally do 7k dmg with staff 5, which has no wind up so you can’t dodge it. They swap to sword use sword 3 and maybe two, then spend all resources in dodging/blocking until their cds are off and kill you with a 2nd staff 5. I feel like I literally don’t even have a chance to hurt them

I just feel like a power rev counters you. Being able to dodge our damage while putting out damage. I haven’t beaten any really good revs in 1 on 1 and the other revs let you hit them with hard hitting abilities. One thing that helps is make sure you can swap to staff when they do start to block. To me it just feels like a direct counter but maybe I just don’t have the experience to beat them.

1 on 1 is very different from a team on team fight. Thanks to anet’s brilliant decision to make unrelenting aassaut and precision strike split accross multiple targets, it is nearly impossible to fight properly when there is a condi necro or mesmer in the area. Revs can’t do the damage they need to quickly enough to avoid taking so many conditions

If no class stacking was allowed in league like in ESL it wouldnt be so bad but very often there are 2 or 3 condi necros on one team making shiro glint useless and every other build that might help against conditions equally as useless at fighting other things

With the way PvP is now for the most part centered around conditions, all the legends should have condi cleanse. Glint should have an upkeep skill like Embrace the darkness elite on Mallyx but converts 1 condi to a boon every second, would be very fair seeing what condi necro and condi mesmer are putting out, condi necro especially with their corruptions.

Its good that condi necro got buffed but making power rev virtually useless at defending against the buffs is a pretty silly move. If UA and precision strike focused on one target then that would be a different story.

Its frustrating to duel a rev, but you can slowly waste his cds and finally rekt him with a few marks. Revs literally melt with any condi pressure, so your main goal isnt to save your strongest skills, but to use them to force his deffensive cds and then just staff#3/scepter AA until he’s dead.

I frequently played revenant in the last time.

1st: There are 3 builds for revenant:
- Invocation Shiro/Glint
- Retribution Shiro/Glint
- Condition Mallyx.

Most of the time you will run into the first or second.

2.1 Invocation Shiro/Glint.
This version has very high crit chance with fury (around 90%). You should always have weakness for them. Try to save your cc for their “impossible odds” (the quickness buff). They can remove chill in Shiro stance with their backroll, so i recommend applying chill while they are in Glint.
Glint frequently pulses boons, perfect time to use your corruption skills. Revenant also has no condition cleanse in Glint, but their healing skill “Facet of Light” converts all damage into healing.
This build can also cleanse one condition and stunbreak when they swap legends.

2.2 Retribution
This one is easier for necros but harder for everyone else. You notice stability stacks on dodge roll? Then it is a retribution herald.
This one has 2 annoying autoproc passives: The first one taunts you if you try to cc them, it also applies protection. Use Plague Signet against this, however it can also proc if you use nightmare runes. The second one applies the dwarf stance elite skill on the rev, which reduces direct and condition damage by 50%. It triggers once the rev drops below 50%. It does not reduce condition duration, so apply some pressure with long duration conditions like bleeds.
This revenant has less condition removal and applys some defensive boons (protection and stability) frequently, try to corrupt those for free fears.

2.3 Condition Mallyx:

This revenant build has frequent resistance application through Mallx stance. Every Mallyx skill applies 2 or 2,5s of resistance, while their pain absorption applies much longer durations of resistance. Boon corruption is necessary to win this fight. The best time to use boon corruption is when they just left mallyx stance. It can be tricky to time since shiro stance is quite evasive, but a well timed boon corruption will win this matchup. Beside mallyx resistance it is the same like retribution herald. Remember mallyx herald has no condition remove, just resistance.

Remember that Shroud isn’t just a second health bar, but halves direct damage as well, so it’s very good for soaking up direct damage burst like the Rev has.

Weren’t condi necros hard counters to revenant? When did this change?

in a group fight yes, condi necros melt revs because they cannot keep up with the aoe and when they block we can still hurt them, so they cannot shake the pressure.

but in a 1v1, i feel like i don’t output enough damage to keep up with them. They can negate my bursts while dealing damage at the same time, and then my unblockable condis don’t kill them as quickly as their direct damage kills me. I think it’s the only matchup I almost always lose.

but i have to say i don’t recall receiving 7k damage from their staff#5 ever.

Actually I would say that reapers negate revs 1v1, but revs negate reapers when teamfighting.

How can that be? unrelenting assault damage is laughable when in teamfights. Rev buffs provide a good source of damage vs the other team, via corrupt boon, and your teammates can help you with the burst needed to down the rev while in a 1v1 they should be able to evade all your damaging moves.

Because they can be constantly ganking you and kiting, and you will eventually need the constant support from your ele or you will die. You beat revs 1v1 because you own the point, but they can constantly engage/disengage and slowly kill you. In a teamfight, because they dont need to hold anything, they can freely jump on you and unless u survive all his burst or someone stealth/shocking aura you (which involves someone else helping you), theres rly nothing you can do.
