How effective would a power build using full knight’s gear be in WvW roaming? Traits would just be the regular 30/10/0/0/30. I would like to be able to solo camps and at least have the capability to 1vX. Would full knight’s be good in a zerg too or is it better to mix with zerk/soldiers gear?

I’ve had pretty good success roaming with Knight’s gear necro with that same trait layout. It’s not perfect Knight’s (I have a celestial ascended amulet, Exotic Zerker backpiece, one Dire+Rabid trinket, and no Knight’s weapons) but it works nicely. Had a duel with another necro who was fully stacked with guard stacks (I spent my points on siege masteries) and very nearly won (got him downed). I think he was running Ascii’s well-o-mancer build.

Hmmm… Toss in some Vitality. It scales greatly with DS specs. In fact, I’ve been running Valkyrie+Assasin’s with great success, achieving very good sustain and damage. But it requires more awarness

I may be too late to add to your decision, but I would avoid full Knights. You really need to aim for around 600 ferocity in a power build to make those critical hits worth while— ideally hitting at least 40%+ crit rate and 40%+ crit damage, which is 190% when you add base crit damage.

I prefer 2xBerserker weapons, Berserker Helm/Gloves/Shoulder/Boots, Valk armor and legs, then Trinkets as Knights with 1 or 2 soldiers mixed in. Again, this is for WvW power build with 30/10/0/0/30.

I would consider doing that, but I would like to use the same build while zerging and I would eventually like to become a commander on my necro. I just dont know if that would give me enough survivability or is ds/plague enough?

What you could do is combine valks, cavalier, and knights to get the stats you’re looking for. Conversely, if you take… Deathly perception is it? (50% crit in ds) you can skip knights entirely. You could do something like valks armor, assassin weapons, cavalier everything else. Get some precision boosting foods and some access to fury (if you don’t have set runes, fury, out the much cheaper citadel give long lasting fury) and you’ll have close to 85% crit chance with very good ferocity and good power.

Armor might be a tad low though. Maybe you could move those 2 points from the precision line to toughness. The 1 point minor grants Toughness in ds in addition to the 100 toughness from the trait line. You’d also be able to take advantage of condi removal on entering ds.

Between those two ideas, you’d be trading ~13% crit for 449 toughness (in ds). On course, you could always drop some cavaliers (while using something like fury runes) and replace those with knights, and take a bit of each side. With fury runes and switching the cavalier weapon to knights, you could gain 6% crit and keep the same amount of toughness, with the only choice left being gaining 100 + 170 toughness or 100 precision. Those are the difference between 2523 Armor 64.8% crit, and 2793 and 60% crit (both in ds, and assuming you’re even taking deathly perception)

Maybe more than you were asking for, but I’m on a theorycrafting binge.

In your initial post you said that you wanted to roam, solo camps, contribute to a zerg, and 1vX. You need damage for that, as well as enough toughness/vitality to not hinder your world.

However, in this post you are saying that you want to command with the same build. I feel that a commander needs to over emphasize durability and I would never use the same build to solo camps and well-bomb as I would to lead a zerg.

If your goal is still to roam, solo camps, 1vX and contribute (damage?) in a zerg, then aim for:

  • 2900+ power with Sigil of Bloodlust stacks/food
  • About 40% crit chance
  • At least 40% crit damage
  • 2600+ armor
  • 22,000+ hp

I run stats similar to this and can do all of what you listed quite well. However, if your goal is to command, I would aim for:

3,300+ armor
2,500+ hp

Both builds would use totally different trait lines as well, with a command build maximizing sustain.
