Q:
GS, Scepter build?
Because the greatsword is a power weapon, scepter is condi. They don’t really complement each other
Yes, of course you can. But to be effective you need to use Sinister, Viper or Carrion gear. Or mix of them.
There’s nothing saying you cant use these two together. As stated above the two weapons conflict with each other in their damage output. Condition will be your main form of damage so you’ll be wanting to use scepter as much as possible to deal your damage.
Greatsword can be a great utility weapon. Aoe blind/cripple, a pull and 12 stack of vulnerability aren’t things to scoff at. Of course focusing on condition damage will severely reduce the damage you can apply with your Greatsword. I’d suggest utilizing Greatsword as a set up to augment your Reaper Shroud. Pull them in with Greatsword 5 into a Greatsword 4 then go into Shroud to deal your damage, while the enemy is in an aoe blind/cripple.
Personally, I’d use celestial gear with Viper weapons and condition food/crystal. Increased Greatsword damage so it doesn’t hit like a wet noddle with some added in survivability stats.

… I think you are the first person I have seen suggest celestial for anything necromancer… wow… I know that sounds sarcastic, but I assure you, I am pleased that someone is willing to explore other stat choices.

The irony being that celestial Necro was a meta build in pvp, pre HoT.
I ran celestial during HoT beta weekends and it was fun. Of course Anet effed it all up shortly after launch.
Maybe something like that. I’ve played Spite Soulreaping and Reaper "hybrid build’ for HoT maps exploration, that was fun, but not effective otherwise

I ran celestial for over a year after it came out lol

I was wondering if it was possible to make a build with greatsword in one hand and scepter in the other.. I have not seen any builds like this and I wonder why?
It is possible but not very efficient. Going hybrid means a drop in power dps without ferocity so it is not 1+1=2. It is more like 1+1=1. With hybrid you also tend to give up sustain by trying to improve both power and condition damage in traits.
I sometimes use a GS in my 2nd slot instead of the warhorn… (Scepter/Dagger being the main.)
It’s a pretty handy utility weapon for the aoe blind/dark field, and to hit an enemy with 12 stacks of vulnerability (for Decimate Defenses crit rating) if you’re not in a group with somebody who’s stacking vuln for you.
I would still keep your great sword Zerker stats though… That way when you do switch to it to spam gravedigger against things like octovine/triple trouble where you only have a small window to dps, you at least have a little ferocity going.
i don’t think that GS and scepter play very well together, at least for pvp. you are too diluted for stats, have little consistent LF generation and all of your swing timers are very high.
100% doable with a Sc/W & GS set up using MM as the main focus of the build. Best to run “your soul is mine” to help generate that extra LF from the staff loss. Only downside is the loss of condi clear. MM traited for condi removal will help but it will not contain a focus burst from 2+ condi players. But everything depends on your play mode, this build would be horrible in WvW, its mainly conquest/point holding. Gear would be Sinister/viper to get the most out of GS. This is a high skill build (IE non META) so it will take some time to get used to Trait procs + skill combos.
there was recently one of the top three trolls ever on the subforum.
I forgot the name, but it was a monkey saying for 100 posts that chill/bleed patch wasnt a nerf.
At the end it turned out he played GS+Scepter with Destroyer amu.
Dont follow those footsteps.
