Necro roaming & sPvP
(edited by C Hanson.4056)
I haven’t seen a post like this around so I thought I’d gather some necro tricks from our community. If you already know all these tricks, feel free to add some more of your own! I’ll probably organize the list later if it gets big.
I’ll keep updating as you guys post!
1. [PvE/WvW/PvP] Chaos armor:
Drop spectral wall, drop putrid mark on top. Area Chaos Armor.
2. [PvE/WvW/PvP] Lich Wells:
Use Well of Suffering/Well of Corruption, enter Lich form to make wells tick for bigger numbers.
2a. [PvE/WvW/PvP] Deathly Perception Wells:
Drop Wells of Suffering and/or Corruption then enter Death Shroud with Deathly Perception Trait (Soul Reaping XII) for more critical ticks. ((credit to amiavamp))
3. [WvW] Spectral Dive:
Jump off of any cliff, double tap Spectral Walk just before you land to negate all fall damage.
4. [WvW] Plague Signet:
Cast this when somebody chasing you cripples/chills/immobilizes you. Even when they are behind you it will still transfer condis as long as they’re in 1200 range.
5. [WvW] Chilling Darkness + Plague:
Take the Chilling Darkness trait (Curses III) and use plague form. Split the enemy zerg while spamming 2 for mass blinds/chills.
6. [WvW/PvP] WoD Stomp:
Drop Well of Darkness on a foe to negate his interrupt/CC from any teammates and secure the stomp.
7. [WvW/PvP] Plague Stomp:
Not sure if this is a bug or working as intended, but stomp then enter plague form for stability. (Kinda a waste in my opinion but necro gotta do what a necro gotta do)
8. [WvW/PvE/PvP] Blood is Vigor:
Cast Blood is Power, drop Well of Power to convert bleeding into 10 seconds of Vigor. ((Credits to amiavamp))
9. [WvW/PvE/PvP] Blind affecting condi transfers:
A. Plague Signet will MISS, causing no condi transfer.
B. Putrid Mark will HIT, transferring all of your condis, including Blind.
C. Deathly Swarm will HIT ((credits to cogbyrn))
10. [WvW/PvP] Warrior stomp:
stand behind a minion or rock dog when stomping a warrior. The minion will take the hammer for you so you can finish the stomp. ((creds dalanor))

Free blast finisher with bone minions. Summon detonate 1 minion for blast. Swap to another utility before detonating second minion.
Reflected Dark Path – Enemy is trying to escape zerg/group and/or reflects to prevent damage? No problem, just use Dark Path to pull him to you for melee punishment. After that you can either use Well of Power for a 18+ second Vigor, or transfer the bleed and chill to the victim.
In the case of an NPC or boss uses reflection in its attacks, the use of Dark Path + Spectral Grasp + Blood is Power + Well of Power without any boon duration results in nigh perma Vigor. An example is HotW (forgot which path).

If you are blinded:
Plague Signet will MISS, causing no condi transfer.
Putrid Mark will HIT, transferring all of your condis, including Blind.
Deathly Swarm will HIT, but I haven’t been able to test if it only hits when it transfers the Blind. May MISS if Blind is buried somehow.
Bone Fiend + Fire Fields:
Minions inherent the condition damage and duration of the owner. With 30 points in Spite (%30 condition duration) and a persistent fire field (staff ele), Bone Fiend can keep perma burning through its projectile attacks.
I like using critters for dark path to hop around a little faster.
You can use spectral walk and flesh wurm for a safer stomp.
I’ll come back and edit if I think of others.
For Lich Wells, you should add that Death Perception works the same way – entering Death Shroud will boost the crit chance of wells.
If you ever have a chance, try using Skull dropped by Ranger’s Pet Boar. It has no limit on fear duration, basic fear is 4.5 second, can be spreaded multiple times to accumulate the effect by Epidemic, triggers terror. If your Ranger is specced into Moment of Clarity+some condi duration, you’ll achieve 14-16 second AoE fear without a problem

I can confirm this, the 10 plus second fear will epidemic. It is pretty funny, but annoying as the skull is only a 1 in 3 drop.
updated. keep ’em coming!
any site where u can check which boon turns in to which cond and reverse?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Well_of_Power the notes list the equivalent conditions/boons
Death shroud drop: fall from any height and cast DS just before you hit the ground for DS to absorb damage and do nothing to your health bar ????
nice tips. thanks

Doesn’t work anymore. Now Death Shroud can be indeed used to.absorb a little bit more falling damage, but alone won’t save you from killing falling damage

Conditions don’t really have boon counterparts. There are more conditions than boons and the few skills that can convert them all behave differently.
For example: Chilled → Well of Power → vigor → corrupt → bleeding → Contemplation of Purity → regeneration → corrupt → poison → Elexir C → random boon…
You’ll have to look up each skill individually on wikipedia.
Another interesting way to stomp people:
Have a Flesh Wurm summoned somewhere behind you. When you down an enemy, pop spectral walk and start the stomp. Use Necrotic Traversal to get out of range of CC, and then use Spectral Recall to go back to the downed enemy, and finish the stomp.
This is a fun way to stomp people, although it does take up 2 utility slots.
Death Shroud can still be used to negate some falling damage in Fractals. If you fall down at the harpies, pop DS quickly, and you’ll be teleported back on land, but you won’t be downed. It consumes almost all of your life force though.
Stand behind your golem or rock dog to secure a stomp against warriors, so the pet will eat their #2 stun ability.
Oh, and if an enemy is up against an obstacle, do the Golem Charge straight into it, to do a truck load of damage, since the Golem is charging in place.

Now that is a nice tip…. I didn’t realize the throw hammer was a first-in-line projectile, like the thief pistol.

Are you sure that plague signet will miss due blind? For me, it seems to miss all the time unless my opponent is directly in front of me.

I tested on the Thief NPC in the sPvP lobby area. You’re welcome to test it as well.
I’ve been meaning to test whether Plague Signet works on people who are behind you, because I feel like it doesn’t. But I haven’t confirmed either way yet with an actual test.
