Recently started pvp and got to rank9. lol I know im noob but want to improve.

I always has trouble killing one. That condition spam is even faster than my necro. And often with stability covered by tons of boons that I can’t just corrupt so my fear just don’t work. I tried transfering conditions off or consuming but often get interrupted/invul-ed. Men, those rangers make me want to give up pvp. >_>

Please help this pvp noob here. Any killer move I MUST dodge? What I can just facetank? I never played ranger since BWE so I really don’t know how their skill works.

I would recommend if you have the available character slot, to make a ranger and play a little bit. Just go straight into spvp, fiddle with traits/weapons/armor combos just to get a feel of what the ranger has to work with. Pay extra attention to the cooldowns, and the animations for skills as well as how the pet works. Once you have a basic grasp of what the ranger has, you can then get back on your necro and try using what you’ve learned.

The best way to beat a class is to learn how that class works. Also, if you have a guildie or any friends that play ranger, ask them to duel with you in spvp. I’ve done that for a friend before, it really does help.

First thanks for the comment. I know it will be a good way to learn dealing with a class by playing it. But sadly I don’t have enough character slot…..I’ll definitely buy more when the next time it’s on sale and when gem is cheaper.

I can beat my ranger friend, but barely. I don’t know how he’s set up. But his downed damage is huge, maybe because of the pet. And if I don’t have a heal or at least half health bar already, I WILL be downed by the downed ranger…….after that, just can’t match the pet rez.

Anyway, I can kill him, but with great caution. And…let me put it this way, he isn’t the best ranger. So I really struggle versus those real challenge out there.

If you are a condition necro, kill his pet(s). Rangers major condi removals are Signet of Cleaning and the survival XI trait. Both send conditions to the pet. if the pet is dead though, those abilities do not work. You can even use the pet to get a condi stack going, and then epidemic it over to the ranger.. >:)

If you are power necro, burst harder.

It will be a little harder since you can’t learn by making one, but still not impossible. The advice above to use the pet to your advantage (such as epidemic) is smart, but only if you stay close enough to the ranger himself. I’m guessing since you (the OP) was talking about conditions that you are running a condition set up, scepter/dagger&staff? Consider abusing the Scepter 2 and Staff 3 (as well as DS 2, and DS 5) to keep the ranger close to you. By playing aggressively you keep an area of danger around yourself, which will make the ranger start focusing on attempting to avoid the damage. Now he’s not fighting as effectively, and is prone to making mistakes that you can capitalize on.

Whenever I face a ranger on any of my characters (even my own ranger) I immediately go face tank aggression mode. Usually the ranger is so used to being able to hide behind his pet and pew pew with his bow he won’t be expecting it, and as a necro if you just spam your conditions on top of you/him/pet you’ll mess him up.

I’m not a pro necro/ranger/player by any means, but I do play both classes very often in pvp and am always more than happy to give any advice I can.

I mostly have problems with good warriors/thieves. Even though spirit rangers are good right now, I still can out damage then and outlast them on my power necro. I just try to cleanse their conditions every so often with heal or well of power, soak damage with death shroud, and rotate cc on them when their stability is off… fear, daze, fear, root, etc.

I play a tanky well type build so maybe I just counter them.

It was already mentioned, but epidemic is by far the easiest way to kill a ranger. Nearly every ranger runs empathetic bond (pulls 3 condi from ranger to pet every 10 sec) and this is sometime their only condi removal. Like a previous post said I like to play aggressive and “in your face” to start off because you stack double the condi on the ranger and pet. Things like sigil of geomancy, marks, weakening shroud, and tainted shackles will hit them both and then after 10 seconds they will be consolidated onto the pet (and if performed correctly) leaving you to epidemic the doubled amount back to the ranger killing them both.

Now some smart rangers will see this coming and pet swap. Thankfully, when slotted right a necro can have at least decent sustain and can easily just reapply this combo killing the ranger before he has an additional swap, by no means will it be a “quick” fight if the ranger is built tanky.

Lack of active condition removal on ranger and well timed transfers allow necro to have a better than average chance at killing rangers.

Thanks a lot. The few matches yesterday I didn’t encounter many ranger so I can’t test yet. But tonight I’ll have a go against my guildie. Hope going more agressively and better transfer will give me an improved result.

I don’t carry epidemic in pvp, so I can’t exploit their pet. I find the best way to kill them is lots of aoe to kill their spirits, then let the ranger stack bleeds on me and transfer them over with dagger 4 or staff 4. Then they just melt. Dangerous though, if they have a friend and you get focussed while under a lot of conditions you’re a goner, especially if they manage to stunlock you so you can’t get your transfers off.

I’ve been in that position many times……probably due to my lack of awareness of the surrounding.

Also our transfer requires it to land to “clean”, so not only stun, a dodge can already ruin it.
