Good alts for necromancer lovers?
Thief! under boob :0_ stealth and more bewbs… (Thieves guild) xD
Ele. The D/F build on ele is a lot of fun to play. Fluid playstyle, lots of versatility, mobility and damage. And then you can also just go staff for op aoe dps. Plus its the best class in all 3 gametypes. So its a safe pick if you just want something useful.
I had the same problem of being bored of necro but moved on to other alts with different builds that i enjoy until my main necro gets some much needed love and some more build diversity…
from a wvw/pvp perspective here are the builds that i found fun coming from a necro main in no particular order so pick whatever you want or watch something on it on YT:
trap ranger,
poison master/SoTF ranger,
d/p trickery thief,
p/d trap thief,
trickery/SA d/d thief,
medi guardian(really love it),
burn medi carrion guardian

Probably doesn’t say much about anything but I really like Mesmer, Engi, and Ranger in addition to my Necro. It’s an oversimplification but I like classes that are a little weird or different, and illusions with flair, resourceful tech synergy and melee/throwing nature shaman satisfies this with me.
Concepts, not builds, I suppose.
I’m a fan of Necromancer because I like to manipulate defenses. One of the few other professions that does that well is Ranger via extremely high poison uptime and a lot of soft CC (immob, chill, cripple).
Ranger is a close second to Necro for me because I love denying people their regen and heals with constant poison and making it impossible for melee builds to stay on top of me. Ranger can’t strip or steal boons and it can’t transfer or om nom conditions but it can make tanky builds run for the hills with it’s poison, soft CC, heavy damage if power build and insane amount of bleeds + other conditions if condition build. I could be wrong but I believe Ranger can stack bleeds the fastest of any prof. I can put 25 on people in less than 2 seconds with relative ease and continue to keep 15+ on them afterwards on top of weakness, chill, burning, poison, vulnerability and occasionally immob.
Give melee trapper Ranger a shot (: It’s my favorite build hands down and is crazy fun especially when you learn how to use your evades.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
My other “main” is a trapper ranger. It has a lot of simliarities while being more single target focused. With trapper runes you get a lot of stealth so something different. Melee rangers are more “evade” based tanks so its a very different play experience from necros who most just have to take all the damage.
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
I like necros because of how I can be effective from range and have an impact on 1v1 fights as well as group fights, so I find engineer to be the next most relatable class, and warrior as well. But I always end up back with necromancer because being my main, I’m used to having a large amount of control over conditions and engineer just doesn’t match up there, and warrior is a little more melee-centric than I’d prefer.
Across all MMOs I tend to choose classes that aren’t strictly melee and arent strictly ranged, and I almost always take a debuffing sort of class as well.
I main a necromancer and I have holy hell trying to play elementalist or thief.
The Necomancer is so slow and facetanky and skillful play is like a quarterback moving within the pocket. Fast, squishy classes with the ability to dodge spam don’t come naturally to me. It is exactly different gameplay. All of my habits from playing Necomancer make me play worse.
Also Elmentalist required me to set up entirely new key binds which makes swapping back and forth with necromancer a chore.
For alts I like most of the other classes:
Warrior: healing signet means that this is the attrition beast of Guild Wars 2
Mesmer: Clone spam feels more like a GW1 necromancer than the GW2 necromancer
Guardian: Trading Death Shroud for blocks is an easy transition
Engineer: Hard to get used to but OP right now
Ranger: Low skill floor class
My second 80 was an Ele. Lots of fun to play, infinitely better when I want to actually be useful to my team.
