Greatsword Teaser
I hope not
I just do not think a GS fits with Necromancer lore wise and aesthetically
That animation was nothing special I would hope if they ever do implement GS for Necro it would be better than that
The third AA attack (the whirl) applies chill. The whirl itself is also interesingly animated, and there’s a green glow on swinging.
I’m almost sure this is a new weapon coming for necromancers.
About the animation being “nothing special”, I’d say it’s slightly more elaborated than guardian’s and warrior’s (not sure about ranger’s). Sure, mesmers have a very unique AA with greatsword, but they’re rather the exception than the rule.
I dig it. Could call me slightly hyped.
Oh kitten , I tought I was the only one that saw the updated autoattack, 2 weeks ago I remember it was only a single slash that she did.
Necromancers with swords? I’m fine with that.

I talked today about this with a friends. Somebody mentioned that other NPC’s also get access to weapons outside of their professions. Examples they had were Trahearne and Rytlock Brimstone.
Here is my comparison of those 3 NPC and their GS moves:
Uses sword & pistol. Skills he uses are warrior sword 1, 2, 3 and thief pistol 4 and “pistol whip”. None of those skills have a new animation or are new skills.
Uses Caladbolg the magical sword. All sylvari get access to this weapon in story quest. Skill animations are I think all borrowed (I found this youtube video made by somebody else where he/she shows those skills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0s1O7w995k). All skill effects are slightly different though.
Attacks use new animation (green smoke and spin on 3th attack) and they seem to be a new skill (chill on 3th attack).
I think that if this skill was to be used by one NPC, devs wouldn’t have made this new effect and new animation just for her. Instead they could have just used a borrowed animation.
When do I think we get the new weapon for professions then? Most likely not in a long time. They wouldn’t just give a weapon for one profession at one time and the update would be huge. It would be announced at least 1 month in advance and before release there would be many previews ect. I think it would be released in a feature pack like April&September feature packs. So maybe like next April… To be honest I have no idea.
I’m totally gonna love this autoattack chain with blind on chill trait!!! O_O

It’s chill on blind, not blind on chill, unfortunately.
I really can appreciate that people are hopeful for the new weapons, but this type of thing will be datamined before its released, so it’s a long way off, if its coming at all.

Lol I’m stupid _ ^ _
I wouldn’t really be getting your hopes up.
All I have to say is

Can you explain a bit? I don’t see how torment has anything to do with this..
Hints that Necromancer will get something new and shiny tend to mean other professions will get the same so try not to get overly excited. A lot of people like me thought Torment would be unique to Necromancer as another way to help restrict enemy mobility but War, Mes, and Thief got it, too, followed by everyone with rune and sigil recipes.
To be fair, ANet was explicit all along that Torment would not be Necro specific. Necros still have the only AoE Torment skill, but that’s also all the Torment the profession has, which is stupid.
Id like to see this as a hint for new weapons soon. And that necros new weapon will be GS. But unfortunately im just not that optimistic anymore.
New weapons would obviously be great, but I think Hammer would be a much cooler choice for Necro
It’s possible that new weapons for necro might have torment-inflicting skills.
I’d rather have a block and a leap/teleport xD like block and counter with weakness or blind. And not a single block, but continous blocking until in melee range for counterattack.
Instead of a leap or teleport id really like a pull. Necros are designed around a pretty continuous movement speed but we have ALOT of tools to make our RELATIVE movement speed go through the roof. (Large access to immobilize cripple and chill).
A pull would be a good way to maintain that process in a big “I couldn’t care less how fast you are now get over here so I can ram this greatsword into your chest cavity” kind of way.
If it was a tether mechanic that would be even better as one of the things I hope to make if we do get a greatsword is a NEW front line necro build for wvw. (like the polar opposite of a guardian). If im hitting someone in a zerg and he starts to run away to the safety of his blob I can already see me using a tether type ability to say “lol nope” and end the guy. Also a three cleave melee weapon would actually be decent for high power life steal builds. (return of the point blank vampiric wells?)
All in all though just interested in seeing what builds we could come up with for such a weapon.

Necromancer Munne, ftw.
Can anybody find other ingame examples of NPC using a weapon that doesn’t belong to their profession? So far I only know Trehearne and Rytlock. As long as Marjory is the only NPC with unique weapon animation and effect I will keep my hope on new weapon skills up.

Yes. On the giant statue fractal, the legendary at the bottom has a hammer, and it looks AWESOME! He has a three attack chain with the final attack dropping a well. He also has some pretty cool skills focused around wells. I don’t really remember all of the skills because it’s been a while since I did that fractal, but it looks awesome, if someone could link a video that would be sweet. It is literally the first boss you fight.
I’m waiting for Necromancer with swords, but….
Not Greatswords. Come on, don’t turn it into some kind of manga.
As for the animations, it seems like first full cleave for Necro, maybe.

Gotta say id still like the greatsword >.<. The flow of greatsword weapons in this game are usually pretty smooth. I tend to dislike the clunkier setups of hammers. But atm I just want a really big melee weapon to smash someones face in before switching into deathshroud and giggling at there counterattack. It just seems like such a fun idea to me.
now that i’m thinking about it, i don’t want this marjory using greatsword to be a necro thing. i want whatever marjory is to be an entirely new class, one that perhaps has a better future and present than necromancer.
call it shadow knight, deathbringer, count sockula, or the whirling potato, i’m sure it’ll work better than necromancer across the board.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.

I searched youtube for cliffside fractals video. This is a video of some people clearing the entire fractal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0xFDBoR98w
In the beginning of the video they engage the legendary hammer dude. Video is good quality, but it is still difficult to see what attacks the boss exactly has, but it does give you pretty good idea what he has.
Legendary Archdiviner attacks:
- Basic hammer swing
- Warrior hammerstun
- Warrior hammer spin (skill #4) that relases deadshroud bolts or something.
- Channel attack where he holds the hammer and summons wells.
- Something like warrior hammer skill #5
I don’t see the three attack chain, but it might be because these dudes in the video don’t let him attack them too much. The animations he uses are borrowed mostly from warrior and maybe edited a bit. I don’t think he has such an unique attack as Marjory’s spinning chill attack of freezing death.
Good catch and call coinhead ; )
As far as I know Marjory didn’t get any new attacks in Seeds of Truth or Point of No Return. None of the trailers showed her using GS either. So the autoattack chain still remains the only teaser of greatsword skills in action revealed.
Good catch and call coinhead ; )
TY. Sometimes speculations miss and sometimes they hit the nail, this was one of those times it was a great success!
