So apperently, while sitting in LA today, someone linked. “Grenth’s Hood Skin” into game My jaw instantly dropped and the wardrobe click made it drop further.
Yep gonna be wintersday reward. Cant wait.
Hope it looks good on asura.
So many people will be running around with it on.
That looks exactly like a piece of armor from wow. Like exactly
Will it be a reward? Or will it be 400 gems?

Actually no, its the original Grenth hoodie way before Putress got his blighted hands on it.
^ Yeah Andele is right. The game art for Guild Wars 1 had Grenth looking like this years before wow introduced it.
I can’t completely blame blizzard though – the guild wars art is just amazing.
I can’t wait for this. Grenth has always had a truly epic appearance, and this is something I certainly desire.
Are you going to support 400 gem Helms if this happens to be the case? 400 for 1 armor piece?
Are you going to support 400 gem Helms if this happens to be the case? 400 for 1 armor piece?
Hey, they need to make cash, they gave us a one time payment game and we can all play for free… I’m completely fine feeding them a few bucks for a cosmetic. Hell we can even earn the gems through gold, all be it the inflation is high, but it’s still doable.

If its an awesome hood and worth it, yeah I’ll pay the gems for this optional, cosmetic piece of armor. All fine by me.
That hood is amazing. I also thought of the WoW t5 helm when I saw it lol, I didn’t know that WoW copied it from Grenth, that is kind of kittenty.
So you can get a full set of armor for 800 gems, or 1 piece for 400 gems. Seems about right.
Why not make a full set of grenth armor for 800 gems? Or if that is too time consuming why not charge a proper ala carte price for 1 piece. 50% of the cost of an entire set is generally not how ala carte anything works.
Not telling anyone not to buy this for the record. I know they will sell tons of these.
I. Need. This. NOW!!
I just hope the cloth + eyes can be dyed.

Dude that one piece is the best worth 400 gem thing if it will be a gem purchase, hell id dish out 1600 gems for a full set (or just gloves chest boots hood if chest is the same type as mad king and cof).
I just hope the cloth + eyes can be dyed.
Just cloth.

Generally single armor pieces give you one of every type. So for 400 gems, you’d get Grenth’s Hood for Light, Medium, and Heavy armor types, whereas 800 gems would have bought you exactly twice as many pieces, but in one set.

Hmm……maybe I can still make it work with my ice wraith look….one of the skulls on my set does have green eyes.
And it still looks crap on a charr. Time to reroll to human necro …

Is this how the Toxic Gloves and Shoulders currently work in PVE?
I don’t know about pve but it does in pvp.
I don’t know about pve but it does in pvp.
Does what?
If you convert non-armor specific skins to pvp you get 1 of each, medium light and heavy. But I don’t think it works that way in pve. Its 1 use only I believe.

It isn’t separated by PvE and PvP. You buy the item from the Gem store, you get a general item in the mail. Once you “open” that item, it’ll give you three skins, one for light, medium, and heavy each. Those skins act just like others do, you double click them, and then you can either apply the looks onto a PvE piece of armor, or convert to PvP use.
And it is how the Toxic Gloves/Shoulders work yes. For 400 gems you get three copies of the skin, one light, one medium, one heavy, each skin can individually be used for either PvE/WvW or sPvP.
Oh, it’s not like that for meta achievements is it? Meta achievements will give 1 of each for pvp too.
Oh, it’s not like that for meta achievements is it? Meta achievements will give 1 of each for pvp too.
To my knowledge meta achievements just give you one skin, and you have to pick for PvE or PvP. I can’t say that for certain though, since I have completed literally no meta achievements ever.
That is correct meta achievements give you 1 skin and you have to choose (for some reason) PVE or SPVP. If you chose sPVP then you get all three type.
It’s slight comforting to know that these 400 gem item give you 1 of each. I still think it’s much better to have these things added to the achievements tab armor so I can reuse it as many times as I like for sPVP and PVE alike. I still think paying 50% for 1 piece of armor (or 3 pieces of different armor classes) isn’t worth it. But to each their own.
I guess you could view it as. “I get 3 helms of different armor classes and so that’s 1/2 an armor set of 6 pieces.”
yey more pay to wear stuff that actually kinda should be obtainable ingame trough basic progression..
(happy camper)
I think people overcomplain about Gemstore stuff… It’s essentially just vendor stuff you can buy, which isn’t that big of a deal to me. The game does need gold sinks too. Convert gold to gems and buy it, you don’t even have to spend money. That’s what a LOT of people do.
I’d instantly roll a necro for a full Grenth set even if it’s modified a little here and there and pay for it. I’ve alway thought that the Gods inspired armor sets with the right design choices would be a great hit to the gem store. I’ll get this hood definitely(and roll a necro, he just have to wait a little)
Game has tons of gold sinks, not to mention constant nerfing of reliable farming methods.

It is not remotely hard to make money in this game. Even my lazy kitten gets plenty of gold without even knowing the newest, greatest farming method.
There are people in my guild with so much money that they just randomly decide they’re going to make their 10th legendary, for funsies.
“It is not remotely hard to make money in this game.”
Must have been playing wrong for more than a year I guess.
Without grinding dungeons / champ farming / Orr Event farming how do you make money?
TP flipping?
I don’t think the general populace is nearly as rich as you think they are. Simply playing the game and gearing out leaves you generally broke until you do the methods above. By broke I am talking about Sub 50g.
I realize that’s not “broke” but it leaves you in a spot where it’s tough to buy or obtain some of the better looking items in the game, or get crafting to 500, etc.
None of those things are hard. You don’t need to “grind” dungeons, doing all of the easier dungeon paths is an evenings worth of “work” and grants you plenty of gold. Even if you’re slow, you can get in two paths per hour, and each path with AWFUL drops will net you 2g. Even a casual gamer can easily get 10g per day, without much work or farming involved. If you get decent drops, that amount easily starts going up a ton, depending on how well the salvaging goes.
And if you are patient, especially if you’ve been playing the game for a longer amount of time (not time in game but how old your account is) it just gets easier. Wait for a new patch, check out what is going to be added. Any skins that are added and are non-permanent additions will almost guaranteed go up in price. I’ve got over 1000g, at current prices (which will only go up) of things just by buying rare, limited time items while they were cheap, and then sitting on them for as long as I want.
Looks good as kitten. The whole Grenth set looks amazing if you look at concept art.
Most of the armour ingame doesn’t look near this good, just a few.
Anyone know if the back drape on the hood interferes with back piece skins? Also, can anyone confirm the hood can be dyed?

fixed that for you
Sadly – you can’t dye it in some deep black color. It looks blue in midnight ice and dark-gray in abyss.

resource run with 4 alts (~1h) – 15g/day
Resource runs are boring. PvE is boring. That’s work. Why the hell do I want to work in a video game? I work 50 hours a week in the real world. So I can come home and work another 20 hours in a video game?
No. Sorry. Most people who are broke, like myself, are broke specifically because we play the game for enjoyment, not to make gold. And by enjoyment, I mean wvw/spvp. I recently got a attraction to CoE armor for my necro. One CoE run and I’m 5+ gold richer. I’d have to wvw for hours to get 5 gold. For a entire day if I roam or do havok groups, or scout or play defense for my team rather then follow the karma train.
The only way I could afford getting my commander tag is by buying gems and converting to gold. I’ve never had more then 50g on me that I made myself. nevermind I love gearing and trying out new builds and splurging on alts and buying dyes and reskinning armor over and over…all of that and a limited income source too…
It’s too bad the most enjoyable parts of this game are also the least rewarding.
What I found amusing is any armour class can use it (the helmt at least, I assume the whole set).
Warriors dressed like that.. lol

It’s mmorpg, it’s impossible without grind. If you want pure gameplay – play action FPS. Even singleplayer RPG’s have sort of grind.
I don’t understand your logic templar. You are saying that because mmo’s have always been boring and grindy, this one should be too? Why is it that the most enjoyable game modes are the least rewarding? Why is everything based on daily play, when many people can’t play every day? It’s not like I’m asking for things for free. I’ve put just as many hours into this game as others, but have way less to show for it. I just don’t think thats right.

Not boring for me.

have you tried midnight fire. gives me the darkest black i can get on some armors. others kittenty red tint. i use it just for the pieces that it gets that effect and it works great.

My opinion :
• You want your own commander thag
• you think grenth hood is bad because you need to get gems for it ?
→ If you really really really want something in game, just go for a little farming until you can afford all what you need to continue your favourite activity..
I wanted that grenth hood so bad, so I started farming for a little to get 600 gems (didn’t know what it’s price was gonna be so I played safe) and after I had that I could do my favourite activity again , I think everyone has to do the ‘boring’ part of a game once in their career, but it doesn’t mean if you dislike it, everyone does.. Just accept that a game has more facilities then only 1 thing, and if you have to join another activity for money gain then you’ll just have to do it :o

if grind is innately boring then explain mmo’s being popular in the first place. That’s because grind isn’t boring unless its made too easy or too hard. Too easy and it feels like all the rewards you got mean nothing. To hard and you spend to much time waiting. Its not that hard to get the rewards from dailys/monthlys with out daily play. Do a daily every other day (14 hours) and grab a monthly (takes like 2 hours tops) and you’ve netted yourself the most expensive ascended trinket you can get. 16 hours isn’t bad for highest end game gear possible that isn’t even remotely required to be successful. If you needed it maybe that 16 hours would seem ludicrous but since its not you can’t expect them to make this game something you can complete in its entirety a day because you work a lot at the expense of a bunch of other people who work 50+ a week, have social lives, other hobbies, and still manage to find the time to play and still feel the game is just bordering on too easy.
This is my current look, I just hope I can get my hands on a Deathly Mantle, but sadly none are on the TP. Otherwise I’m still happy with the exalted mantle as a substitute.
