Hacking? How does this happen?
The necro staff auto-attack has a range of 1400. The tooltip says 1200 but it goes out further.
It’s much farther away than 1400 though. I was more curious if there was some minion that you could get to attack at a long long range
It’s around 1400 as Distaste and should be kept that way while the projectile speed should be increased, which is where I don’t see the point of your complaint since as it is even a Dolyak could easily dodge them.
P.S. Erroneous tooltips always an indication of the state of neglect for any class in any MMO.
If you’re certain the necro is far outside of 1400 and especially if he is hitting you with things other than auto-attack(Necrotic Grasp) then report them. I do remember their being videos of hackers in WvW killing siege equipment a few months back where they could attack things at long distances well outside normal range, melee skills or otherwise. I’ve also personally seen a bot/hacker melee attacking a mob from 1200+ away.
Besides the high range in staff a Necromancer has 2 ranged attack minions, one that can move and another that’s static, from your screenshot I can see one enemy beast.
The static minion is the Flesh Worm, it has 1200 attack range and can be summoned around 1200 range, so a necro could use it to attack 2400 range away, the minion would not move though and can be killed.
Minions have a pretty big leash range and one of them could be approaching you and starting to attack, so it might’ve been that, in this case it’d be the Bone Fiend and you’d be getting hit by 2 quick hits with a long time between another 2 hits.
Besides these 3 options I really have no idea what else it could be.

Could you elaborate a bit on what we’re seeing in that picture? Like, where is the necro: close to the enemy beast?
I see you have fear on you there: the only way I can see that coming from a necro that is that far out of range is if you just stepped into a Reaper’s Mark?

there are runes that have chance to fear on crit
4 bleeds and fear; that looks like terror damage on the screenshot; what feared you? and did they start running back as soon as you were feared?
edit
106 bleed per sec = 1270 ((106-42.5)/0.05) condition damage
2+360+423 = 785 terror damage per sec
(according to formulas on wiki – so ignore me ^^;)

It looks to me like they stepped on a pair of marks. A crit Mark of Blood (with Barbed Precision) and a Reaper’s Mark would put up that screenshot.
I’d agree with the marks here. Especially with the effects coming from the ground and both fears and bleeds. Certainly more useful in this situation though if you hadnt blocked the chat window and SS it with the combat log active.
Most likely he was placing marks on the ground and making you chase him into them cause they only have a range when placing them no range limit on the damage once their triggered.
I apologize for the chat thing, I forgot about the combat log. That actually would have made this a whole lot easier….
The necro is right next to the minion. I really don’t think it was marks because I didn’t see a red circle and the necro was running back and forth to the castle, not coming past the bridge. Oh well, I know what to do next time this happens (look at the kitten combat log).
Thanks for the assistance!
aaaaand you do know you can also get smacked by golems in a box which have 1600 range?
I know some hackers, so far what they can do is clip speed hack, skyfall jumping (getting over walls), fall through ground, and anti-stun clipping.
It’s around 1400 as Distaste and should be kept that way while the projectile speed should be increased, which is where I don’t see the point of your complaint since as it is even a Dolyak could easily dodge them.

Actually the tooltips are correct, auto attack will not trigger beyond the stated range. You have to spam the button beyond that and at that point the physics engine takes over. Higher the elevation, the farther the projectile will go.
Are you using a potato as a graphics card?
