Q:
Hello!
I need a little help and who better to help than the people of the forums!
I’m making a Necromancer, and I can’t decide which race to go!
I’ve created a list based on how much I want to play them.
Here’s the list in order of the ones I want to make it most to the ones I want to make least.
Asura – Joined 1 – Reason- Their height and I’ve heard good stuff about them.
Norn – Joined 1 – Reason- Their height and their racials.
Sylvari – Joined 2 – Reason- Their racials
Human – Joined 2 – Reason- Their Look
Charr – 3 – Reason- Don’t really like them. Sorry
So it’s really between Asura and Norn at the moment for me.
If you can give me some good facts and opinions to help me with my decision I’d be grateful
Thanks!
P.S.
Is the height of a Norn a big deal? Does it effect a lot of stuff? (As in, being as tall as possible)

Asura’s have some pretty good racials too.
Norn racial skills however are a bit lacking imo. The only one semi-useful is the snow leopard form so that you can stealth. Unless you just like turning into a were-beast for the asethetics, plus being a werewolf is cool, which is the only reason I’d use a Norn.
I actually chose the Charr because I wanted a monstery looking toon, and the skull face is just awesome on one!
Depends on what type of environment you prefer. I play mostly WvW and I chose a Norn specifically for the Snow Leopard racial. I use it when roaming solo. Necro’s biggest weakness is a lack of escape and mobility. With “auto target” OFF, you can stealth for 5s, jump for 300, sprint for 1500…. and you are gone. You can get 2-3 stealth uses during the duration and couple of the sprint and jumps.
That combo is also great for getting into a Keep\Tower that is under seige – as you can stealth up from far enough away and then sprint\leap, double dodge roll into the door.
I never use it when in a group or a zerg, but you can escape from groups and zergs when solo
Plus, Norns jus have cool passive animations on the males.

Yeah, but I bet my Charr looks scarier than yours :p
Tactical advantage go’s to Asura imo. The small model makes you almost invisible in most large fights. I find being a norn is similar to going into Lich, its just a huge target. Right now Necros are a key target in WvW for obvious reasons.
Looks: Sylvari/Charr always looked cool to me but i also Like Asuras look as they are the only class I normally play so they grew on me.
Racials: Probably Norn as Dunehammer pointed out. For most other classes the Necro skills are probably going to be better and more useful.
I have a lvl 80 asura necro and a level 30 norn engineer (I wanted to try out snow leopard for myself). My impression:
Snow leopard OWNS. 3 uses of stealth followed by a long sprint in stealth every time, 50% stealth uptime. On a class that has hardly any combat mobility and no way to stealth. If you wanna minmax for WvW it’s norn. Size doesn’t matter; you have the necro class icon, you WILL be found and humped.
Still I’m happy with asura, best animations, best sound effects, fits the overall necro theme. If I could stand the overall feel of norn I would probably reroll.
//edit: Effects of being norn: You will hate jumping puzzles, you will love the angle at which you can aim ground targeted spells.

The necro masks look great on Sylvari, Asura and Charr, if that helps.
I went human for this. Human seems to work well with the witch or warlock type theme.
