I think the axe should get a skill like Thunderclap and the Unholy Fervor should work similar to this Imagined Burden. I think the axe could get better lifeforce generation too.

I would changed the skill and traits slightly so they have their own necromancer feel.

Unholy feast cast 3/4 recharge 12
Damage (half of thunderclap)
Fear: 1 second
pulses: 3
interval: 1 seconds
radius: 240
Combo field: ice (if we need the combo field)
range: 900
*Inflicts fear and damage on the initial hit followed by 2 damage pulses unlike thunderclap

The reason axe is more damage focus while the hammer was a defensive focused weapon

Rending Claws
remove vulnerability
add Lifeforce gain

Unholy Fervor
Whenever you hit with rending claws, you apply vulnerability. All of your other axe skills inflict chill. Reduces recharge time of axe skills
vulnerability: 7 seconds
chill: 1 second
Recharge Reduced: 20%

overall I think the current state of the axe has better range presure than the staff but lacks heavily in areas beside dealing damage.

Well i like the current unholy feast as a skill but i dont think axe is the right weapon for it so i wouldnt be too sad about a change like yours.

For your unholy frevor change i think you mean recharge of axe (not greatsword) skills.

I kinda like the axe we got aside from a few things.

The dmg while decent could be buffed slightly because as the only real ranged power weapon it doesn’t do that great. Even if it doesn’t have a projectile. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of the vuln for added dmg but we would lose a bit of flavour.

Adding straight up dmg on a weapontrait is boring/bad as you kitten yourself by not taking it. I’m all for traits giving utility that might boost dmg like reduced cooldowns or interesting effects. Like might on skill, lifesteal or something but straight up 10% dmg is boring and bad. And yes you must have vuln on the target but you will always have that so the vuln requirement is never a factor unless you open with skill 2.

The most important one. Please for the love of Grenth get rid of the fly swatter animation.

Axe is pretty decent as a 900 range power weapon and it generates enough life force for me but I do like the idea of somehow adding a field for combinations. Lightning would be my pick.

If they increased unholy feast damage by a lot it would remove one issue i have with the axe but I don’t like the way unholy feast works with axe

In honesty.. as a fav power reaper.. axe is naf.. the damage is just soo weak and the secondaries do soo little.

The whole weapon needs a rework imho… make it melee.. make it longer range… projectiles ..who knows..

I’ve tried Axe so many times, the only place I could get Axe to work was in WvW ZvZ. I suppose Axe could work in PvE but I don’t do enough PvE to comment on that.

Problems I have with Axe is that the auto is just so weak, and it doesn’t cleave. I mean how do you not cleave in 2016. Axe 2 “seems” good but it really isn’t, the channel can be broken & evaded easily. And Axe 3 is nothing but a gimmick that does zero impact during a fight.

At least with Dagger I know dagger auto hurts, and it cleaves. Dagger 2 siphons health when you’re hurting for secondary heal. And Dagger 3 is a light impact skill, a well timed immob with warhorn 4 daze often sets you up for a good finishing move. Dagger 3 even corrupts 2 boons which is icing on the cake.

There’s just no comparison, Axe is too weak and gimmicky. Using my example above, say you put on a good daze to interrupt a heal with warhorn, but you’re using Axe at the time. The best you could do is start the Axe 2 channel, which even if dazed, someone could move and dodge out of that. With the Dagger, that’s not possible.
