I use my Greatsword, Eternity to tell when it’s night time so I can eat my Roasted Artichokes/Ghost Pepper Poppers at the right time.

Then I switch to a real weapon.

It is not speculation. It is looking at the numbers. And i dont see how you can get, with such a low number of bleeds (and the lack of other damage conditions), condition damage that comes even close to to the numbers scepter or even staff can produce.

Yes, Necromancer had such a huge handicap in PvE before Reaper that it still boggles my mind how any of us stuck it out.

The one time I felt useful back then was when they first changed traitlines into specialisations. Well of Darkness was viable for stacking blind, chill and vuln via chilling darkness (no icd) and bitter chill. We had Vampiric Presence which seemed big at the time as we weren’t used to having party support. All wells triggered both Vampiric and Vampiric Presence, as well as Vampiric Rituals, before they fixed it as a “bug”. Good times.

I use it in wvw on my necro power build all the time. 30k GD hits are no joke.

It’s the most condition heavy build there is. Accompany that, if you run a hybrid amulet, very good power damage. Log in and join that server on any given night.

Mostly due to laziness, I seldom swap my build. Raid, Fractals, dungeons, you name it I have Greatsword. I just enjoy it, and it works

I use it on my condi necro mostly on Fotm. Mostly for utility.

I found that 5AoE pull , 4blind field and 3vulnerability burst pretty useful when my group lacking of it. Use 3 on group of enemies and epidemic give instant 25 vul.

How to use reaper greatsword in any game mode: Don’t use great sword.

I have been running various core Necromancer builds I’m PvE while I very slowly grind HoT toward a legendary.

To me, the most important things about Reaper are Shroud and shroud traits, particularly Augury, Chilling Victory, Decimate Defenses, Blighter’s Boon, and sometimes Reaper’s Onslaught.

Greatsword’s advantages are in skills 2-5. Its auto attack is too slow. Chill is supposed to improve defense and provide a hybrid build option but both seem uncompetitive. I would rather have the AA sequence run twice as fast with weaker hits for the same dps.

With Deathly Chill as it is, hybrid builds with greatsword are bad.

Does anyone know if the chill traits work with any chill source or if they only proc’ with greatsword? I will look into this over the weekend.

Irrelevant. Equip other weapons that have actual condi synergy, watch your damage output go up somewhere around 5-10 times vs all of that put together, scratch your head, take waypoint to LA, try out a couple GS skins, put them in your bank or inventory to look at.

Thats about the extent of it.

I was just answering his question. I agree GS is totally unviable.

Thanks for the responses. I intended to try dagger-focus with Sigil of Ice and see if I can get enough bleeds off of it to make what is normally a power weapon into a passable hybrid.

My hopes are low, though. The nerf to Deathly Chill was too much to allow a hybrid to compete with a full power or condi build using greatsword. Sigil of Ice and Deathly Chill need to beat sigils pairs like Lightning / Force and then Blighter’s Boon because the Reaper trait line is so power oriented.

The math for the Sigil of Ice on dagger not being worse than Greatsword looks impossible and probably is. I would like to find some bizarre corner condition where Deathly Chill is useful but do not really think one exists.

I am often wrong, though. Especially after Oktoberfest.
