I created a thread recently asking for tips when I got my Necromancer to lv80.

Now after playing it for 2~ days I realized some things about me:

• I want to play in every role possible, that is why I’m so indecisive about builds. In other words,I want Blood Magic for support, but I also want Soul Reaping because I want to be in Reaper form most of the time, since this build is melee oriented

• My problem is that I don’t expect people to bring anything good to fights in PvE and WvW. Example: I feel forced to bring boon removal or group condition removal (Like the wells) because I think people are selfish and will not have it,but most of the time they have.

• While my Shouts are traited,I just can’t use all shouts in utitilies slot,I feel like the build looks really bland if I do that,so I feel forced to get an utility that is untraited (example: Wells)

• Is that normal that my build don’t have any AoE boon?

• Ive heard that Spite is the to-go trait for pure damage, but I feel that the traitline sucks.

• I just can’t play without the 25% bonus movement speed, but I also don’t feel like sacrificing a slot for that signet.

For WvW,how would you change this build?

Btw,I’m full berserker.

PS: I don’t feel like using any other weapons other than GS,Dagger/Warhorn and maybe Staff.

I hate the Axe and Focus gameplay x(

Thanks in advance!

  1. So you say its an MM build, and also mention wanting to do everything. The problem is it isn’t really worth wasting all that Death Magic traiting on minions… unless you are actually running minions. You have 2 minion skills though, it isn’t nearly enough to warrant the traiting you’re giving them, especially in PvE where those traits are mediocre. In WvW/PvP you’d definitely want to have an actual MM build, or not trait the minions much.
  2. You have to rely on allies somewhat. You can’t make a good build that actually does everything, all you’ll end up with is a build that does a whole lot of nothing.
  3. I really don’t get the idea that focusing on one thing is bland, but whatever works for you.
  4. Yes, welcome to necro.
  5. Spite is one of the best traitlines in the game.
  6. Try Warhorn, Quickening Thirst+dagger, or Traveler’s runes if you gotta go fast
  7. For WvW you’d need to chose an actual specialization. Generalist builds are a great way to suck at everything equally well, not a way to actually have a good build. Be a shout build, or a minion build, or a whatever else build (doesn’t have to utility type), but specialize.

Honestly though, it seems like you have a lot of strong opinions that are going to limit your build. You either need to accept that those will lead to a weaker build (which is fine if you are enjoying it), or get past them.

I want to point out the fact that you say you are in berserk and yet you take both Death perception and Decimate defense. This is a waste of your precious traits since only one would be needed to hard cap your crit chance.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Since you mentioned blood magic, here is a variant that is similar to what I ran for a while.

When you’re alone, take banshee’s wail. When you’re in groups, take vampiric presence.
Simply equipping only rise and bone minions means that you’re getting enough minions pumping out to satisfy flesh of the master without worrying about cluttering your skill bar or relying too much on AI. If you’re fighting a boss that relies heavily on breaking the break bar, feel free to switch chilled to the bone with flesh golem.
With reaper shroud, I feel that soul reaping, death perception, and vital persistence aren’t as important. Plus, if you’re full berserker and running both death perception and decimate defenses, you’re wasting precision.

Like I said, I’ve ran a similar build before (axe instead of dagger just for the range) and it is very satisfying in open world PvE. Run into a huge group of enemies, pick off most of them, and then let your giant army of rats trap the last enemy in a corner!
