How many are level 80? and why do you keep playing?
I think in PvE the game really changed for me once I started getting the gear to kill things in a reasonable amount of time. I’ve also been doing a lot of dungeons lately, which has been pretty enjoyable.
If you’re here about pvp, or trying to compare our capabilities to another profession, it just might be.
I am sorry to tell you but no amount of anything in this world will keep Twilight from sucking.
I continue to play because WvW is fun, s/tPvP is fun(although it requires a large amount of skill for me to succeed, this skill will pay off in spades when they fix all our bugs / balance us to a viable state), and … well, PvE is pretty bad, but maybe once a week I go farm in Orr for an hour or so. I also do a dungeon or two a week for funsies.
That being said, I do have alts. I spend about 30 hours playing necromancer for every 1 hour I spend on one of my alts.

I am sorry to tell you but no amount of anything in this world will keep Twilight from sucking.
Twilight is indeed terrible, that is why i dont want necro to end up like it.
I wanna see what everything looks like once I get my gear all good, instead of just assorted ‘what I can find’.
Plus I like how tough I am The well/toughness build is actually what I wanted from the getgo.
My Necro hit 80 within the first week I still play it because I love it. There was a couple rough parts where the battle was hard but I spent most of the trek from 40 -74 with “It’s not so bad these mobs are only 5 levels above me” as my motto
when I hit 70 and started through Orr I found it getting more and more difficult until I decided that the area itself needed more balancing so I went to LA and took my jewelcrafting from 30 to 340 and that leveled me all the way to 80 then I was able to go back to orr and run smoothly through and now have very few problems in the level 80 zones.
my biggest problem with my necro is this forum full of people who seem to love to kitten and moan more than anything. I meankittenpeople just once I’d like to see this forum have threads of people sharing the things they liked instead of just carrying on and on and on about kitten they think the game owes them.
I’m lv80. I play on and off!
Mostly WvW.
Why?
Because it’s fun, of course!
I play my necro cause I want to love this profession. And if I would continue to play my twinks, I would start to hate it.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)
I’m Lv80 and still play it, though looking at all the bugs it does feel very disheartening. I enjoy it and will continue to play it even with all the crap it has, of course I do expect it to get some fixes eventually; it’s in dire need of them.
It’s fun. And I can do pretty good job defending choke points and towers/keeps in WvWvW.
Hit lvl 80 about 3 1/2 weeks of game play… have not finish the story mode yet. Busy doing crafting. Dungeons haven’t gone through all of them. Instead of buying the craft mats, i usually hunt them. Have not finished exploring the map. Never been to WvW hmmm maybe once, just to check it out. I don’t have legendary items yet… Have not crafted the 20 slot bag, still saving the gold for the craft item. And other stuffs… And I only play 2-4 hrs on weekdays and 32 hrs on weekends…

Plague, epidemic, spectral walk and staff make WvW incredibly fun. Plague can literally turn the tide of battle, epidemic is for applying an insane amount of pressure and the staff is just awesome for pushing the enemy lines back.
Spectral walk makes me feel like braveheart. Run like a madman into the zerg, lay down every AOE you got into the heart of the enemy and then teleport to the safety of your lines.
I continue to play my level 80 necromancer for few reasons:
1. I am an optimist, ant think that 100+ bugs will be fixed soon
2. I only play this game spvp, so for 8×8 I use my warrior or thief just to lol, but on tournaments I use my necromancer, since he is not a common choice and enemies simply do not have any idea what I am doing.
3. I like to play the least common class in every mmorpg, and now I am an axe/warhorn+staff necro, that is also quite rare character (actually have not seen any other one that uses this setup).
I keep playing because I love this game and I love this class.
Looking epic with Flame legion mask and god karma gear!
Seriously why does it kittenize “Bada2s”?

Been 80 for about a week. Keep playing because I’d like to level up my crafting and become a money making machine, the game is also fun and enjoyable with other proffessions. I’ve almost got 100% world completion, just need a few WvW maps. I also enjoy the sPvP though if I want to get some glory I usually switch the class I’m playing with because as a condition necro I’m very dependant on other classes to take advantage of the conditions I put on the enemy team.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
Im level 80 necro, fully condi/toughness/prec gear, around 1400 condi damage and 1800 toughness etc. Got bored of the PvE fast only doing CoF and arah explorable, i leveled all the way in WvW so i thought i’d try it at 80 with gear.
The toughness doesnt seem to help much, your hp still drops like its nothing, the only thing we have going for us is bleeds + epidemic, but even that doesnt do much unless you get a stack of 15+ bleeds and a poison/chill. Tried every spec in spvp, all feel useless when your going around hitting under 1.3~k with feast of corruption and everything else hits 300-500s. Deathshroud is useless other than taking extra damage/ 1s fear olol.
Rerolled a mesmer yesterday after being disappointed with the necro, and wow, its like a whole new level. Was playing a defensive phantasm sword/pistol, staff build and was destroying everything. Had 27k hp, did 5x more damage my necro could do, had clones and illusions everywhere that spam 2-3k attack abilities, can actually buff the team with the staff + time warp, can kill thiefs easily without having to use everything and still barely win to a heartseeker spammer. Even if its like 3v1 you can get away with dropping clones, going into stealth and blinking away.
So yeah, im joining the dark side. Mesmer is 10x better than necro, and has MORE then 1 viable spec. Can you believe it, more then 1 viable spec, who would of thought.
Have fun mastering DS for months because its so op..
Been playing my Guardian more and more now, Mesmers are so strong to the point it feels so cheese so I stopped.
Pretty similar story to Thryfing. 80 Full Tahlkora’s asura necromancer just benched because it’s no longer fun for me when I log on to it. It’s amazing when you go from Necromancer to another class that actually has variety in both utility and traits to shoot for (and they also function).
As a Guardian I actually have 4-5 boons on my bar all the time! Instead of being locked out of my utilities to absorb hits, I can choose to negate it through blocks, blinds and aegis all without having to create a pause in my damage output (bleed stacking). I’m no longer limited to just debuffing others to decrease their damage output, why not do that AND give protection/boons to both myself and allies?
My control effects are actually meaningful, instead of just interrupting a skill, I can actually knock people off points and neutralize them and then keep them off in tPvP!
It’s a scene that can only bring smile to your face when you see what kind of numbers you can get with a well placed Wall of Reflection in WvW. Not to mention, you can grant near permanent AoE swiftness for fast supply runs as a squad, I even have mobility on this class. Some people have problems with Guardians in WvW, but those are mostly coming from people who aren’t very flexible in adapting different playstyles for different scenarios.
Plague form is a pretty good elite in team fights, but it doesn’t do jack when people start scattering and you can only choose one to chain blind. It’s nice for once to know you have a tide-turning elite that can come through in the clutch.
What’s this? I can actually break stuns routinely and grant stability in a 600 radius on a 30s CD? I get to do all of this, all this while still getting away with 3k armor, 21k hp, and 2.8k power? Yea, keep at it with the DS, that Fear and hits you can take with it is totally worth the hassle..
Hoping for fix and completing the map.
I succeed in WvW quite well on my necromancer. Definitely not the best there is, but I think I pull my own weight pretty well.
I stack up on Staff skills and Wells. The interesting thing about these spells is that they work through structures. I’ve killed a lot of people and siege equipment by targeting under bridges or through walls. Basic tactic for defending is to just drop Marks and Wells on the wall you’re defending. All the melee take a nice hit from that.
Well of Suffering is my bread and butter for most things. I like to use Spectral Walk to run up close to some siege equipment, drop a Well of Suffering, and then blink back to safety.
I’ve been 80 for awhile now and although I’ve been slowly playing a couple alts, I spend 80% of my time on my Necro. Why? Because its fun. I love dropping wells and exploding using my minion abilities.
Who would like to knock a moron his back with one mob and than charge two more in and have them explode in the face. although I look forward to future improvements I find the current class very playable.
I also changed up my dual dagger to a wield an Axe. I just think it feels better.

Still lots of fun. Necro is one of the better WvW classes out there imo.
80. Because I’m not ready to start another character yet, and I want to see what they do with the next patch.
Basically what Katai said.
I love WvW and there, one can do a “thing” or two with the necro. The “thing” is rather strange, though, because it requires a lot of variability in skills.
I actually went with condition master, staff and scepter/dagger. Consume condition, the two wells that do damage (sorry, to early in the morning to think properly), epidemic and plague.
It is one of the “WTF” builds, but it is the one I found working most in WvW. Of course I can go all conditions, take corrupts and blood is power and such, but it actually isn’t helpfull at all when you waste your skill bar on three enemies, who don’t give a kitten about being conditioned when there is more than thirty other players marking me as a target. No sir, not a way to go.
Thus, the wells. Reliable damage. A thing that necro simply doesn’t have and for that reason necro is UP. Those two wells doing damage can be applied fairly fast and are the ONLY thing that makes necro either get no drop or some drop. then, epidemic. I have my own scepter and traits for bleeding, but the key to mastering condition necro in WvW is understanding that I will never be able to apply conditions as well as other 15 people arround me. So, picking a properly conditioned target in range of the enemy team does too much to ignore. And plague, no need to explain, same case as epidemic.
Again, I know its lolbuild, but the most usefull in WvW. Marking gates, welling gates, death shrouding and repeat. Best XP I’ve ever had.

Because I find ground targeted AOEs fun, and staff + wells lets me have more of them than other classes.
I’ve been 80 for a couple weeks now and I still find stuff to do. Managed to get the fancy world completion star next to my name, trying to hunt down and complete jumping puzzles, doing dungeon runs with my guildies and trying to gear up. Since I have no rush, I’m also working on numerous alt chars on the side, but I’m glad I stuck to my decision of going with necromancer.
Doing Orr “exploration” with a friend or two is fun. Crafting items (though not class related) per demand for guildies as well.
Once we get more people going, we’ll be doing WvW more often as well.
Oh, and after ~200+ hours, I’m still loving necromancer. (:
Because It is fun!
No matter how “weak” it may feel compared to other professions, I still love the feel of the necromancer. Also, I still haven’t gotten around to getting 100% world completion, and I will get it on this character It’s not as if there’s any need to rush though. Most of my guild are still not lvl 80, and we are very slow in doing dungeons, so I’m playing different alts every now and then when I have reached my daily goal (! not the achievements, I don’t care about those) on my main.
I don’t care much about the variety in build, I guess – I always planned to go for conditions, seeing as I loved them since GW1 (putting stuff on the enemy, then just watching, waiting for it to die as it pretty much kills itself…good times.)
I’m one of those that quit before 80. Right now I’m l74 and play only sPvP with my necromancer.
Guardians are awesome in PvE.
i expected this necromancer will be as good as diablo 2 necromancer. but no skeletons and zombies. and he steals life like coward vampire… i am playing necromancer because i like necromancer but i dont like those skills.
I’m playing my Guardian more and more now in WvW. Necro was a fun leveling experience, but remains a frustrating endgame. Can they be strong in certain situations? Could someone master necro and do very well for themselves? Sure, but choosing the necromancer as your profession for gameplay is simply choosing to play at a disadvantage.
Level 80 here. Necromancer was my main in GW and I just can’t tear myself away from it. It fits the way I like my casters to be, too. Also, I continue because we will get a good fix soon. Hopefully today was just a little prep for the 10/1.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
I am a level 80 sylvari necro and I love it! I played a norn necro during beta 2-3 and I loved it as well. I took my time getting to level 80 because I wanted to enjoy exploring the map and participating in as many DE’s as possible. I made an alt ranger that I occasionally play when I get tired of the mat grind in Orr but my necro is and will always be my main! There were a few times along my journey to 80 that I did get frustrated but I kept going and I’m very happy that I did. I have no problems with killing mobs in Orr, I am at the final boss kill for my personal story chain, I have 2 crafts at level 400 and I’m patiently working to complete my armor set for WvW.
Yes, necros need some things fixed but I am willing to wait it out. I may not deal the most damage (which is fine by me…I’d rather lurk in the shadows causing significant damage over time) and I may lack a bar full of boons but I can hold my own with this profession! For those people on the this forum who continuously put this class down…I say go play your guardian, mesmer, theif alts and stop complaining about necros! Obviously, this profession is one that you can’t manage properly so move along to one that is MUCH less challenging…
i’m a level 80 and i still play because the class rules. sure, it isn’t the best for farming karma on cursed shore, but that activity isn’t even fun in my opinion. as i pretty much only do WvW, i have found the necro to be great fun, along with being effective on the battlefield.

My main is Necromancer, with an alt (mid-60s and countless hours in sPvP) is a Mesmer.
1. Aesthetically, I really enjoy the Necromancer.
2. Farming/PvE/Leveling with the Necromancer was much easier and more enjoyable than other professions I’ve used, mostly with the Mesmer.
3. Much, much more AoE options than the Mesmer in WvW, especially in keep/siege battles. Good WvW support options as well.
4. Death Shroud is a pretty great aesthetic and defensive mechanic, and potentially strong offensively (though I don’t build that way and don’t know definitively)
5. Siphoning and Minions are both fun and interesting in PvE, and I have confidence they will become somewhat viable for sPvP/WvW.

Necromancers rock for Karma farming on cursed! Just know were the mobs will pop out and when and you have 6 place-able damage AoE fields and Life Transfer, arguably the best farming skill in the game (High damage, no target or specific area of effect needed, hits as you move)
oh i know. i have no real trouble getting gold from events, but you have to admit that you gotta work a bit more for it than a power based class, especially on veteran and above mobs. it isn’t a big deal, and i still maintain that necros rule, hard.
