I find it ironic that a couple months ago, anet bumped up the chill application from chilling nova, then swings the nerf bat so far the other way that we lose chill damage all together along with a third of its duration. Why would I take these chill traits for a couple seconds of chill, and waste a gm trait on a stack of bleeding? I understand that in PvE you may actually end up with a decent amount of dps from the bleed stacks, but in wvw it’s pretty ridiculous. I’ll be testing throughout the week but I’m pretty sure these chill traits are weak sauce. Thoughts?
I don’t mind the change, its a smart one in some ways, especially PVE. My only things are:
1. I wish they’d make bleeds a bit stronger in general.
2. The trait instead gave 2 bleeds for shorter time.
I wouldn’t mind then.
I want to play reaper not necro v2.-1. So yeah I will probably dump condi for the time being.

Except for you don’t, it’s not worth it for a grandmaster trait AT ALL, we have so many sources of bleed in PvE that it’s utterally pointless to be a reaper if you are a condi build, as Dhuumfire is superior now.
I hadn’t made a condi reaper as of yet but I was planning on it. But this does take a lot of wind out of the sails even though I mainly play PvE.
One stack of bleed is crap. They could’ve at least applied 3 bleeds so it’d be closer to the original chill damage. And to be perfectly honest I wish they’d make it a few stacks of torment since for some reason necros have terrible access to that condition and it’d be effect since targets would have to spend more time moving with the slowed speed which would give increased damage. Having it apply like 3-4 stacks of torment would be a much less bitter pill than a single bleed.
Would make sense thematically as well.
If it was torment, no problem. If it didn’t require 4-5x the chill investment to get the same damage, might be okay. If they didn’t go and massively nerf our chill at the same time, probably fine. But none of those are true, and I’d be surprised if it isn’t really bad now.
3-4 stacks of anything would make the trait even more OP than it was because you could stack huge amounts of torment or bleed or whatever for a condi burst. At least with the old version you could get chilled 5x in a row and the DPS was the same.
That being said, I do support these changes. The game was better before that trait was introduced and I’m glad to see Deathly Chill nerfed.

Well it certainly isn’t better. Looks like they went with the general theme of my “Brainfreeze” idea but instead of torment or confusion went with bleed. I could see why confusion would be unfavorable for some, but Torment is right up our alley and Reaper has fairly little. This would have been an awesome way to throw Torment back into the mix. Maybe they were trying to make Reaper work better with Curses. Who knows…
All that said, I think 2 stacks of torment for 8 seconds would be great or 2 bleed for 6 seconds.
I think I’m done with the class altogether. A-net can’t be trusted to balance it properly. I have mained it in various specs since Beta. I’m just going to go full time Guardian i think – at least i’ll never have to worry about nerfs like this again.

Nope – but they have been a great class since the game launched. Not buffed to the extreme and nerfed to the extreme all the time.
They added boon corrupts which no one asked for and then nerfed the main theme of the whole bloody specialisation.

Yep, either would have been pretty reasonable. I do understand wanting to get it off of chill (stacking and the old burning problem), just poorly executed.

Can someone give me an updated Dhumfire condi build for raid? Scepter / dagger + Staff? Got full asc viper set with weapons and viper amulet + sinister rings.
Oh we get to chase people around with scepter…only with nerfed chill uptime. I look forward to getting kited even more while working hard to stack those pitiful bleeds.
Naw actually probably time to bust the daggers out again and pretend I’m a thief with bad mobility and sub par burst. A thief with no legs and silverware instead of daggers.
Maybe even skip reaper line completely and ignore the awful base ds
It’s tough. I have abit over 2k hours on my necro and have pvped lots throughout the years and have endured all the ups and downs with all the balance changes that have been thrown our way…and after these nerfs it’s really discouraging for me to want to continue playing my necro. I suppose I’m going to be taking a break for a while.
