How to Not Get Shafted
I’m going to contact some friends in game who I know have lines to the developers, and see if I can’t get contact info so I can personally convey some of our feelings, or at least make sure that those feelings have already been translated.
I’m kind of at a loss of what to say though. I’ve met a good portion of the PvP team in person. I felt like they were really passionate about the game and balance, and I still do. This is their game, its their baby, and they want it as good as possible, but I feel there is a disconnect between ideology and the final product.
This recent signet, for example. The idea was amazing. I and many others were really excited to see it in action, and to play around with it. A signet that gave up guaranteed burst healing for sustained/burst damage, with a lot of counterplay included for defending, and lots of room for skillful use/avoidance? Amazing idea. It had me really, really excited, not only for the skill itself, but the idea that “wow, Anet can come up with ideas like this? I can’t wait for the other skills they do.”
But then it gets previewed, and everything that made the skill really unique was stripped from it. They added a clunky ICD on defense for… what exactly? The passive damage was removed as well, both of these were key ideas for the passive. It was supposed to be something that applied passive damage reduction and damage output, to reward you for being in the fray. Then after you had baited out their defensive mechanics, you slap them with a mark, and your team descends for the kill. You save some fast-hitting moves to destroy them with a big burst, but the trade off is no burst heal at all. You’re completely trading away a guaranteed heal for passive damage reduction/retaliation, and a strong burst option, all with high counterplay.
But all the personality of the skill was stripped. The max stacks made sense (enforces a max-healing cap), but the rest of the changes completely gutted it. There is a big disconnect between what could have been, and what is, and it both saddens and annoys me. They butchered what could have been a great skill.
I’m open to ideas on how to get in contact, because I’d love to. I’d like to think they’d listen to me, as well as a few others, considering our history on these forums and in the community. Long ago I had been told by a dev that he’d really love to show up on a Podcast with me, but he got shut down by “higher ups”. I know for a fact that at least one dev watched a few of our old casts. But now ANet is completely unreachable. I’m honestly at a loss.
Going to have a nap – this kitten is just depressing.

Simple; swap to another class. Mesmer treats you pretty good if you want to play condition/support.
Maybe Necro’s will stop asking to have themselves nerfed while not offering what the compensation is, or asking for things in return that they refuse to give us based on dogmatic and dated design intentions.

If they have different design intentions, I’d love see them. Or hear about them. Or have inkling that they exist. Until then, we will hold on to them.
no one asked for dhuumfire either. we wanted more torment. not sure who pulled that one, but probably the same guy(s) who gutted the heal.

The problem is I absolutely love Necro MM, and no other class is remotely close.

One learns that not all love is good for us.

I could easily switch to Warrior for a comparable Bunkery/Damage melee build… but won’t out of stubbornness. I played an Affliction Warlock through Black Temple. I can put up with anything =D
I’m too stubborn to switch too.
It’s just depressing is all. Really, what other options do we have?
The Devs seem to have forgotten our prof description, and ignore glaring issues by fixing “around” them…
While we’re on topic of remembering roles. Why isn’t Dark Pact for dagger a 1200 range. What kind of gap closer/don’t run from me is <600 range? If they’re beyond 600 range they may as well be 1500+
Dark pact needs 1200 range pl0x ^-^

…. I’m only half kidding. The cake didn’t seem to do anything though… and we’ve tried reason and communication, so we know those are out… singing telegram?

Maybe we need to start making passive-aggressive statements on Facebook where we don’t really name ANet, but everyone knows its them.
Like: “This ONE company keeps ignoring me and not returning my texts. I guess they don’t even know I exist anymore!” except obviously in much worse grammar and more spelling errors.

Why? Necros are still the strongest prof in duels, small scale and zerging. The issue is they had an awesome idea and couldn’t figure out the numbers.
Actually I think warriors/mesmers are the #1 classes for duels. Just throwing that out there.

I dont get it either, go onto the WvW forums and youll see tons of necros are the best 1v1 class, necros are the best zerg class…if thats so, why do i hardly see any necros at all in WvW? I see tons of heavy classes but necros are a rarity. I was really hoping this new heal skill would make a siphoning build stronger, sadly it looks like itll just be a liability.
i wouldnt be surprised if Anet went ahead and buffed warrior healing signet at this point.

Forever together, or not at all.
I’ve said it before but it bares repeating, ANet is a company and GW2 is a product designed to make money.

I have tried every profession, but simply love the Necromancer mechanics the best.
(After the Dec 10th Preview (lol), I got my Mesmer to 80 with 45AR and gear for PvE and WvW. Powerful class but not my style.)
So I will continue playing my Necromancer for Free until I am given the impression that my profession is worth their time. (Death Magic comment…)
If every Necromancer was to do the same they would notice. (Hell even if only 20% were to do it, assuming a even spread of Gem buyers across professions, it would be around a 2.4% drop in revenue. (Base on the 1st Year Infographic))

True but if more Necromancers join you, it will slowly reflect in the profits and ideally their almighty metrics.
If not then those players who are not satisfied will eventually give up completely and drift away from the game, potentially encouraging their guilds to go with them.
(Honestly I don’t want the game to fail and have spent a significant amount of real money on Gem store items in the past. That said I personally feel the current and (visible) future state of Necromancer is not worth my money. In the future I hope that it is.)

I realize that voting with your wallet normally works, but they don’t exactly have info on who isn’t paying. If every Necro stops paying, they don’t suddenly realize “oh hey, Necros are kitten ed I wonder why”.
If anything, removing monetary support of the game hurts you. It means they have less resources, which is already a huge problem with why we don’t get fixed. If they had more resources, they could make more aggressive changes with our class.

Something you might need to fix, after finally leveling my ranger to 80 too (after the thief and the mesmer and leveling 3 engies and 2 eles to around 40 before deleting them because i noticed that something about their character model or name is off)/after the ragepause of my necro because of the putrid mark thing, my positioning (and when to use lich jhorrors) improved quite a bit, true i swapped to energy sigils (think that i got good enough to return to my dear hydro, i miss the floooshzzz sound) and signet of the locust for the mobility…
Oh I’m confident they could pull a report that shows profession playtime over gems purchased.
If not, be Vocal, they may one day remember that Necromancers have a class forum.
In truth Voting with your wallet may only show that you are unsatisfied, which is good enough. Loss of revenue whether from Necromancers specifically or more general groups (WvWers, PvPers, etc) show that they are moving in the wrong direction. How they correct that is up to them. I can only cast my “vote” and recommend others to do the same.
(Everytime I buy something I am showing that I want more of that style of product on the market and not another style. For example when I eat at a McDonalds I’m “Voting” for speed and convience (or laziness) vs. the style or quality of a “higher end” restaurant. I’m also voting that of all the fast food joints some of the time or all of the time I favour theirs.)

The developers are employed to make a product that will encourage us to spend real money on the gem store (should be read as a functioning and enjoyable game). If they are unable to do this, due to any reason (poor balance, blatantly ignoring an entire profession, etc) it is not the consumers duty to prop the product up. (If they cannot make a product worth the consumers money, the consumer will find another product to invest in.)
