I’m with a power build. berserker, dagger/warhorn and staff, well of suffering, spectral armor and wurm. 6/2/0/0/6 build.

Sometimes I can burst them down, but only if is a bad engi or without shield.
Against a engi with shield, I barely can win because he can block/reflect my attacks and can use a large amount of CC to take me down, making me unable to attack.

tricks?

1 – Dagger #3 > auto atk or wells at engi’s location. He will take some damage and probably panic and use his block.

2- Warhorn #4 is unblockable, it will interrupt his entire block “cast”.

3 – Swap to staff, place some marks down to put some pressure and reaper mark

4- DS #1 until he dead

Changing your utility skills might help.
Your only boon strip is Chill of Death and you could probably use an additional cleanse, so maybe try Well of Power and/or Corrupt Boon or Well of Corruption.
You could also move 4 points from Spite to Curses for Banshee’s Wail and Path of Corruption.

Exactly. If they have a shield, they’re condi. Don’t waste Staff 4. It’s very nice to give them back Fire, Confusion and Bleeds ect. Engi has very little condi clear, and most is tied to their heal.

I use d/wh also. I like to save BW to daze on their heal attempts after a good damage spike. And always remember, you can get away from Supply Crate turrets easily, and aoe them down or just stay off them. If you were condi(and I’m not saying go condi)you would faceroll and win. Gl HF

1) Get rid of turrets
2)Stack poison
3) kill

I like how they camp their turrets as a form of useful defense. Since the turret nerf, they tend to high tail it out of there the minute the turrets are gone.

I’ve make some try. I’m not the best necro ever and when a ranger, a thief or a mesmer find me from the range I’m barely dead.
But against a engi, boon corruption is very good. I’ve try some “strategy”, but in 1vs1 is hard for me to kill one. I have to learn.
PvP is never been my best. But I want to learn and be good in it. Or at last not be the worst necro in the game XD

A thief? As a power necro you are somewhat of a hardcounter to a thief. Thieves die as collateral damage in your Life Transfer AOE (while you are fighting someone else xD) or within 2 seconds when you attack them with your dagger thanks to chill of death.

Try to use Warhorn 5 right when the thief goes into stealth (to attack you 2 seconds later). This is a 10 second AOE cripple which makes it very hard for him to hit you if you move constantly. And keep in mind that your dagger autoattack does way more damage than his one. So when you’re running around and try to hit each other, it’s a 90% win for you. If he uses Black Powder (auto proc at 25% Health) go into Death Shroud and use Life Transfer (DS Skill 4) to keep pressure on him. Then most thieves lay in downstate next to you when they reappear.

If he immobilizes or stuns you, immediately switch to DS and use Skill 3 (Fear) + Autoattack (guaranteed 4k+ damage if he does not use a stun break).

And watch your staff marks on the ground and your Sigil of Fire auto procs. They show you the position of a stealthed thief.

But against a engi, boon corruption is very good. I’ve try some “strategy”, but in 1vs1 is hard for me to kill one. I have to learn.

Try to get familiar with your Staff skills. This is an underestimated weapon. It is at least as powerful as the thief’s shortbow. With the following combo:

Corrupt Boon > Staff Skill 3 (chill+poison field) > Staff Skill 4 (transfer conditions+explosion finisher) > Dagger or DS Autoattack

you can wreck most engineers in seconds.

The more boons he has which you can convert and the more conditions you can send back to him, the easier the fight. So don’t use this combo randomly!

Count Burning.

Every 10 seconds, with some random kitten proc, he will get that burning and poison from doom sigil on you. These are your priorities for transferring/cleansing.

Fear into transfers. Never do something like Staff 2,3,4,5. After they apply kitten ton of conditions with random procs on you, they will want to avoid transfer as much as possible. Dodging, blocking etc. But they have one stunbreaker. After they use it, every fear into transfer should land.

Never Consume Conditions without that Burning proc. Or at least try not to.

Besides that, keep Wurm up, you’ll need it for broken Slick Shoes combo.

When engineer with rifle runs up to you, disengage/FitG. It’s when they use Overcharged Shot.

Besides that, Dark Path goes through their block, any boon corruptions are perfect for engineers.
