Hybrid or glass cannon?`
Goto the post by nemesis stickied at the top he has a video that has everything you need to know about both builds. Personally I have the hybrid build which seems to be more versatile and less squishy. Glass cannon can be fun but is much more situational IMO.
My glass cannon build has the highest single target DPS (with dagger 4 attacks per second at 60% crit chance and 120% crit damage), while the conditionmancer has the highest AoE damage with 2000+ condition damage that spike on 5 targets every 12 seconds from epidemic.
The hybrid even in stats has about 60-65% of the potential of both builds… therefor when you are stuck with a single target, you don’t drop down in DPS like a conditionmancer would, and when facing multiple opponents for a long period of time, you don’t fade away like a glass cannon would.
That is why it is a damage hybrid… and it is “ultimate” because it’s been many months now and i have yet to see a better hybrid then this one… a build that can give out more condition damage and more direct damage at the same time.

Well, there you go! The man himself answered your question. ^^
To be fair though, while the hybrid is not as fragile as a pure berserker build, it is still about as glassy as any conditionmancer can get. The only toughness and vitality is the one you get from the few celestial trinkets.
We can’t answere this question. To find the answere ask yourself “where shall i shine?”
Do you often run with PUG? Do you have a group of friends to play? Do you prefer sPvP, Hot Join, PVE, Fractals, WvW?
Then look what you want to do and ask yourself "Do I need high single DPS or high AoE damage?
I prefer the zerker play style over the hybrid. but zerk necro , if you dont take staff or epidemic, is painfully single target outside of wells.
Before anyone can answer your question correctly you need to specify what you want to build for, different aspects of the game call for different builds.
I usually break it down as;
- Dungeons
- PvE
- WvW (Solo roaming/ Havoc squad/ Guild vs. Guild)
- Hot join PvP
- Tournament PvP

Wow, thanks for looking and replying to my little help. :] I’ve been trying a few of your builds and it would seem like your hybrid build seems to fit in the best. Thanks for that great explanation. Now I guess it’s time to farm a few dungeons for the gear and money!

I mostly do Pve and Dungeons. I don’t do much pvp or WvW, though they are fun but I keep dying rather quickly than anyone else around.

PvE and Dungeons so straight up Condition Damage then, Rabid armour and trinkets. Something like this will give you all the damage you need in Dungeons whilst having a 100% bleed cap to maximize on Barbed Precision and Superior Sigil of Earth.
It will be pretty decent in WvW too as long as you avoid the main zerg fights, good build for solo roaming or havoc squads.
