After many months of searching beyond “bugs”, I have found something… Axe Training requires 30 Spite, and thus can not be used in addition to Close to Death. Since Close to Death is better even for an Axe user, the trait ability Axe Training is pointless unless moved

Axe Training + Sigil of Force is the same thing as Close to Death. Except all the time. And with faster cooldowns.

cd’s are only an issue if running a signet-heavy or well utility setup. If running a spectral-heavy setup w/ Shroud, the cd reduction isnt that important. Plus you’ll never get me to let go of my Bloodlust

Yeah but it only affects the axe weapon. Close to Death affects every weapon.

Question: does Axe Training give its damage boost to your Death Shroud skills if you’re holding an axe? You are still technically wielding an axe, after all.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

I haven’t tested, but I’m going to guess no. I assume that Axe attack skills are coded so that they check for the Axe Training trait and behave accordingly. If that is the case then the bonus would not carry to DS.

Close to Death is certainly very good, but it depends on getting your opponent down to 50% HP without having a damage bonus. If the main source of your burst is going to be Axe #2 then Axe Training is better. Staff will probably be your other weapon set anyway, and that has Spiteful Marks as a Master level trait. Close to Death is the clear winner if you are using a dagger though.

Axe Training does carry over to death shroud. The recharge reduction doesn’t apply, but the damage boost does.

Well I’m going to sit back and see if Anet gets convinced to buff the class before deciding whether I need to reroll. If they ignore the bad players and forum warriors, I will continue to enjoy my Necro.

Axe training buffs your power base when Axe is equipped at 80 it adds over 100 Attk when I switch to Axes it buffs every attack not just the Axes let’s hope Anet doesn’t notice that :P.

Axe in DS with Axe Training will still, and I can guarantee this, do less damage than staff with no training in DS.

Base stats and power coeffecient for Axe are garbage. It’s a kiting/superiority weapon, not a main DPS weapon. Use it as such and it’s axe-ceptable.

Death Shroud skills have their own power coefficients and the base damage for an axe is pretty good.

That’s the most ridiculous assumption out there. Staff is our single weakest weapon. It has great marks when traited, but is at all points not a main dps weapon. There isn’t a single knowledgeable necro that would claim that. Staff is great in specific situations. Axe is great all the time, and DS is our most powerful attack outside of Lich Form.

Actually, because Staff is a 2-handed weapon it has a higher base-damage which affects the amount of damage that LifeBlast deals.
You can test it yourself in the mists, equip a 1-handed weapon and staff and switch between the 2 in DS, Staff equipped damage will be higher.

Edit – Axe is also a horribly niche weapon while Staff is versatile as heck, just look at the amount of builds that use each weapon.

Attrition – A pretty name for taking longer than anyone else to kill something.

It’s not higher than Axe Training. I will double check again today, but I find staff to be the absolutely worst weapon to possibly use in pvp unless running in a coordinated team as a support. it’s too easily dodged, the damage is minimal unless traited for Marks.

Definitely… Everytime I’m forced to switch to it, you know, since we lack in long range, i just remove my headset. Can’t stand the noise.
