Hey Death community, some of you may or may not remember a post I made awhile back about how I respect the necromancer for what it has to work with and how well people achieve success. I have finally settled on a build a like, a condition fear necro, near full dire gear with 0/30/20/0/20. I know I know, don’t roll condis, but I honestly loved the playstyle. My main is a thief so off the bat, the necromancer class sounds like something I’d absolutely hate, but it’s because of this opposite spectrum I’ve come to really like this class. I also have a guardian but I’d go far as to say my necromancer is probably my most tankiest character, ironic too since she is the smallest. I love how they can play defensively and offensively at the same time. Now since I haven’t yet delved into the arts of the necromancer as much as my thief, maybe it’s blinding me from the more under-the-surface-flaws many of you have complained about. I’m not going to sit here and say the class is perfect, but I will say that so far, I’m enjoying what this class has to offer.

I won’t go in depth on what I would like to see for starters, many of you have already done that. I would like the Flesh Golem to be more responsive, sometimes it won’t attack unless I make it. I saw a thread about how necros should have confusion. In theory this would really be cool, but I also think extremely controlling. Necromancers are all about that but I mean, discouraging you from attacking while rapidly applying conditions on you sounds a bit too controlling. If anything I think necros should have access to torment. Only one move that gives it is kind of bland as it would be really useful. Necromancers can’t chase so why not give them the option of discouraging running? I’ve had encounters with torment where I had to make the decision to actually stay still and gamble my condi clear to come off of CD because if i ran, the torment would have downed me. Necromancers should delve into that. Literally making people scared to move rather than just applying another damaging condition to increase condi dps. It’s rather hard to use Torment as a tool with how it’s given to the necro rather than just another offensive condition. Maybe apply it to Feats of Corruption or other skills as well?

Another thing I’ve noticed is deathshroud usage. Even as a condi necro I find it useful for bleeds, Doom (best imo), and torment among others. I see comments like “deathshroud is your oh kitten button”. I now know that those who say that haven’t played the necro enough. It’s more than your Oh kitten button, it should be implemented into your fighting style in any way it can benefit you. Shroud dancing is a unique gameplay method in my opinion and it’s part of why the necromancer class is so durable.

In closing, I have really come to enjoy this class, all variations of it. There may be flaws in what not but I figured it would boost your guys’ morale to know that there are people out there who still think that not all is lost. Afterall we all dislike warriors right? A common enemy never hurt anyone.

Lol. I’m more of a direct damage player myself, and it’s the reason I love my Necromancer. On any other class I have tried, being a glass cannon means I might get some good damage in before I get focused down and die. On my Necro it means I’m going to hit like a truck and and still be standing after the fight thanks to my Deathshroud and fast Life Force generation. Absolutely love it.

yeah i was getting tired of veilbotting, so i decided to make a power necro and omg its soo much fun! love the class. i feel useful in wvw raids and happy i have aoe now. i do think necro does need a few buffs in defense and maybe a few ways to get away from combat(like a leap or something) and a few bug fixes are needed, but at least im having a blast.

I’ve done things with my necro that would make my guardian cry.
/coughs http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Preserving_the_Balance /coughs

Being fairly new to the game, I am still in ‘profession testing and WTH do I play’ mode. So, I made a Norn guardian, and a Norn necromancer. Chose the same paths for both, so they went through the same stuff. The Personal Story quest Preserving the Balance made my guardian cry. My necro laughed as she stood amongst the piles of dead elemental. Heck, I didn’t even dodge, just popped in and out of death shroud. Pop into death shroud and did AOE stuffs, popped out to summon dead minions, pop staff AOE’s with heal as last skill, swapped to scepter/focus and popped it’s heal, went back into death shroud and did aoe stuff. rinse, repeat, laugh.

I am not saying necro is ‘OP’. FAR from it. It takes talent, skill, timing, fight prep, and a tad of luck. However being more ‘utilitarian’ than the guardian, it’s got more resources to overcome a wider range of situations.

I mean with the guardian it seemed like I was doing the same skills, the same way, the same, same, same, same. Necro seems to have no ‘real’ rotation. Sure, there’s a standard way to fight, however if you have to step outside that routine it seems not to care as much as the guardian does. /shrugs.
