This mesmer is wearing Wraith Mask, an item that is given at necro character creation.
I know, it’s transmut stone and stuffs, and it is completely alright.
But I’m still sad
The glowing eye mask is the pride of necro for me.

This can’t be done! I wanted to get all the starting masks on my necro and I couldn’t because they’re soulbound! Even if you transmute them the soulbound won’t disappear.

They have racial armor restrictions in the game for cultural armor, they could have easily programmed profession restrictions for certain items, as well.

Perhaps in the future…

Maybe Mesmers have an eye glow item?

Steps to getting a starting item on any character (armor type must be the same, i.e. necro masks can only be worn by the 3 light armor classes [nec, ele, mes]) :

1. Create a new necro and select which starting mask you want, beat the intro (you’ll be level 2).
2. Go to the mists button -> walk into Lion’s Arch asura gate -> walk to the bank
3. Go to armorsmith vendor that’s near the crafters and hit the second purchase tab to see level 10 gear (head pieces aren’t available for the level 5 gear) and purchase a white head piece (make sure your char has around 84 copper or something like that, you can deposit money from your main char into the bank and withdraw it on your lowbie if you don’t have enough)
4. Use a Basic Transmutation Stone(from your main – most likely you keep these in your bank) and drag in your starter mask and the white head piece you just purchased. Click on the appearance icon of the necro starter mask and the stats of the white item you just bought. Verbose explanation:The item will now say Soulbound due to the transmutation, however the white items somehow break this effect and you can now put this item in your bank for your main to take out - normally if an item is Soulbound to a character, when another one of your characters attempts to withdraw it from the bank, it will have red text on it that reads, "Soulbound to another character" and this prohibits withdrawal. This is not the case with Soulbound White(Basic quality) items.
5. Deposit your new mask in your bank
6. Log out to character select and log on your main
7. Withdraw the mask on your main and use a Fine Transmutation Stone to apply the look of the mask to the stats of whichever Exotic quality headpiece that you wish to use. Do not worry, transmutations maintain your gems/crests/runes, as well.
8. Delete the level 2 necro you made just to steal their mask, and reclaim the character slot.

Certain items also lose their soulbound property if you delete that character and wait for it to delete from the games servers (Like a week) supposedly this is how you can get that engi starter backpack for any class. Also this works for necro masks, mesmer masks and other items.
