I love Necro and being underestimated
Sounds like you’d enjoy trying out the new downed-state builds xD (this is actually a thing, check out the other threads).

This might do it but the idea is too siphon health with high damage when your foe is under 50 % it works better with MM builds
^Example of what can happen but a couple buffs so it can be used in competitive matches would be most appreciated.
The Dhuumfire thread
No good player underestimates a Necromancer.
Swapped from Necro to Guard about 6 months ago… Guard is so much better it isn’t even funny…
Swapped back to the Necro tonight for a few hours of WvW… still does some good damage, but once you’re locked you’re completely screwed.. needs to be looked at imo
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
I love using so called bad classes in every game and showing people up, just saying. when they find out I actually know what I’m doing usually it’s too late for them as they are in down state fighting for their life.
Profession not class*
Also most people can beat a necro unless they suck at the game, and if you are as good as you say literally all other 7 professions would be far better for you as you could actually be good for your team unlike the necromancer.
Necromancers are abysmal in PvE, PvP and WvW, unless arenanet somehow magically fix the necromancer in the upcoming expansion then they will see an even bigger fall of necromancer players.

L2p so you stop spreading garbage like this. If you need proof pick any class you want and fight my necro.
S P E E D Starr #0 Necro NA or
I Am NeXeD awful d/D ele NA
necromancer are very important in WvW
look at backline gvgs
Necromancers are great for learning about other classes in PvP since they don’t require you to know exactly what to dodge all the time. My first character, a mesmer, was too difficult for me to play well in PvP right off the bat so I made a Necro. Jumped into ranked PvP right off the bat and now I’m sitting at a 70% winrate ~800ish ranked. The biggest issue I’ve run into is getting stunlocked and focused, which I’ve been trying to work on by +1ing fights instead of running everywhere solo.

you’re a fool, necro’s have been taken to most major PvP tournaments (Didn’t the china finals have three across all the teams?) they are in shambles and people know that, but they function extremely well for having so many sketchy design choices, It’s the same case in WvW, for zerging they’re very much needed due to wells and AoE pressure.
I will admit, they’re not in use in PvE zerk groups, but i’ve never been hardcore enough to care about speedruns, so i’ve never noticed, I haven’t once been kicked for being a necro, honestly i’m not sure where people are finding these groups that do this, but at the same time i don’t join zerker groups since it’s often the case they fail faster than defensive groups due to the snooty attitude.
Look, i’m in agreeance with the oP here, I’ve got a engi/guard/thief at 80 i play too, but i always come back to the necro, being both the worst and best in certain ways is my favorite thing and always will be.
I just don’t understand where people get that necros ar ebad, 3 days ago I watched a necro beat 3 ppl alone it was amazing and I think the sustain is what makes up for not having escape mechanics to balance it out. Necros would be op if they be hard to kill and have amazing sustain. I could be wrong but that what I think. I love this class and I just not buying it that it’s a bad class
exactly my thoughts safiyasha.. i dont understand why people are saying necro is bad. i had ele/ranger/thief at 80s. then i rolled necro and i realised how actually OP it is. yes – we do lack some teleports. but instead we have probably the BEST defense on power builds. and we are not those that run. necros survivability is not running out but fearing away. basically instead of backing off u r controllin ur enemy for extra seconds to refresh. so only one thing anet could do is adding some teleport/breakstun skill and then people would see how actually OP we are. 1 breakstun/teleport on lets say 20sec cooldown would be a major thing to us.
PS. the only class that i would say i felt very very needs attention is Thief. Thieves are always on the edge. can die any second(in spvp tho). in wvw thieves are still viable and can outplay any1.. but necro? well i doubt. just some minor sustain is needed but we are already a running fortress so thats debateable.

You’re mixing modes.
Necromancer is bad in organized PvE. You can do anything in open world because it’s so easy and the only person whose time you’re wasting is your own, but once you group up for something (especially dungeons / fractals) you are now unarguably bringing down the team.
Necromancer is otherwise great in WvW, and strong in PvP. Every good player already recognizes that, and no one who is worth their weight will tell you otherwise. That isn’t to say that the class is perfect, and there are countless things that ANet should fix about the class, but they’re functionally pretty good.
Lol, all of you who say necromancer isn’t good are clearly suffering from a L2P issue. I have all professions but ranger and can honestly say (from a WvW stand point) necro is on or with most classes in all aspects of WvW. Back line well, power/Condi roaming. Even for mobility, there are ways to have more mobility than even warriors and thieves if you know how to do it. The trick to All Necro builds in WvW is to be vertical, not horizontal, like so many classes. With high health pool and DS, you can kite and damage people in 1vX scenarios, and than use the height to your advantage (fear, spectral walk/recall stuff, etc.). Also, necro’s chill is OP!
The mixup comes from the difference between the highest tier of play (of each game mode) and basically everything else. At the highest tiers of play it is 100% about the absolute best in the current meta since basically everything will be played at max or near max efficiency; in lower tiers of play where gameplay errors are common being ideal is less important than actual play.
In general, Necromancer doesn’t really exist at the top tier of play except in WvW and a very specific few players in PvP (generally NA where team play is arguably worse than EU). This isn’t because Necromancer can never be good, but because when every build will be played nearly perfectly Necromancer doesn’t perform as well. At lower tiers of play, a well played Necromancer will obviously outperform a badly played anything. It is also true that a lot of Necromancer (and any profession) weaknesses won’t be taken advantage of by lower tier players, especially when that counterplay is more on a map-scale (out rotating, focus fire, good team play, etc.).
As a side note, we are currently seeing Necromancer in high tier PvP be more successful than it ever has been excluding Dhuumfire. That should show how easily we can be swung into favor, and why huge changes aren’t necessary to the profession overall.

Umm while I agree with you on everything except this, wvw is the one area where necros excel in some settings more than any other class. They’re arguably the most potent class in zergbusting/gvgs and they can roflstomp in solo roaming on Condi builds.
Edit: MY BAAAD xD didn’t see the ‘except’

Changes promised or hinted at in HoT may help Necromancer’s PvE competiveness.
Necromancer is condition heavy and boon light while PvE bosses have condition resistance but do not punish boon holders.
