I propose a boycott of Necromancy
I will never give up on the necro class, no matter how bad it gets. I may throw my fits about it, maybe occasionally offer helpful comments, but I won’t give up no it. I honestly don’t think we’re in the horrible place so many people say we are. Yes we have problems that need fixing. No we are not a totally broken class. Boycotting necros will accomplish absolutely nothing.
I was mistaken…badly. After this latest debacle I don’t know if I can ever go back….
This is one year old. Talk about necro’ing a thread…
He does have a point and necro’ing a year old thread only shows how long MANY of us hoped it would get better; myself included. Sorry to say but I have already given up (short of being a well bomber in WvW) fortunately I have all the tomes I will need for leveling my revenant.

We don’t need to boycott Necromancy anymore. Any half-decent player with a shred of wit will know that Necromancers suck in everything [apart from zarging] and will avoid the class.
If the Necromancer community worked together and listen to me a year ago, we might have had some results.
Anyway, kitten Necromancers. I wasted 2 years on it. I will main Revenant as soon as it comes out. At least I will have an even start with other people if I main Revenant.
Arena Net should just remove this kittenty profession.
Seems a bit melodramatic. Only thing i dont like is that they didnt give fitg enough thought imo. It was already a very minimalist timed stability to invest a GM trait in… it didnt need nerf to keep it in line with the game. I have a feeling they will fix this anyway though, nobody going to use it as is.
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
Only a bit melodramatic? This is like Romeo and Juliet levels of melodrama.
I guess Bieber was right though. Never say never.
And I like to think I’m a half-decent player with a shred of wit, but I’m going to stick with my Necromancer. You silly sallies don’t even know any details about the specialization system, and you’ve gotten so reliant on various class-based crutches that when they are swiped out from under you, you fall on the ground and blame the crutch for failing you, immediately looking for a new crutch to fall in love with.
But if you don’t like the direction, play a new class. That’s fine.
“He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”
I can’t swap to Revenant (or anyone else) because their pet builds are awful.
You obviously havent tried the searing druid guardian. :>
Ladies and Gentlemen/my fellow necromancers:
Given the paucity of communication from the Devs, and given that the necromancers that frequent this forum have pointed out the problems with our current state and identified every bug and downside to the class, I propose we, the necromancer community, boycott the necromancer section of the forums. There is simply nothing left to say until such time as bug fixes are implemented or a developer chooses to actually contribute to the community discussion. I for one, will withdraw from commenting in this forum until one of the above happens. Will it change anything? likely not, nor do I require you to care what I have to say. A forum is a place to express oneself about the game, and I have nothing constructive to add.
I have read practically every post, contributed where I could, transitioned from excitement about the class, to frustration with the limitations and bugs, to increased frustration due to limited dev communication and outright veiled insults , to anger, and now calm. I have dealt with the possibility that the devs do not agree with their community and potentially have no fixes planned.
Thus, I bid you good day, good evening, and a well intentioned good bye, until such time as we see changes. Wish you all the best of luck.
EMPTY WORDS FROM DEVS
(edited by Shafi.8952)
idk, I’m finding myself rather skeptical of the expansion in general but I think the Necro is a good example of how, imo, Anet doesn’t really seem to know how to fix things or how their “fixes” will actually influence other things. Necro has almost always been the bottom of the barrel class. I’ve tried desperately to play necro and not be a detriment to the team (as compared to any other class I could bring), it’s, imo, the most fun class to play, but it is almost useless outside of WvW zergs (comparitively). Necroing this thread or not, it represents that Anet is incapable of fixing core issues, the same issues that were a part of the necro community a year ago are still issues today.
As I play the necro in fractals, dungeons, or world events, I can’t help but think that I could better serve my team by picking any other character. I love the necro’s playstyle, but I hate the feeling that I’m burdening my teams by playing one. As it stands, I can’t help but think the devs have abandoned the entire class. At this point, removing it completely from the game really wouldn’t hurt the game since the necro is, at best, a mediocre class. The amount of work you have to put into the class to be considered mediocre is insane.
I’m going to be watching the new specialization when it releases, but I don’t have much faith that it will bring the Necro to a point that makes it a relevant class. I can’t remember the necro ever not being considered the “worst” class outside of WvW, so why would the devs change it now? Why bother boycotting an entire class though? It’s already designed in such a way that, outside of WvW, no one will level one outside of the novelty of making one.
And yet there are people like Symbolic and Khalifa, and Nemesis. I’d say a win/lose record of 2000-400 speaks a lot for itself.
And if they chose a good profession they would do even better, that’s right no matter how good you are in a necro, if you’re 10% above mediocre you’re better on all other professions, be it WvW, PvE or PvP.
Why do you think so FEW people are good at necro?, because it takes 150 times more skill and talent to be just on an almost equal footing with the rest of the professions.
And to you who say you do well on necro, try fighting good players instead.
This is a necro’d thread. You are responding to a comment Bhawb made over a year ago. >.>
At least I was necroing my own comment lol. But I also necro’d this for the purpose of pointing out that nothing has really changed about necros. They still struggle from the SAME PROBLEMS they have the entire time. Giving us burning, a smatter more healing on a mostly useless signet, a broken signet heal, and tooltip clarity has done nothing to address core problems. myself and so many others are sick of trying to be the one to carry the banner and defend necros, beause honestly after 3 years it’s clear nothing will change. We have a chance to get a class that appeals to many necromancers lovers but one that addresses all the flaws the necro has while still maintaining something close to the necro feel. It’s sad that revenant wil empty out so many of the necro population but maybe that is what will be needed to get the seriousness across that necro needs help.
And no I’m not fooling myself into claiming that necro is unplayably broken, but when you lose out on the fun of the class because you’re simply struggling to “get by” whereas other classes just coast through stuff effortlessly, it should raise warning flags that there are problems. If one day necro somehow magically gets all the things it has needed since day 1, I might just come back to it. But right now my need for having fun while playing the game is in jeopardy and unfortunately for our gool ol corpse lover class, revenant seems to be the one that will fill that niche.

Nah I agree 100% with what you wrote. Nothing really has changed after three years and I doubt it will, even with the addition of a greatsword which will do nothing but give us a cleave pwr weapon. The base class badly needs improvements in the areas of stability and defense and has only received as you as you said, dhuumfire and minor changes that have done little.
I intend to play Revy exclusively for at least a month and see how it works out. Necromancer is not horrible but its limitations due to the DS mechanic and focus on condition management probably make it hard to balance. I keep thinking Revy is Necromancer’s replacement candidate and, once it is balanced, the Necromancer profession will be reworked into something else.
How many times do we have to hear how Necromancer is “in a good place” without an explanation of how that conclusion was reached? Is it good because anything better would somehow be OP? Why is that? I get the feeling the original designers created a lemon and the balance team is stuck with its quirky flaws.
Balance team did not/does even have the guts to openly discuss the necro with the community, let alone address the clear issues that have been pointed out by said community post-huge nerf following beta and throughout the evolution of the game. Pretty much every other class has improved considerably. What we got was dhuumfire and then an adjustment to other skills due to dhuumfire followed by a nerf to dhuumfire and a failure to return other skills to baseline subsequently making us weaker than where we were pre dhuumfire. Ok, We got some cruddy skills in lines that no one consistently uses and another nerf to a grandmaster which rendered it even worse. So I for one am tired at the backward progression of the necro and laugh that we get fixes to skills that have been bugged since beta which some consider buffs. That is a a freakin sick joke. But hey, if anet is happy with their 4 class meta due to their esport dreams so be it. Oh, five classes post HOT. They are introducing a class that does what the necro was supposed to do with, mobility, stability, damage mitigation and defense, and control, while being able to output damage. We have damage output if you trait for it at the expense of defense, or wait, what defense. Oh yeah, health and life force, our defense.
I has not been Nerf-city for Necromancer, Glyph.
Minions, axe, dagger, signets, spectral, downed state, some DS, and some wells have all been strengened but conditions have been trimmed as Arenanet turns Necromancer into a face tank profession.
I wonder if the heavy armor Revy will be better as a tank like Necro or a ranged mage like Necro might have been. Hammer is certainly interesting.
2 years later, this topic is still relevant. ;D
^- downed state was FIXED, not buffed. Fixed, as in not working properly for nearly a year! Some DS? Oh, you mean the removal of LF on match start or what?
Thank goodness for the minions buffs however, they’re amazing. -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kittenKW9S5U&feature=youtu.be
I think necros are fun because every time anyone asks the devs / Collins about necros in an interview, you’ll get the dumbest of faces and most cunning avoids to answer the question. It’s like a sure way to not get an answer, but just take your time, breathe in and observe how the dev is trying to talk himself out of it / avoid it.
Hahhahahah so true. They always look shocked when it comes up and seriously look uncomfortable.
A buff and a fix can be the same thing. A buff is just anything that increases our power, which in many cases has been tied to bug fixes (which actually helps prove the point that Necromancer was never weak, just broken).
But yeah, Necromancers right now are actually at the best point we’ve ever been at, really. Power and Condi are both viable in top tier PvP without the use of a completely broken trait, we’ve got a strong zerg presence, and we can roam decently well. We’re just missing out on PvE and having more options available (but pretty much every profession only has 1-2 options in the top tier so this isn’t that specific to us).
Not that we are fixed, but we are much closer to the situation other professions are at.

go watch when they previewed Sig of vamp and you’ll see this firsthand. it was something like 30 total seconds where they activated the skill, things went silent, and then “ok moving on to the next class” I very nearly fell out of my chair and I turned off the stream after that. made me die a little inside.

Yay we got a grandmaster trait that qualifies roughly as a grandmaster trait and people are using it as an exemplar that necros are in a good spot. I don’t feel the same. I feel we still have some way to go in order to be on par with the other classes in the realm of defense. One stunbreak/stab skill is not enough for me to say we are in a good spot.
