i always saw qq thread about necro they always says same things: necromancer is weakest class in game necromancer is useless in pvp bla bla .

i wonder how is necro at pvp and pve after updates coz i really love necro class but i dont want to farm it 80 for being weak

PvE necro is still the worst
PvP necro is playable, just fine in non-organized play, but arguably subpar in organized play unless your team is built to protect your weaknesses

Maybe I just suck with my other classes, but I play engi/ele and feel like I excel on my necro. I do hate not having blast finishers or fire fields for might stacking. I get told we do bad damage but I’m not really seeing it. I really really wish there was a place to test my PvE damage in a controlled environment but pvp dummies don’t work for me since i use some rampagers gear.

This class is not worth it to play, in any game-mode. Roll another class.

I love my necro, but it’s barely playable. No meaningful group benefit, a ping-pong ball in spvp, and our top dmg, consists of DS/lich #1 spam.

It’s un-innovative, poorly designed, and still being nerfed (lol..)

There’s no need for me to post any suggestions either, because look at the necro forums, so many suggestions already that fall on deaf ears.

Necro is good in WvW, bad in pvp, bad in dungeons. If you are running doing PvE events, Necromancer is second tier.

PvP the problem is no mobility/no leaps or targeted teleports.
Dungons the problem is bad group utility.
Open world pvE the problem is bad access to cleaving/tagging.

WvW the necromancer is great: mobile AoE from range and super tanky.

i dont understand how some people are saying necro is bad in pvp. :S

i’m rank 80 and play pvp almost exclusively and my necro is one of my favourite chars,
i play power/wells with d/w and a 4/4/0/0/6 set up, and i love it!

also since i’ve been pvping since beta I got the unobtainable Tribal Armour that people are after fairly early, rawr! ;-3

I would argue that necros have a lot of options for powerful group utility, but it’s not focused enough or meaningful enough to be a worth considering in group comps. It also depends on if you’re referring to fractals or regular dungeons. I think necros have a better spot in fractals because survivability and damage reduction can be pretty relevant, as opposed to dungeons where zerg is king. The lack of fire fields (and surplus of other fields that are less desirable) and almost no blast finishers means its inherently selfish in the zerg mentality, but the substantial amounts of conditions like weakness, vulnerability, poison, chill, some decent defensive fields like poison/dark, one of the best boon strippers, some aoe condi cleanse in a pinch, above average aoe and solid single target damage gives them a decent spot. It’s tough to argue they’re optimal in any PvE setting but I think they get a worse rap than they deserve. It’s frustrating spending the whole dungeon trying to justify your existence against elitist pricks. I want more dungeons like fractals that push party to their limits instead of just trying to max dps.

Also, nerf fire fields.

Well, for blast finishers, here are the potential outcomes:
3s Blind
3s Chaos Armor
20s Might x3
3s Frost Aura
3s Retal
10s Swiftness
3s Weakness
3s Stealth
Area Heal

Which of these things is not like the other? While I think it’s good to be aware of what fields your group is putting down, as is you deserve a slap in the face for putting anything else down if a fire is down. That’s not good design, in my opinion.

I think 1 or 2 stacks of might or a reduced duration on the 3 stacks would make fire fields more in line with the others and also make a big impact on the dungeon zerging meta that isn’t particularly fun and they’ve been nerfing gradually over the past year (by hotfixing dungeon mechanics and nerfing FGS)

I would agree, if else’s as a whole didn’t rely so heavily on might stacking. If they nerfed it the whole elementalist class would take a serious blow in power.

Good, the elementalist profession is already amazing in PvE and WvW (and this won’t significantly hurt them in either) and their might-stacking build is very obviously too good in PvP.

Well, I’d say necros are particularly good at putting a stop to that (with boon stiripping), but yeah, I gave my celestial ele a serious shot last night and I was amazed at how effortlessly I dished out damage by just spamming buttons. Obviously the class has a high skill cap but a low barrier to entry to at least do decent. I have to work my kitten off to do substantial damage on my celestial necro but I was just dropping people barely thinking. It does have some shortcomings I missed compared to necro but overall the build pretty much plays itself.

I should just play her for PvE too, at this rate.

I just started on ranger , warrior, mesmer (Wvw atm)
With generic builds i got from the forum.. no idea tbh, but i guess once you know the necro its a lot easier to counter them, just keep range om mesmer and ranger, and spam buttons on my warrior.

Memers: gs,staff pushback, range aa.
Ranger: pew pew.. range aa.
Warrior: hammer sword, focus, counting my utility cooldowns
Thief: A build where i have to press 3 and stealth, evade alot. (tbh i cant really play thief)
Engie: no clue. i drop turrets and hope for a immobilize.
Guardian: Crit build where i need to make sure i hit them. and keep buffs to a Minimum.

I must confess i fought power/mm specs.

Maybe the forum guides are too good ^^

Eh on certain nights for WvW i switch from my ele to my power necro makes a good bolster to a front line when you have too many pew pew rangers running around your team. And dropping enough wells will make for some effective area denial.

In PvP, the necro is good. Still has the old issues, like being either dominator or dominated, but one can get used to it. Some things counter necro so hard it’s not funny (cele ele, some rangers, medi guard trololo), necro counters some other things equally (engies). A newbie will still get smashed by another newbie playing any other class, because necro has a very high knowledge requirement to play with success.

I play necro just in WvW roaming and PvE (yep, just hate me for that ^^). I’m leveling my third necro to lvl 80 and can’t tire it. In WvW the classical terrormancer is still usefull in duel/small group figths (didn’t tested it in mass attacks yet) and it work fine.
In PvE it’s ok that necro is’nt among the best dps classes BUT: in theory craft warrior does max 25K dmg in 8 sec with HB, DS power necro with LB spam dies 36,4K dmg in 8 sec (and theory craft doesn’t count the +10% in case of wielding axe, but the game does). In this way of thinking it’s not so bad if u see that u can maintain DS so long, in LS u have mid/high dmg rate to pop back into DS. + it’s fukkkkingly surviveable. I like my necros (dont misunderstand me, i would appreciate some buffing on it) and i’m satisfied with it.
In other, someone told above that necro is hard for new players. Well, i’m leveling (and leveled them) with D/W or D/F and it was easier and more fun than leveling a guardian, warrior, ranger or anything else, nearly never had to use utility/elite skills, or just for making the fight more fun/epic/stylish/spectacular, but nearly never for it’s real purpose.

I don’t have that much trouble playing Necro in PvE, PvP and WvW myself. In PvE with minions, I don’t die as often as I would with other classes like the elementalist. In WvW, I could always use wells to help out the zerg. For PvP, it’s definitely not the best class, but I thought it suited my playstyle the best.

I’m rather surprised to hear this from you of all people.
Those “hardcounters” might apply to some necro builds but definitely not to the class in general (pretty much like not every engi is an easy kill for us). I for one have yet to see any of them pose a serious threat to me.

Necro is very good in tpvp (the current NA team comp to beat involves a necro in their composition because they are very good in skirmish fights). Okay in WvW. And not very good in PvE.

40k damage for 8 sec is 5k dps, wich is between a half or a third of a staff ele. Necro dps is higher than that, and more precisely, their burst is insane with well+wh5+focus 4+ds5+ dagger aa. Last time I checked and it was quite a while ago, their dps ranged around 8,5k.
