I want to make a necro, but not use minions
Most builds that are meant to be used outside of PvE kindergarden don’t use any minions except the one forced on those using any Death Magic at all, so yes.
Death shroud builds, well builds, condition builds can all be used without minions.
Condition builds with Epidemic work great in WvW, power builds with wells are nice for dungeons (as are well builds for healing, protection, etc). Minion master builds are pretty much never used past ca lvl 55 since the AI leaves too much to wish for, the only exception being the elite flesh golem for pve leveling.
Wow! It sounds like my preferred play style is perfect for the broken stat of the AI. I mean, minions are fun and cool at all but I mainly used death magic and blood magic in GW1. I WOULD like some suicide minions though, but I can totally wait until they get that fixed. Looks like I will give necromancer a whirl. My elementalist is fun but I’ve recently gotten into playing anti-heros, which the necromancer is perfect for.

Just remember that you can always mix it up . Just because it’s not optimal to use a minion skill, doesn’t mean you can’t make it effective. If you want suicide minions, slot the Bone Minions skill, and blow them up in your wells for nice combo finishers. Can’t get much more suicide than that!

I made a necromancer and I didn’t want to be be like all the other necromancers by having minions or condition stacking build. So I used the well siphoning build; by having well of blood (healing skill), well of suffering, well of corruption, and well of darkness. I also run with dual daggers.
By casting well of suffering, well of corruption, and enfeebling blood(off-hand dagger 5th skill) I can easily take out a mob. With Vampiric Rituals and Bloodthirst traits in blood magic trait line the wells I cast siphon health which helps my necromancer become somewhat tanky because I can take on mob and walk away with full health. The only thing I would like Arenanet to change would be to change to auto attack for the dagger on necromancers, so it will be a range attack instead of melee.

I love the auto-attack of the dagger. It’s visceral and bloody, and with our high hp pools, it’s generally safe to melee.
I’m D/D or S/D, with Staff on the side. Rock the well-targeting/improved marks/buffed vampiric traits/Fear biz. For utilities, I generally go 2 Wells/BiP or a Spectral. Elite’s Plague or Reaper of Grenth. What’s a Minion?

Why D/D instead of S/D because when I try dagger…getting so close will get me killed faster at times and I like sceptor because of the extra bleed damage and then the enfeebling blood…mobs die pretty fast without me having to kite too much.
