Idea for well of darkness.
To make enemies chilled again all you’ve got to do is un-nerf our trait for it. That was a very fun build while it lasted.
I had a couple of ideas. Ranked in order of which I’d prefer.
(1). Change field interactions
Well of blood (which is bad) would be a lot better if necromancers had better finisher access. (100% finisher on staff 1, blast on axe 3, etc), but….
field interactions with well of darkness are wonky (what is the point of blasting blind to get blind?). (What is the point of whirling through well of darkness if the effect doesn’t do anything?)
Anet might want to look at how poor dark field interactions are, unless the whole point of dark fields is “powerful skills but they overwrite your better fields.”.
Better dark field + reasonable access to finishers = probably an ok skill
(2) Zero cast time. The ability to safe stomp some classes (not really) is the only reason why this was ever taken. Anet might want to tweak this into the necromancer version of take this skill to get a safe stomp.
(3). Merge it with well of power. One skill does both things.
(4). Make it apply chill on pulse, like it used to do when Traited.
(5) Add damage. Well of corruption level damage is good enough.
(6). Make it a well for condition users, have it inflict damaging conditions.
Or just reduce cool down to 25 s ? For what it does is long enough as a cool down. I never understood that it has a 50 s cool down.

It’s so kittening annoying that anet nerfed it purely because of WvW zerging. A split for wvw and pve would have been fine.
Only thing it needs is to have its cooldown reduced to about half of what it is now.
Well of darkness in its current state on its current CD indeed sucks.
Simplest improvements would be to add some base pulsing power damage to it + apply some condi per pulse in addition to the blind.
If they leave it as it is, I will not run it even if they half the CD on it. They would have to reduce the CD to like 10-12 seconds for about 40%+ ish area blindness uptime in order for it to be worth the slot. Reducing the CD by 50% is still no where near enough as it is an area on the ground which can too easily be sidestepped, dodged, etc.
Cooldown needs to be reduced if Well of Darkness is going to keep its current functionality.
Maybe if we want to get crazy, it can stay at 50sec and have it act like Ring of Warding while blinding foes caught inside and keeping enemy allies out.
