Is Hybrid our new thing or Meta ?
Servant of Dhuum
Recently(the few time I’m online) I’ve been trying in PVP some hybrid build too, and despite it has not the best condition or direct damage output, it still deals fair amount of damages retaining anyway some kind of sustain.
Something like this:

Runes of Strenght help a lot.
Maybe Hybrid can become the new way to go.

Yea atm I go 6-4-0-0-4 taking the Fear-traits and still specking Power, also have Strength runes and yes it helps alot. Going for Reapers Might aswell in Spite, I miss Shrouded Removal but since I use Bothe Dagger offhand and Staff I feel I have enough cleanse anyway. Terror ticks for 850+ and u still hit hard.

After feature pack 9/10 players go Condi in WvW and sPvP
…and then really messed with Power builds due to Ferocity and even runes change.
I can’t say for sure about WvW, but in sPvP there’s currently a heavy power dominance accross most classes.
If anything the last patch buffed power builds with the runes and sigil changes.
Anyway, imo hybrid necros always had better potential than pure condi builds, but it was never meta and it probably never will. It’s just easier to max out your stats on either end, rather than to find a balance for both that works.

In WvW Condis dominate, specially among the classes I mentioned and I feel its more equal in sPvP but not imo that Power dominates maybe we just had diffrence experience there. I just feel now that its more viable for a Hybrid build. tnx for responses tho

What….. bro do you even wvw? Condi for roaming builds and small havoc groups only. Power is more effective in wvw.

I doubt we’ve had different experiences in WvW since we’re on the same server, perhaps it’s a matter of perception.
In sPvP I feel there has been a slight increase of Strength rune users over the past weeks, mostly warriors and eles, while the amount of condi builds pretty much stayed the same.

Yes I do only WvW and PvP since release, and in big Warbands its both Power and Condi builds, I know I run in a hardcore Guild have done so since release. In Zergs many run Power builds I just dont count that, its a skill-less, spamming concept that I do not count in. EB is were skill goes to die
Small scale, roaming, and ofc 1v1 situation 9/10 go Condi these days if u argue that u have not spent anytime in WvW lately. More constructive comments plz

WvW is heavily pushed toward Power builds. Like previously mentioned, only roamers or havok take conditions. In a zerg setting, conditions are pretty much useless. Not completely, but pretty much. But in any case, why wouldn’t you run wells in WvW. AOE spike too good. It’s like the one thing in this game we excel at (besides being focused).
More constructive? How about don’t be a kitten and try fighting outnumbered, our guild actively looks for the maguuma and sos blobs. We don’t just run away we try to fight them with whatever we have 10-20. Hit disengage, rinse and repeat and somehow I manage to do this on a POWER necro.

Skill doesn’t die in WvW. And if you are playing properly open field is just a small piece of overall strategy. I’m not attacking you, but WvW is very different from the rest of the game. Completely disregarding the fact that you need to know seige tactics, open field tactics require certain compositions. This is true of every class.
Just because you feel pigeon holed doesn’t mean that you are playing brain dead. Planning, tactics, positioning, and composition are major skill sets that you need in WvW. I would argue they are much more necessary in this game type than any other. Accounting for travel time, enemy position, supply, siege presence, siege range, objective timers, upgrade timers, zerg composition I would say WvW takes the most skill to be the best at and BY FAR the most coordination.
A well oiled guild group can consistently beat zergs +25% bigger than them if they are fighting an unorganized group. That exemplifies my point that individual skill isn’t as relevant but leadership and situational awareness makes or breaks a zerg. So while it isn’t the same TYPE of skill it is still the same AMOUNT (if not more) of skill.
Skill doesn’t die in WvW.
Didnt say WvW said EB, read first.. post later

For Hybrid builds i’m skeptic enough about the Scepter… its damage output is really terrible…
Hybrid builds aren’t new at all, they’ve been around for ages. They aren’t as popular because specialization makes things much more simple, in building, playing, and fitting yourself into a team, plus damage types tend to multiply with themselves far better than trying to have a lot of both will.

try this one non scepter hybrid: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAnYGjc00YbnNs3moWQks4NIjEI2SnA-TVSFABAcCAe4QAUwDAoPlgTq+DO7PUlyP80HAxRAgUAXsMC-w
I do not understand how a necro can dislike conditions when it is responsible for a large part of our damage. A top player cannot afford to trim performance for philosophical reasons. Hybrid builds are optimized for dps at the expense of defense and CC. If you can win that way, do it.

It’s not that bad, but I’m sticking with Foot In The Grave and Path of Corruption in PVP.
I’m gonna give it a try, but can’t say without ascended gear how it can go.
Does anyone have something to share about Hybrid builds?
Im trying something like..

I’d say that FITG isn’t that nice without massive Boon Duration stats… There’s still a window for getting interrupted during a ShroudStomp.

Can you heal within death shroud (even when you really need it) yet?

While normally true, I think necro is a special case because a lot of our ability and trait design intertwine the two. Though admittedly, I haven’t done the math. Dagger 1 spam as power is probably more DPS than most things we can do.

The issue is how things stack. More condition output means your conditions stick longer as you overwhelm their removals, more direct damage comes through stats that have a lot of innate multipliers. Unfortunately Necromancers don’t have the innate defenses to be able to focus on damage well enough to hybrid (like eles can), or the innate offense to stat up on defense.
Hybrids can be good, but generally in PvE where things work out better for us.
I’ve noticed most of the builds posted here have been celestial. Have any of you tried them with zerker, or valkyrie, or even rampager gear?
When I think of hybrid necros I’m mostly thinking ones that focus on disabling conditions to mitigate their target’s damage and stop them from getting away. In this setup the bulk of the damage would still come from direct attacks, and I’m not sure celestial provides enough power for that. After all you want the poison for the healing reduction, and chilled and immobilised doesn’t have care about your condition damage at all. I can see the point of celestial if you’re going for dhuumfure, even though fire does decent damage even without much condition damage.
snip
A build that does all of its damage via direct damage is just a power build. Hybrid is specific to dealing mixed damage types. So generally celestial is the go-to for other professions, especially ones that stack might, because it gives you more stats and you can supplement your damage anyway.
You are either too squishy or don’t have enough pressure in hybrid builds in PvP situations right now. Unlike other professions we don’t have the innate ability to boost our own stats well enough to go hybrid right now.

I dislike Condi mostly cause its ALL i literally see when Iam out roaming around the Borders these days, yes I see and play Power-Well build with my Guild and when u face Good Guilds ( those guilds dont hide in EB btw hence my remark about EB) however off-hours so to speak when I solo or smallscale Condi is 9/10 players u face and its boring. soooooo Boring and so easy.
Iam looking for diffrent something that requires abit more finess and a challenge and I dont wanna play anything else then Nec. a pure power Nec has vey limited ways of surviving past 1st enemy while a Hybrid may actually take on few more.
This is my reason for post, we dont excell anymore at either of the 2 ways of dmg, and yes we at one time did. But maybe just maybe by combineing Condi + Power we can. Plz dont argue that Power Well Builds dominate WvW scene, ofc it does when u backed up by 15-25 allies but the 1 of u that argues that that same Wellomancer can fight Solo vs good roamers just dont play Nec.
Mainly Iam looking for some build maybe thats an update to Nemesis old Hybrid, and I absolutely dont wanna use Scepter… Dagger MH needs to stay.
I basicly looking for a good Counter to Condi Builds
In the Current Iam useing the Terror traits with Power armor and Str Runes with Condi Trinkets and its sofar excellent vs both Power and Condi targets.

You know what I love about necros, you don’t see meta thrown around like every ther class as much. Some one might call there’ new build’ meta but they are just blowing there own horn, necros here are all over the board. I love it.
