Is Juggermancer still viable?
I think the big problem with a tanky power style build is how heavily nerfed Retaliation was. At 50% effectiveness in WvW now, it is more of an annoyance than a danger anymore.
There were some nice trait changes recently, but I am not sure how well they really tie in to being tankier in general, as siphon is still very weak. Both spectral walk and spectral armor go well with that build now, and wells have shorter cooldowns… so I would say it is still reasonably viable in WvW.
I play it and it still works well.
Just play 20/0/20/30/0 Bunker MM. :P Its sooo fun.

I totally agree.
I run the same build > http://tinyurl.com/bjne78d and I find my self op ( which I love it :P ).
After the minions buff ( regen ) , you won’t worry about re-summon them every battle
guard ,nades eng ,Trap thief \ranger ,signet\shout warrior, zerk mes\ele & shiro rev.
A full soldier gear set makes the necromancer very hard to kill and still allows it to hit like a truck with dagger main hand!
Plus, it can be used on many different builds: Spectral and MM being my favorites on this gear set.
I haven’t run it since the patch, but…
Think about how much power a juggermancer generally has. Think about the new SR grandmaster trait where you get +50% crit chance while in Death Shroud. Now consider how long a fully soldier-geared necromancer can stay in Death Shroud due to their high vitality and toughness (and imagine tossing in some spectral utilities…). Then figure in the 30% critical damage you’d get for going 30 points deep into SR…
That requires a different trait set up than the basic Juggermancer, but it seems like it could be pretty neat.
Yeah, the primary aspect of the juggermancer is the full soldier gear. The traits and utilities are optional and you can just change them around based on your needs as the primary difficulty of making a solider necromancer is getting the gear.
The thing is, with 30k+ health with kitten load of toughness and power, there is no doubt about the viability of a full soldier gear set. What build variety you want to come up with it, is up to you.

considering the juggermancer build has what? 4% crit chance…
the extra 2% crit sounds pretty underwhelming but I haven’t tried it so maybe its just amazing. Let us know how that works out for you.

The 50% crit chance of Deathly Perception is additive, not multiplicative.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

thats odd then, I wonder why I am getting non crits in DS when I should have 100% crit chance.

Testing in the mists shows Deathly Perception to be additive.
If you aren’t getting crits at 100% chance it can be 1 of 2 things, you were affected by weakness or there’s a hidden maximum crit chance in the game.
As for Soldier gear, for WvW and PvE, I always found going burst power had more survivability since dead things tend to not kill you.
I’m omitting 1vX of course, but I don’t think the soldier would be enough to keep us alive in those situations often enough to offset the loss in damage I’d take.
I’ve read that even with 100% crit there is still a small chance that you will not crit, but I’ve never run zerk or anything so I’m far from any authority on it. In my soldiers build I can tell you that life blast crits around half the time with only a base 4% crit chance.
Although I had a blast on my condition build, when the update came out I knew a lot of necros would be maxing spite making the bleed cap problem even worse. That’s when I decided to try out a different build. I have a soldier’s build with 30/0/10/0/30, d/d and staff. WvW is where I have seem the biggest difference, with people going down fairly easily.
Not sure if this is universal, but I’ve noticed since downing more people in 1v2s I really have a hard problem killing them. I’ll down 1 person like 2 or 3 times and the other person will always revive them. Is Foot in the Grave the only way to handle these encounters? I’m currently in love with Deathly Perception so idk if I could part with it. Could just be I need more practice with the build.
