I keep playing mine because it’s fun. I haven’t run into an instance yet where I can’t accomplish the goal I set out for. Due to the nature of this game being (outside of PvP) friendly instead of competitive I don’t feel pressure to play another character as my “main”. However, it would be nice if the bugs were fixed.

If you haven’t maxed him out and dumped money and gear into him, then broom him fast. Jon Peters has already stated that are too scared of our power as it is to want to change anything. LMAO!!!

If you like the style and mechanics of the Necro, you should stick with it. ANET has traditionally been fairly decent at balancing.

Judging from Jon Peters’ replies AN might hate the Necromancer as much as Blizzard hates the Druid.

If you haven’t invested too much time or gold in your Necromancer, rerolling is likely a good decision.

Meh, nothing Peters’ said it inaccurate. He agrees that we need more build diversity and bug fixes, which are the two biggest issues at the moment.

He essentially said “l2play”; supposedly the players aren’t using DS properly and he’s afraid of what powerhouses Necromancers will become once they do. Which is juvenile domesticated cat.

The only proper response is “l2design”.

No, he essentially said “Its too early to make huge changes, but we know that making power builds more viable and fixing bugged skills/abilities needs to happen. DS is also pretty powerful and we’d like to see how the data looks with more time”.

Nope. Guess I’ll have to quote him directly if you’re going to play that game.

Keep in mind that some professions are harder to master than others. I believe Necro is the hardest, opinions may vary, but just keep this in mind. No we arent ignoring Necro, but once people start mastering DS, I’m afraid of how strong Necro will be. Give it some time for the average player to learn these things. For example early on in LOL master yi was dominant until people learned how to counter him.

as well as

What I would like to try and do is increase build diversity without increasing effectiveness because I don’t believe we have really seen what strong Necromancers can do yet.

You basically just quoted the same thing I said…

First post = DS is strong, give it more time

Second post = Power builds more viable

Not really rose-tinted, but someone that has played these type of games long enough to not only comprehend that a dev says, but also realize when something is truly UP vs. when you just get a bunch of kids whining.

You also only partially quoted his post. Perhaps it was quoted to you and you didn’t see the whole thing:

“In the current condition heavy meta-game, there is a lot of condition removal. The problem this is causing for Necromancers is that they do not have a lot of build diversity in this meta, because they don’t have any great power builds they can turn to. What I would like to try and do is increase build diversity without increasing effectiveness because I don’t believe we have really seen what strong Necromancers can do yet.”

If you don’t read that quote and realize that they want to make power-focused builds more viable, then I guess we can just agree to disagree.

If you enjoy the class, its mechanics and skills then you should continue regardless. Necromancer was the class of my choice because I like the idea of death magic, siphon and dark arts and I still don’t regret my decision. Sure there are many bugged traits and skills, and the minion are dumb but eventually it will be changed regardless, somethings cannot be ignored and I believe Anet will address them (specially minions). Once these are fixed I believe the Necro will become pretty strong, I’m no expert but I’m usually a top player in sPvP with the broken traits now imagine when they actually work.

So in the end ask yourself if you enjoy the theme and the way the profession plays more than others, if you do then you might want to stick with it.

I couldn’t agree more.

how a class could make it this far with SO many glaring bugs along with getting brutally marginalized after BW2 or 3 is mind boggling.

to not see a single bug fix for the necro over the last patches while other classes with no performance issues are constantly getting attention. necro is the red headed stepchild of GW2 (and every MMO has one) and it wont change anytime soon.

expect to be able to play a “fixed” necro when the first expansion comes out. thats just how it goes with mmo’s there is always a class at the bottom of the heap and DS is as good a reason as any to keep the necro there.

arena net has done such a great job with everything else I find it hard to believe they didnt kitteny cat this up on purpose, the scope of the BW nerfs and broken class mechanics are so huge.

This is a game. Games equal having fun. If you are having fun, stick to that path. If you are not having fun, change your path. Don’t be a sheep.

I think i will stick with my Necro for the pure fact of i am having fun, I just pray they are fixed and if not i will learn how to make the most of it.

As for what Jon Peters said I think both sides of view are right, The game is weeks old and people haven’t had a real time to learn and utilise Necro ( and probably every class) Yes their are favoured builds out there but give it a few weeks and someone could find a new build that works better but at the same time there is a lot of necessary work needed on Necro’s

by all means, reroll now. dont waste a single more second on a soon to be dead class, unless you feel some kind of twisted pleasure in being a unique snowflake…in that case the necro is custom tailored to you, because sooner rather than later everybody will abandon their necros

Theorgen: Good, it really is that simple. It’s a game. If you are having fun with the necro, then keep playing.
If you are not, then don’t.

The devs have to balance cautiously. Thieves went from almost everyone saying they were underpowered in beta to almost everyone saying they were overpowered upon release in the blink of an eye.

Eventually, things will get pretty well balanced, although admittedly it might take a long time. So play if you enjoy it and not otherwise.

Also, if you have been on other official MMO forums, you will realize that they are cry-baby whine-fests. Seriously, people exaggerate the faults of professions to the point of absurdity. It is partially because they want a buff (or, if they are playing an overpowered job, to avoid a nerf) so it is in their best interest to downplay any effectiveness of a class/job/profession. In addition to this, you get the natural tendency of people to attribute any failure that occurs while they play to the profession and not their own experience and/or abilities. Unfortunately, all of this combines to result in the whine-fest you currently see in the necro forum. Some might be serious, but many complaints should not be taken at face value, especially ones that act like necros are only 1/10 as effective as other professions or other ridiculous claims.

P.S.: Yes, there are bugs. The game was just released. This is perfectly normal. Give it time. Trust me, I have played almost all of the recent MMOs, and GW2 is relatively stable and bug-free.

This is a good example of the sort of post I was talking about.

Konrad (hopefully!) doesn’t really believe that “sooner of later everybody will abandon their necros” (unless he is just talking about when you stop playing the game, in which case it would be true for any profession.)

My guess is that he likes the profession but wants buffs now and so is purposefully going into ridiculous hyperbole.

My advice to him would be that arguments are more persuasive when they are more concrete and down-to-earth. i.e., less hyperbole might help him accomplish his goals more. Maybe just choose one or two specific things he wants buffed/fixed, and just keep mentioning those in a rational manner with examples.
