Guild Wars 2

The rules: No traits. No skills. Only white gear. No help from other players as much as possible. Most importantly no deaths.

The two professions I’ve considered to attempt leveling to 80 under ironman rules are warrior and necro. There may be others that would work but war/necro are the only two that interest me.

This is where you come in. I need your help deciding which weapons to use and your opinion on whether or not you think it will be possible. My experience with a necro is pretty limited but from what ive seen they are a very survivable class with ranged attacks and high base health.

Looking for some thoughts on weapons to use and the general strengths and weaknesses of the class.

The short answer is yes.

Necros have the advantage of being able to perma-swift (War Horn #5 + Spectral Walk+traits) so as soon as you’re able to do so, do it and just tag all the vistas, POI and Waypoints. Then, gather all the materials and start crafting. I’m about 80% map completion and I have not encountered any creatures that can outrun me except in one area where they cripple me.

As for weapon, staff is the most likely candidate for this sort of thing simply due to the range it provides and skills #3 and #5. If you’re running around and want to lose the trail of mobs following you, casting #3 will AoE chill them and casting #5 will inflict fear.

I forgot to mention that gathering/crafting won’t be possible either.

What do you mean by ‘no skills’. No utilities?

Any ranged class with kiting abilities will be just fine.

As long as you don’t mind kiting a lot, hardmode necro can be done. We have access to a lot of chills & cripples using just weapons: Scepter, OH Dagger, Horn, Staff…

At least, hardcore ranger is viable, lol

The short answer is no. A warrior/ranger/guardian would be much easier. Reasons:
-No escapes
-No mobility outside of warhorn swiftness
-No invulnerability
-Very low amount of CC, exactly 1 immobilize (on a weapon you won’t be using)
-Pathetic damage (Even with traits/gear all damage comes from utilities)

Are you planning to do this without a healing skill?

Then the answer is: not really. Ranger seems to be the best way to do it. Pet tank, you shoot.

If you’re gonna play hardcore, at least push it to the max.

- No armour, at all.
- When you die, instantly delete your character and all existing items.

It is very viable, I found running around with a dagger to be fairly safe because of the high health we have. However, if you are a kitten, pick up staff and scepter/warhorn(dagger) for survivability/kiting.
