I was thinking about making a necro but not a big fan of pets, which is the reason I never made a ranger. Is there a such thing as a necro build absent pets ( minions ) that is viable in pve ?

Also do necro’s have any type of stability ? or does that come in later by way of traits ?

Erm, not sure what you mean since MM is honestly one of the LEAST popular necro builds and not all that affective, so I guess the answer would be yes. DS power builds and Condition builds are rather viable.

I think you know what I mean since you answered the question lol. The question was pretty straight forward and simple to comprehend.

With that said, thanks for the reply and answering the question. As far as MM not being very popular, every time I see a necromancer I see a bunch of minions following them so this is why I thought minions were the preferred build for necromancers.

Since necro’s can roll without minions, I’m in.

I have three level 80’s in full exotics so I’ve been looking for a knew class to level. Tried the elementalist. Not to fond of that class.

The reason I said I’m not sure what you mean, is because, most players who’ve been around for a few months was affected by or at least heard the uproar over Condition Necros and their sheer OP reign they had going on. I wasn’t sure if you meant totally minionless BECAUSE technically in most cases Flesh Golem is the best Elite to run with, which does make you “have a minion”. However, it’s not MM. Also if you’re power Lich Form can be good, but if you go conditions I wouldn’t really use plague in pve. The damage isn’t that great. Fleshy is better.

In PvE minions are the most common build for levelling and walking around, which is why you seem them that way. But (at least until this new patch) they are far from the most popular for dungeoning.

Not really. Only their actives (Putrid Explosion, Charge, Haunt) deal AoE damage, and Death Nova, otherwise the majority of their damage is single target. They are just really nice for tanking mobs and grouping them for you to AoE with other skills, and the added damage isn’t bad.

But overall they have less AoE than a condition build, although yes more than non-DS (cleave) power builds.

MM not being effective?! Thats so false. With my healing MM build I can pretty much solo the whole map without any problems. Anyway, necros are fantastic at AoE damage.. you just have to learn to play the conditionmancer (and Epidemic skill) right.

I strongly recommend the Flesh Golem as an Elite especially if you going solo.

The only minion I use regularly is Flesh Golem. The others just aren’t worth a slot on my bar.

There are lots of effective ways to build a necro without using minions at all.

Context is everything. That was in reference to minions, not Necros.

It’s possible that you see a lot more necros than you recognize, but mistake them for mesmers or eles. Only definite ways to tell someone is a necro running around (not activating skills) is if they have the minions out or are glowing green/shrouded in black.

Does reanimator count ? If so then I’m a minion master.

Amazing pve an pvp guides for a necro. Neither include pets of any kind really. I run around with a flesh golem but if he’s on cooldown it’s a small matter to me, hes really just a knockdown bot.

To answer your last question first, the only stability that Necros have access to is via the elite skill: Plague, and the Soul Reaping grandmaster trait: Foot in the Grave. The elite skill: Lich Form also grants stability I believe.

My level 45 Necro runs with no minions, not even a flesh golem, and I do fine. I use signets and plague form for my elite. Necros are fun and versatile.

You don’t need to focus on minions ever, they are sometimes nice utilities and flesh golem is simply generally most useful elite. Rest of necro elites are transforms which stop you from using your useful skills. Think of casting moa morph on yourself. Very useful.

I found this 100% Heal build on www.gw2build.com & am enjoying it alot. You just have 1 little minature temporary Jagged Horror every time u make a kill but its only the size of a vanity pet & its waaaay cute ^^
The build is very tanky too & wouldnt take a whole lot of tweekin to build it Control.

I use MM in tpvp, great build. But in pve.. minions react too slow, dies too fast, not worth it.

Yeah, necros with minions are also just easier to notice. You could just be missing all the ones that don’t have them.
