So yeah we all heard about the DS nerf and how big hits go through DS and hit your normal health pool. The only reason I can see is they want to buff siphons but they still have this fear of healing through DS and absorbing multiple big hits and having little effect on the necro’s normal health pool, so by doing this they may buff siphons and allow healing through DS. By heals I mean regen, siphons (that aren’t a kitten 30 per hit), and other heals (guardian staff #4 for example)

The scenario (in PvP, since that’s what their balance is focused on ) I think they fear with pre-nerf DS and really good siphons is kind of like this:

*Necro starts with no LF at start of match
*War jumps necro with bull’s charge, necro having little stability and little to no LF isn’t gonna get out of that easily
*War proceeds to 100b necro, necro loses 25-50% of his life
*Necro kites War, gets a good chunk of health back with heal and several siphons, generates a decent amount of LF (enough to go into DS)
*War lands Eviscerate, deals about 7k+ damage, does nothing to necro’s normal health because of DS
*War’s burst is on CD, and it is as if the Necro barely took a hit

Since there was a bug with the damage we took in DS that was fixed, I think this change to DS was to make way for better/new BM and maybe DM traits so that even if some classes burst manages to eat through DS, we can siphon/regen enough in DS to take the damage that pours out of it.

In my opinion, this paves the way for more things like SA+DS (which is basically an invuln to damage), and also more healing/LF in general.

Seems to be paving the way for the mass necro exodus of 2013 so far. I’ve even given up hope for a minor boost to siphoning at this point. What we need in order to fix the class is a mechanism to make players not want to get close to us or to get stronger as they weaken, you know like a REAL attrition class should be.

Maybe you’re right, but my expectation isn’t too unrealistic either. The DM and BM trait lines are full of useless traits that don’t do enough to be worth it, or just don’t belong in said line. They would have to rework A LOT of things, and I doubt they would roll out so few changes (2 for mesmer lol) to some classes and then give 20+ changes to necro. They’ve already stated they don’t want massive changes right before their big tournament, so this could possibly be paving the way for the next patch.

So you are basing this not on the past 1 year full of nerf with meager buffs that were all nerfed shorty after. Not on the fact that even something as you said meager as greater marks and more or less required to use staff in pvp getting tossed to 20 trait line that you neither have any business in when it comes to pvp or you can’t waste points in it if you want minions… Then what?
We had those same useless skills since beta. Nothing changed. Nada. They gave some … laughable for lack of better word buff to vampiric. Dump all your stats for healing only to get what was it 6 extra hp?

The only thing it paves way for is more separation. Guardians getting more buffs… they were in such a horrid shape they REALLY needed it.
Thiefs were again in horrid shape so they got “debatable” fixes.
And so on…
Hell rangers got invisibility… tho as far as that is concerned im happy they made fun change.
Necros…. got nerfed across the board. Ds now absorbing meagerly more direct damage if you have lf to spare… No matter how I look at it… its a nerf. In zerg you will get splatared. Mitigating burst with it… nothing changed. It will still get ripped off… and now you can’t mitigate anything if you don’t have lf. No you can’t eat that 10k backstab from a thief because you can’t generate lf when there is nothing to generate it on.
Spectral walk and armor also got nerfed into oblivion. Are they still usable for dueling… yeah sure… so what? Dueling is…. the most insignificant part of what they made pvp into here. Those two can neither generate enough lf for you to maintain ds for more then 3 seconds under group fire. Nor do they provide some amazing survavability. They sitll some of the longest stun breaks in game. Past the kittenty signet. And anything else we have that comes with a wonderful 9/10 times it will fail because targeting mechanics are garbage.

Example? Kay… played 10 tournies in a row. While I won 8… in all 10. My corrupt boon haven’t worked a single kittening time.

And yet people think nerfs lead to buffs… we so far barely ever got fixes. Which almost always came with more bugs then they fixed. The few buffs we did get all followed by a nerf.
