Kinda got that icky vibe reading his comments about Necro’s being fine this week. It was like flashbacks to spring and the various early Dev comments on the D3 forums. And in reality I don’t care what they do to Necro’s.

I’m more erked by the nature of the conversation and the attitude it implied. The way, some, developers have this tunnel vision of their product and because of it fail to actually in any way grasp how things are actually working. And thus auto-patronize their language when speaking in a defensive measure to protect their “vision” rather than the reality around them.

So Jon….“should I be thankful” for how Necro’s currently work???

Yeah, I’m actually still in shock after reading that one. I can’t belive a developer from Anet is that short sighted as to be patronizing to the whole necro community .. he basically said “necro’s are hard to play, if you’re not doing well with the necro it’s because you haven’t mastered Death Shroud yet.” Or basically “l2p, necros are fine”

What kind of unprofessional attitude is that? Anet, I’m deeply dissapointed in you.

How about you read the second page as well, I hate it when people only mention half a discussion omitting certain information is never good.

That changes nothing…

The first comment is talking about the general balance of the necro.

His second comment is regarding changing a specific point with the necro.

Changing death shroud to show boons and conditions is not going to fix most issues.

The amount of bugs Necro has with its traits and skills is mind boggling. I think as a class its probably the worst, once the class is working as intended then and only then can we see the true state at which the Necro is at.

Then we pray Anet do something to fix it if needed.

At the top of this very forum there is a huge post detailing the amount of bugs and they intended to start fixing these within the week apparently.

He’s not saying he won’t buff necro, he’s saying that death shroud is INCREDIBLY strong in the sense of [theoretical] potential.

in [thoery] he’s right in his points that:
-Death shroud gives access to a second health bar that can be recovered by normal combat along your already recoverable health bar
-Death shroud gives access to an essentially third weapon set (giving more diversity than warriors in many ways)
*this point bothers me though when elementalists have access to summon weapons and engineers have kits.
-He wants to see how the meta shifts
*this point is extremely valid. In Dota/LoL/any moba, the meta has a massive effect on a character’s strength. He did however say that he wanted to make necromancers less reliant on condition damage.

All and all the necromancer suffers from a lot of bugs and meta, He’s being smart and waiting to see if changes are needed once bugs are fixed.

He also mentions that he wants to give Necro’s better options for power builds, which are really (aside from bugged traits/abilities that most professions have) the only major issue we have.

Changing death shroud to show boons and conditions is not going to fix most issues.

The second point he specifically mentions that Necro’s need more build options, specifically focused on power.

The only real issue? .. How about a viable MM build? .. how about sub par damage on 80% of our skills? .. how about lowest running fear in the game, despite being told pre launch that fear was a necro unique condition? Yeah right . .

The real issue is that we are not diverse, which he somewhat touches on in the second post. Frankly I love necromancer, have in every game I’ve played all the way back to D&D. I made a necro on day 1 of GW1 and still play him to this day. I made a necro on day 1 in GW2 and have just felt pigeon holed.

I don’t want to be a conditionmancer all the time! Give me some other viability without making me feel sub-par. DS I agree can be very powerful (if a bit out of place or limited in a few fashions), but give me some more functional options for crying out loud.

Oh, and make Jagged Horrors useful (biggest pet peeve of mine right now)

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

The class has a steep learning curve with that I agree. However, I like complex classes because they are rewarding. Nevertheless often it is not about a “learning curve” but about a cumbersome class which is often so easily countered that it is not even funny anymore.

E.g. Death Shroud (snare the necro & run off or simply LoS). If you start to drain life you eat a knockdown.

Your minions? No problem: a mesmer just transforms you in a bird and your minions are gone and you cannot recast them becuase of their long CDs making MM builds next to useless.
In WvWvW just pull the minions into the waiting mob of friends which kills the minions in 2 sec flat. Again: too bad that the necromancer cannot call them back nor put them in a passive mode

Even the environment counters Necromancers. Heck, which necro with minions enters water voluntarily?
I mean your flesh golem is gone in an instant and your only elite skill you can use is pestilence cloud…which dispels all your other pets as well (brilliant game design btw. But I guess this all was necessary to counter the OPness of the necros).

Ok, so back to conditional builds. Too bad that other classes are much better in spreading suffering and sorrow than the “master of the dead” /chuckle

He also said he wants to increase build diversity without increasing effectiveness, which is a completely baffling statement. How do you create build diversity if the builds are still ineffective? I mean, in actuality we have a ton build diversity, the problem is only one of them is effective.

You guys are taking things way out of context. I’m pretty sure it was mostly addressed at the whine/less constructive posts. You know the same ones complaining about 100b and Heartseeker in the most vocal ways? Those guys that clearly need to L2P.

Our bugs have been brought to attention and no one knows just how much better we’d be even before balancing changes after all the bugs get ironed out. Not to mention the increase in diversity is what most wanted the most yeah? That clearly got through too.

He makes quite a valid point. Some people, even today, still wrongly believe that champions like Master Yi and (original) Evelynn are OP. When, in reality, they’re just strong against weak/unskilled players, and terrible against anybody who knows what they’re doing.
This exact same thing can be applied to what little meta there currently is for GW2 PvP, specifically in regards to popular builds and how combat mechanics work (this game’s mechanics are more akin to an MOBA than a proper MMO). That being said, of course, hopefully it’s the case that every profession has ways to be powerful in the hands of skilled players, when played against other skilled players.

I hope you haven’t forgotten my role in this little story. I’m the leading man.
You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.

In theory he does have a point that DS offers the biggest diversity with no sacrifice. And yes second hp bar with much more easily renewed resource is a good idea.
In reality DS is welfare oh-kitten button. Nothing more. Even the regular run of the mill 100b spammer or heartseeker spammer can chew through a fully specced DS in a matter of seconds. A good warrior can literally blow you out of your DS before you can even use fear button.
Also skills in DS underwater are utter disgrace and skills on land…. while better still mostly either welfare or make no sense. Teleport to target as ranged?… in light armor? What that? A suicide attack? Also fear…. 3 second fear for thief and warrior… we have 1 second. On ALL of ours. And that is our one and only CC we have regardless of spec.

If you can’t get your fear off before your entire life force pool is off you are just bad. By the time my abilities even show up in that form which is almost instantly by the way, my fear shows on cd, because you can cast it while transition into it. and yes if you stay in that form your life force pool can be melted rather quickly, however if you pop in while hitting 3 you get an instant fear, hit 4 and drain the life from them, 2 to chill them and put yourself on top of them, pop out and go back to using your other abilities, you essentionally have 3 extra skills constantly at your disposal.

Absolute denial is the only thing that makes any sense. No offense to this developer or any Gw2 developer but his statements were frankly ridiculous.

I’ll be rerolling a warrior until they decide that this class needs serious rework and isn’t balanced at all. Death shroud is a joke.

If we’re supposed to spend half our time in a form with 4 skills 2 of which are a joke unles trained, yes, this class is screwed at the core. If we’re supposed to learn how to properly use a 1 sec fear and a teleport to our enemy skill, someplace that normally just gets us killed faster, I don’t know what to say.

I just rerolled a mesmer until Anet wakes up from their development state of denial " necro’s may be weak but they have DS! So we have to make them weaker than other classes b******"

I’m having a good time w mesmer, their skills at least seems like they were designed to be synergetic, and there is better flow to the combat. And the damage may not be warrior high but it’s at least good. You kill things way faster than necro’s do at any rate.
