Heya! I am looking for a viable PvE/WvW scepter based build that is no pure condition damage build. I often see that purely condition based builds are extremely week when it comes to structures or burst damage, so I need something like Zintair’s build ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/WvW-Critmancer-Build-Power-Condition/first ) with a lot more focus on using the scepter.

Why? Well, I like the scepter and its’ skills and I love the offhand dagger in combination with that. I also plan to get Meteorlogicus because Bifrost just looks stupid.

I thought about something where you use your scepter like 80% of the time and only switch to staff for…more range or something.

Any ideas will make me a happy man

It depends on your playstyle. Mainly, will you be using DS offensively to stack might and increase condition damage? Or, will you use it as the “oh crap” defense mechanism?

While using the scepter it is hard to build LF.
So I would recommend using a dagger or axe for an offhand unless you want 20 points in soul reaping for marks regenerate LF.

Maybe try a 0/30/25/0/15 build or a 0/30/20/20 build with staff. You can use knights gear with undead runes if you want some extra condition damage. Run all three wells for some nice AOE with staff/wells and then you can use scepter/dagger for single target stuff. The build will give you great versatility but wouldn’t be ideal for 1v1 stuff.

I would go 10/25/25/0/10
Grabbing Reaper’s Might, Reaper’s Precision, Focused Rituals, Greater Marks/Staff Mastery (your choice), Reaper’s Protection, and Spectral Mastery.
Rampager Accessories, PVT Armor either with soldier jewels on your armor or runes of the undead for more condi dmg and toughness.

My “scepter based condition spec” until now was http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQUQNArYWjMat7pbOb8bKipCZDSx77V0DiZskRVYdA but it lacks the ability to burst. It’s a pure scepter/dagger-spec with no possibility to actually hit the crap out of something. If your enemy loses your conditions or if you have to attack structures (think of CoE), you’re pretty much kittened up.

For Torqky’s builds: I don’t really get that spec. I’d prefer to go for the 0/30/20/0/20 variant as I dislike uneven numbers in traits, but I don’t exactly get that spec. Can you clarify a bit?

For Dylninja’s build: I’m unsure whether a condition spec based on using the scepter is viable without 30 in curses. Could you also clarify a bit about the playstyle of that build?

Well why do you need 30 in curses for your build? so scepter conditions last longer? Meh. You can get the extra 50 points on condition damage from elsewhere.
You take 25 in toughness for the added 5% of toughness to power.
Since you do have 25 in curses you also get an additional 2% dmg for each unique condition on them.

I havent personally played this style im either all conditionmancer or all powermancer

thanks for your input, although a spec with 10 in power is not exactly what I call “has burst”
I’m currently fooling around with 30/30/0/0/10 with scepter/dagger and staff in offhand. I wasn’t able to test it a lot, but until now it wields a good amount of condition damage (around 750 on sc/d) with a nice opportunity to burst (staff+DS). I’ll keep trying and if I think it’s viable, I’ll maybe write up my gear and my exact spec + playstyle to get more input/comments or just to show others

So … since I too like a particular scepter aesthetic for my necro, is there a primarily scepter-based build that’s viable for PvE and WvW? I know this topic is a bit old but I didn’t see a build posted that people had actually played.

I’m a pretty new necro too, but this spec seems to work fine in wvw, just spam your specter/dagger, skills into DS 5→4→3, people just melt. It’s a pretty standard build I think.

Hmm. Maybe this is the ele in me talking but seems like the stability on DS would be huge in WvW (soul reaping 30). Are you not running into problems getting CC’ed all to hell while in DS? Otherwise, it looks like a fun build on paper.
