Reaper looks really powerful and has a unique and diverse kit. Looks so fun to play and impactful.
Also the trait changes they talked about made me excited (transfusion rezz, vampiric in ds, vamp aura).
I agree. I love the Reaper, and it might become my main, if they don’t do a great job with Ele’s spec, the Tempest.
As a guardian main, I’m rather envious of mesmers and necros right now.
Loved it too. Animations were beautiful for the most part – some of the spins could use more follow through animation to make it flow better. Overall gameplay looked very fluid. I think Reaper will be fun to play.
people are dying to complain but my inner theory crafter sees so much build diversity here.
I always wanted to level up a necromancer, to share the ascended gear I crafted for my ele and mesmer. Now I feel more motivated to actually do it.

I have never been this hyped before. I’m literally so excited for these new awesome things to play with that I don’t even feel like playing my normal boring Necromancer right now. Siphoning through DS is amazing, though I’d still love to see utility skills and a few other forms of healing like regeneration work. The shouts were all pretty cool, blood magic rework sounds great, and the amount of fields and finishers were amazing.
That isn’t to say everything is perfectly balanced, but overall I am really excited, and with a little bit of number work I think it will be great. Awesome job all around imo.
I was sure I was gonna be main-ing my mesmer as a chronomancer, but reaper just looks fun. However it turns out, chillomancer just looks fun. I love the idea that damage doubles when they are under half life.
They certainly got the inescapable serial killer flavor down.

I’ll be really thankful once they decide to follow through with the dream of attrition they had back when they first dreamed of the class. Hopefully the next spec will be a blood mage with some decent supportive abilities.

You are the only one that cares about me, I have the right to vent wherever I want considering I’ve been a necromancer main for 10 years and I’m tired of seeing my profession getting quite literally kitten on even in the stream by rubi and that pathetic joke with the trailer with “le ebin funny voice XDD”.

I didn’t have high expectations before the stream, but it all looked so solid.
The animations are super sexy. All the skills seem to synnergize really well with our traits (not just the new ones), we get 2 dark and 1 ice field, 2 whirl finishers, and pulsing (!!) stability in DS! And a lot of skills and traits get scaling effects.
Really, the only question I have now is: who is not going to use the Reaper? It just seems so much better than the regular Death Shroud, even for condition builds.
The only complaint I have would be the shout heal. It healed for less than 4k hp and only the life force gain scaled. The cooldown was 20 sec and it could be lowered with the shout trait, but 4k hp is still way too little to even consider it instead of Consume Conditions.

I doubt a whole lot of people going to use the shout heal a lot. I might stick to consume for most of the time.

The specialization looks freaking amazing! BUT what I’d like to thank you for the most is the fact that you were working on the new Death Shroud before you came up with specializations. This means you were aware of necro’s issues and attempted to fix it. This alone makes me grateful as most of us necromancers thought we were forsaken by the devs. Thanks for proving us wrong.
I’m really hyped for the Reaper. Hope the numbers won’t be lowered too much – our DPS probably still wouldn’t be as high as elementalist’s or warrior’s so let us hope for being a part of PvE meta, please!
Not worrying about the PvP at all – people are gonna kitten their pants when we scream “Your soul is mine!”. LOLOLOLOVE IT!

And finally we get a might trait that isnt locked behind a broken ICD. Please keep that as it is! The numbers on it look good when you compare it to forceful greatsword.

Honestly I am kind of glad we don’t have blasts. I know how useful they are, but I’d like for them to find a different way for us to be viable. Just giving everyone blasts isn’t very flavorful or, for some of us at least, fun.

I think they dont really want to give us blasts and more active defence but give us something more necro like.
At least give us projectile destruction.

I’m glad for you. I main a Guardian and the first alt I created was my Necro, after getting the Champion Phantom Achievement she became my “bank character”. Reaper looks like a really competitive spec for PVE (Finally!)
What I take away from all of these updates is that Arenanet really cares. They want to make all the professions fun to play and allow all professions to be played in different ways. They aren’t trying to make every profession do everything, and they are trying to keep the flavor for each profession.

I ike the class, super hyped about the blood magic changes, the only thing is shouts felt kind of shallow, was expecting a bit of support via inflicting stuff on enemies and giving stuff to allies, as if you were reaping away stuff from enemies to give it to allies!

yeah i agree. i hate when they do that in other games.. you basically play the same class no matter what you roll.
I see quite a few solid build choices as-is. Deciding on what to take when these come out will be difficult. Good stuff Robert Gee, good stuff.

After 2.5 years being told we were attrition if only we could master DS and having our shouts, screams and protests unanswered; I will be finally happy to say main a necro . Although the numbers are not finalized, it does finally seem as if a dev has heard our pleas.
Yes! True attrition! Ah, I do so love to see the light of hope go out of the eyes of opponents in the morning! (or night. or. you know. whenever.) I’ve always loved the out-live your opponent and wear down their desire to fight until you stomp them idea of necro. And now it’s really holding true (seemingly)
I have to agree with some of hte previous posts. THANK YOU for giving us the very thing we needed to actually make someone afraid of our attacks. Now we can actually play like an attrition class. The longer we fight the more we wear through there cooldowns the more likely those painful chills are gonna start stacking up and the weaker they are.
Glorious. And I can see it working with kitten near every necro playstyle.
