Hi I’m leveling necro up as an alt, but secretly ive always wanted to main necro. Anyways, whats a good setup for power? Is staff worth using, i noticed a lot of it is condi based. Right now im doin axe/focus dagger/horn. Any advise or links to builds would be swell.

mm i dont think you will have any aow with those weapons o.o

That’s pretty much the weapon set I used to level as well.
If hitting AoE damage is your main concern, remember that we have Deathshroud #4, and Deathshroud #1 can be traited to pierce with a mere 10 points into Soul Reaping (but if you’re going power necro, I’d imagine you’d be putting points into SR anyway).

Utility wise, since those weapons are going to put you in or near melee range you can actually make pretty decent use of Bone Minions for some AoE burst on a 20 second cool down. Then of course there’s the nifty new 35 second cooldown on Well of Suffering (which is, imo, one of the best choices for a power necro anyway).

Even when I only make use some of these options I still find my dagger/warhorn + axe/focus necro has enough AoE damage to clean house.

Editied to Add: Oh! Forgot to mention that staff is indeed a perfectly acceptable choice for a power necro if you want the range/utility. Staff #4 is going to be your heavy hitter on that set, but it’s on a 25 second cool down.
My preferred course of action is to spam out all my marks for the burst dps, then drop into Death Shroud until the cool down on my weapon swap is done and I can switch back to dagger/warhorn.

i would love my necro to have a evil laught like in in LOL, so i do that combo (its a simple combo i know i could DS6 and 3 to finish, maybe a well too or poison cloud) and make an evil laught to the mobs wich are just melting out there XD

I agree with cyst. Staff may have some longer CD skills but firing off the 3-4 combo and the other marks is pretty rapid. After that, switch to another weapon set. Staff 2 has regen and is helpful in healing both you and your minions. Use DS as a third weapon set. In all, you can rotate through 3 weapon sets and utilities without much waiting on CD just like with other jobs.

i dont use power/crit, im still lv 31 with my neco, using condition damage (on lv power+condition damage) and only silvers can live past staff 2 3 septer 2 dagger 5. and even if silvers doesnt die they just melt on my feets XD, butw something cool is.
As a condition mancer ive done a lot of group event alone, even boses+the surrounding mobs, i dont even care about them, i just make a rotation of my conditions then blood is power+ Epidemic then MUAHAHAHA melt all over my feets XD, something cool abut conditions is, you never stop damaging foes, even is youre dodging youre still doing damage, and there are those thimes where you cant just melee, scepter 2 staff 3 and job done XD

While I certainly understand that condition specced necros can be/are quite awesome the question of this thread specifically requested information about setups for power necros.

Unless the OP reposts requesting otherwise, perhaps we could focus on answering the question that was asked, rather than the question we wish had been asked?

You can use pretty much anything if you’re just killing random mobs to level. I’m doing a hybrid build that leans toward conditions, so I use scepter/dagger most of the time, and I switch to axe/focus if I need direct damage instead. If you’re going pure power then you’ll want to beef up your DS as well; it’s the best direct damage tool we have.

I use staff with any of my builds. It has good conds, and pierce to damage more than one target.

Other than that, I use dual daggers. I know, don’t kill me please. I just enjoy them a lot, and their dps is great.

Thanks for all the advise guys. Went from 7 to 31 yesterday and today using d/w and staff. The staff is very good with just throwing everything down then blood of power well of suffering and switching ds 4 thento d/w to mop up w.e else still lives.

Staff is a must it just provides so much, I also use axe dagger which is working well for me in tpvp wvw and pve dungeons no complaints as for traits i am 30/0/10/0/30. whatever build I run I have always used staff and had 10 in DM for Greater Marks. I find I use Death Shroud more and more in WvW Unyielding Blast in Soul Reaping and Reapers Might in Spite firing through zergs is a lot of loot bags :/ coupled with the occasional mark spamming aoe and life transfer.
