I play power necro pretty much exclusively; the marauder, blood magic, siphoning wells build.
I have a general idea of most of my skills, which situations to use them in, etc. The only one I can’t figure out is lich form. I don’t know when to use this skill, not wanting to ‘waste’ it, only to end up barely ever using it at all.

Would anyone be able to give me tips for when/how to use lich form? (PvP only)
Do I use it in 1v1s? if so, against which classes/builds? How do I know when to use it in a teamfight without getting killed in 3 secs? How do I position myself when I use it?

Basically I just want tips to be able to get the most out of this elite in PvP.

use it when you’re unable to be focused, IE when your enemies are cc’d.

Lich pretty much sucks even when traited. Yes it can do miracles in those very rare moments but overall it’s a wasted slot.

Use plague instead.

Make sure you always have the high ground when you lich. If anyone can close the gap on you when you pop that spell you’ve pretty much handed in the towel. Try to gauge when your opponent has used his gap closers and dodges.

In my opinion, best use is when an opponent is down and they attempt to res. Something you can already do better with wells (better because it’s more flexible, and survivable because you still have access to your other utilities…).

Seriously though, you should take plague. And if you use Spite, go Curse instead to get Master of Corruption: plague on 120 sec, consume conditions on 20 sec and, if needed, corrupt boon on 27 sec. Too good to pass up.

Plague is superior, Lich has too many counters. Trust your own instinct and experience, there’s a reason why you can’t find a good time to use it. This is because when you pop Lich, you’re completely totally vulnerable, and you lose all access to cc’s and utilities.

Where as with plague, you get to clutch rez teammates, you get a guaranteed stomp, it saves you when you’re being pressured which happens a lot to necros.

Imo lich is most useful coming into team fights when everyone is distracted fighting each other. Stick to the sidelines and pick the easiest target to burst down. Once he’s down keep auto attacking until dead, line it up for piercing if someone tries to save. If they shadow refuge use lich 3. Then just keep wreaking. Don’t bother targeting or using lich vs mesmers unless you think you can one shot them. If u have lich traited and someone uses an elite like rampage might as well use it since it has lower cool down.

The best use of lich I’ve seen is from stealth, or entering a fight from the side. Stay close to your target, use #4 if they invuln, use #5 and #3 on downed (this strips stab and interupts). And uhh pretend your a bus and blind side people.

The best lich is one that comes out of nowhere

I’ve actually only started using lich for the aoe condi cleanse, pop out some braindead meatsacks, throw a mark, then leave. I never do autos anymore because it’s a death sentence and I actually get better benefit from leaving lich than staying in it (life force on end).

Drop Lich for Plague m8.

Lich is pretty easy to deal with in teamfights and even 1v1s. A single Ele will make Lich pretty useless due to blinds. Add Thieves and Mesmer or multiple Eles and Lich often does very little. Oh and Engis Elexir X f5 too, though that is equally awful for Plague. You will get a a lot more mileage out of Plague.

Hey there! I also play power necro and use lich. I have considered using plague lately but here’s what I do with my lich.

Generally I’ll cap home, then mosey on into mid (or wherever the rest of my team is) stay on higher ground, pop lich and take out unsuspecting players as they’re distracted by my other teammates (asking for a target first helps) I pop lich when I have very high HP, and stay in even while being attacked. Then when HP is getting too low I drop lich form and immediately go into DS.

Sometimes if I’m defending a point and see a single enemy running in to contest, I’ll pop lich form. At least half the time they’ll turn around and run away and the other half I’ll kill them. This works usually when people are just afraid of how hard lich hits and don’t know how to counter it. Even in my guild pvp tournaments other players say they’re afraid to fight me even when they’re much more skilled than I.

In skyhammer, use the jumpy thing and stand up on the ledge for mid point. In forest, standing up on the ledge behind the point. for support.

I almost never ever use lich in group fights when I’m on the ground. It’s too easy to get burst down without landing a hit. Also watch out for being moa’d while in lich, and watch for reflects so you don’t kill yourself. Since lich can spank so many people, if you end up killing yourself due to reflects people get REALLY high on their horses and will troll you lol

Also, if you see an enemy using lich, it’s funny to hide behind him/her and kill them with your lich.
