Make wells add damage somehow
Since we now know they can make combo fields move, a reaper trait that changed wells to PBAE that travelled with us would have been great.
But beyond that, I’d be afraid of a static +XX% damage multiplier simply because Wells play too large a role in WvW already. It would just force Necros further into that niche and that’s certainly something we don’t want/need.
Other forms of utility could be justified though. Actual pulsing stab/protection/resistance to allies for example.
Well how about this, non-player creatures take 20% more damage while in wells.
This might be a cool idea for a trait. If it was a runeset, I think mesmers would be taken after hot release. Stuff like this would really just be a bandaid on a lot of the weapons though. Necros have 2 finishers across all of their weapons, and dagger auto, life blast, warhorn 5, focus 4, and tainted shackles are the only weapon skills worth using in pve. IMO, the weapons an utilities need to be addressed before they throw in random gimmicks to make necros desirable.

If they remove the ICD on Chilling Darkness, then if you also have Bitter Chill Well of Darkness applies 3 vuln every tick, and Putrid Mark applies 3 vuln per Well you blast.
So that’s all they really have to do to give us some more AoE damage amp. Just remove the ICD on Chilling Darkness.
But more on topic about the original idea… I think wells are already our best utilities in PvE. Have you tried the blood grandmaster trait Vampiric Rituals?

I love that trait, I use it pretty much 100% of the time but it’s value isn’t seen in pve as much as it’s noticed in wvw and spvp. The damage boost would make people look at necro’s and think “ok, we have our ps warrior now we need our well necro”. Wouldn’t that be nice to hear for pve
I like it, but it needs some things noted.
First, it can’t be more than 10%. A 20% damage bonus would destroy WvW.
Second, it would be horrible as a rune set when you think about it. Making it a rune set would mean that only people wearing the runes get the bonus, so if you don’t have a special set of armor for just running with Necros/Chrono’s then it’s a waste. Its function would be that of a Scholar rune without the universal bonus.
Third, I love the idea as a trait but it needs balancing. My idea would be to separate Vampiric Rituals into two traits. The first would be Vampirism Wells + Protection in the Major Line to compete with Vampiric Presence (Selfish vs group healing) and move Banshee’s Wail to Spite. Then for the Grandmaster make it give 20% recharge bonus for Wells and 10% more damage to enemies in Wells. This would take away competition from Chrono’s for the PvE Well damage bonus.

I’d actually make corruptions do that, since wells are already a huge source of AoE damage.

Any Class can apply Vulnerability he wants something that only necros will have some KIND OF DUBUFF like in WOW that only Dark Knight could apply . Or How Guard symbol now work that buff dmg on enemies that are in symbols
but this will not help necros become meta …..as long as there are Elems with of Ice bow….

Necro ? Raw DMG ? that isn’t even best in game ? Vampiric aura ? 60 Hp per hit ? While Elem with On dodge can heal for 2 k Or water field blast blast and all party 100% Hp
necro is one of worst classes in game ….I will reroll revenant and suggest this to every one

In a pve environment, and that detail is important, necro’s are Sooooo far behind in dps from the top classes and lack good group dps support. I don’t think they would buff necro damage but if necro’s had a way other than vuln to increase everyone’s dps by around 20% not only would we be taken but we would be sought after. Wells don’t last long enough to make it super OP but they last long enough to burn down a boss. I’m not sure on the implications it might have in pvp or wvw so let’s assume this is a pve exclusive thing.
A wells rune set is a pretty good idea, now that mesmers have wells too.
But bonus damage from a rune set is a nerf. If you have been paying attention, you’ll notice that 5% additional damage from runes will be met with a 5% nerf someplace else. (Cough, master of corruption, cough).
