Mark of Evasion
If you jump and dodge at the same time it does not trigger.
Also why you dodging out of combat?

Yes please, it makes skipping in dungeons a bit harder for us.
Would be a great QoL fix.

It actually does trigger sometimes. It just happens when you land.
I feel like it should trigger at the start of the dodge. And obviously fix it so it doesnt trigger when out of combat.
I feel like it should trigger at the start of the dodge.
So do I.
Having it trigger at the beggining would make the trait a lot more responsive.
And placing the mark would feel a lot more controlled than having to estimate where you and your opponents are going to end up after the dodge.
nah keep it the way it is, so you actually have to fight the dungeon mops

You do realise this kinds of things make people don’t want us in dungeons right?

To be fair they have plenty of other valid reasons as well. Not that I disagree with you or OP.

No, I like it when I dodge in and nuke people while gaining Regen.
For vs player reasons I like it the way it is. I’m not sure what’s the devs position on skipping mobs…
The Dhuumfire thread
A trait like this should not trigger when out of combat. Your opinion on skipping mobs should have no impact on this.
Besides devs have stated that some mobs are meant to be skipped by design. Also in open world you dont clear every mob. You run past mobs all the time and often you dont want to be put in combat randomly. And all the other damage on dodge traits from other classes only work in combat.
It wouldnt be such a big deal if it was a major trait. But its a minor. So whenever we equip blood magic we have to deal with the self trolling. Swapping out a spec line just to stop a minor from procing while running around is beyond ridiculous.

2 stacks of bleeding…“nuke”
Also, when you use your dodges properly – to evade attacks – you’re more likely to get regen when your attacker immediately triggers the mark, instead of maybe not even triggering it at all if you place it away from them.
Although I have always used MoE with my other Marks as traps when OOC on PvP points etc., the best of all worlds would probably be to make it trigger in combat only. Even in PvP, there’s times when it triggers out of combat when you don’t want it too (dodge rolling to evade a ranged skill, fear or whatever before closing), thus you have to wait 8 seconds to trigger it again against your target.
The downsides in PvE I think outweigh the advantages. I have always hated agrroing mobs in PvE while traited with MoE. We used to be able to untrait it but now you have to switch the entire line.
Well, I guess we could just do that in PvE since switching out lines is as easy as switching out traits now…
I also agree with that it should trigger at the start of the role, just like how they fixed the revive trait with well of blood I think.
If I’m not mistaken… It’s the only on-dodge trait that triggers while out of combat. Things like Engi’s dropping bombs, Rangers getting protection or Warrior’s damaging foes only happens when they’re in combat. Seems weird that ours happens both in and out of it.

Probably some dev reasoning: " With this they can dodge to set up a mark of blood before the battle starts."

You actually got it right, it is the reason for this behavior and it works great in PvP but not in PvE side. They just have to make it not work in PvE like it did in PvP.

2 stacks of bleeding by itself sound like a wet noodle but adding 2 stacks of bleeding to an already 10 stacks of bleeding is going to feel the pain.
If it starts at the beginning of the dodge then you would have to walk to your enemy and then dodge away from him. Wouldn’t that be a counter product?
Right now, I don’t have to waste time and walk all the way into his face just to dodge away from him, instead I dodge from range into him and then swap weapon and this will be a 5 stacks of bleeding on top of everything else I throw at him.

Totally agree. It is so annoying in PvE. If it was a major trait, I would never pick it and problem would be solved. However, since it is a minor… We have to pray for a change of it to combat only.
+1, I want it too to be combat only. It’s really a pain having to switch specialization just to skip in dungeons with others.

I’m sure there’s no other reason than MoE has always worked like this and now they forgot to change it to work like any damaging on-dodge trait is supposed to: only in combat.
Also, what would you do in WvW? It’s a PvP environment, but there are lots of guards and stuff you just want to run by without getting slowed down.

It would be counterproductive to use dodges as gap closers.

The Thief trait Uncatchable also triggers out of combat, so Mark of Evasion is not the only one. (The wiki entry on Uncatchable even states that is the only one to trigger out of combat! :P)
I too would very much like to see both changed to in combat only.

Fortunately for thieves uncatchable is a major trait. So they dont have to pick it.

And even if they did, they have stealth and teleports for skipping.
