"Masochism" as a possible future trait?
Good thing to replace 25 Spite trait, which completely dumb and useless

That was what I was thinking too.

According to Jon Peters, Siphoned Power is a good trait lol. The Devs scare me sometimes.

1 stack of might on 25% hp, yeaaah. Wow, so OP, much strong, very powerful.
Anythings better than current Siphoned power. That doesnt mean that this is a good suggestion though. :P

it’s 1 stack each time you are hit under 25%, but yet it’s an awful trait.
I’ve never seen more than 5 stacks, just before I died.
I’d like to see more interesting traits replacing this one.

I think it’s a good idea for a trait, it just suffers the problem of being “too little, too late”. It needs tweaks, but the basic functionality of the trait I think is good. The current implementation is not.

Make it 5 stacks of might when hit under 50% health with a 7 second (or something like that) cooldown. Easy fix and I think the problem would be solved.
I do not like the idea of Masochism as the 25 point trait in the Spite line. Granted, this is coming from the perspective of a power necromancer, but that is our main trait line. Playing a pure power build, there is less room to manipulate conditions than in a condition build (dagger OH less used, staff less used, etc). You can, but you make sacrifices to do so. If a trait like this came into play, I would rather it be the curses 25 and the current curses 25 be the spite 25.
But again, I think that all this could be fixed by slightly reworkng the current spite 25.
I still think the best fix for siphoned power would be to make it might or vuln on crit.

That would work too but it would need a decent ICD.
Another problem is that it takes away from the feel of the trait. As it stands, the trait is supposed to make you more powerful as you get closer to death. On crit would take away from that feel. I dont feel strongly about this point but Anet might.
It wouldnt need in icd. Forceful gs doesnt have an icd. The same goes for all vuln on crit traits on other classes. None of them have an icd, they are just short duration might/vuln stacks.

Point taken, but gs has a relatively slow auto attack compared to dagger. Can you imagine a high crit chance necro using dagger auto?
Not that I wouldnt like it, but I would worry about how powerful it would be
Might stacks up very fast with 100b. They could make it have 1 second icd like empowering might on the guard though. That would be fair imo.
If they just give necro weak spot it would be fine. Its a 25 point minor for ele so it fits in the same slot/tier as siphoned power.

An on-crit trait in the tree that gives no precision isn’t good design. They already stated it was one of the many reasons Dhuumfire was badly implemented as a trait. Don’t start putting more badly designed traits in, kthx.
Hehe Bhawb is in a fiery mood this morning
But agreed
In that case they should revamp 100s of traits across all classes. You know its a weak arguement. :P
Could make it vuln/might on hit but then it would be op. Which is why even in the power lines of other classes they are still on crit traits.

I have less than 100 hours combined on all 7 of my non-Necromancer characters, so I can’t say I know their trait lines well :P
But in general, forcing on-crit traits onto a non-precision giving tree doesn’t make sense. This was part of the issue as to why Dhuumfire is stupidly designed, and putting it onto a Minor trait would be even worse, we don’t want to re-create the crap that is Reanimator/Protection of the Horde. On-hit can be balanced just fine on its own with ICDs, no need to force the on-crit.
Even if they changed it to work at 50% health, and grant more Might, it would still be crappy compared to most classes GM minors.
We need a trait that works reliably in combat, not when we are in danger mode. Necro isn’t really boring to play atm, I think it is very fun. What we need is a consistent performance increase for power damage specs. Siphoned Power would be a great place to boost power damage without making conditions too OP.
We already have enough interesting traits and skills, just give us a plain +10% damage buff for an easy requirement like plenty of other professions get. Maybe then Necro will be an option for competitive PVE groups?

Heres a list of on crit traits which arent in the precision line:

Thats 10/30 traits. And I may have missed some. Theres also plenty of traits which effect crit chance and they arent in precision lines either. Most builds sit around at 30% crit chance or higher so having crit traits in non crit lines is perfectly fine. But I will kind of agree that maybe not as a minor because then you cant take an alternative.
