Hey guys, been playing around with my build a lot and I got my traits nailed down, 20 spite, 20 blood, 30 death. Gives me a lot of minion buffs, both to damage and to minion hp. But I have a hard throwing myself into the mix. I use a minion in each slot and together they far outdamage me. In fact without them I can’t really kill anything, which makes sense with the way I am built. But what role could I really play? I built my guy for power but I still can’t do much damage…what other role could I play since my minions seem to be the big hitters?

P.S. Loving the necro

i have similar build on my mm necro. i mainly just keep minions healed with mark of evasion and on tougher mobs use mark of blood and other marks.

So you use a staff? Because I would really love to be up there giving damage with them but honestly the flesh golem is stronger than I am…any way I can do damage too?

Close to same build. What you want to do is rotate staff with your dmg set of weapons. I use scepter/horn. This allows you to drop signs and do some direct dmg. Use wells to keep your minions up and try to group people together before using putrid explosion.

Granted its not as consistent dmg as a condition build, but if your minions are doing their job and you use putrid explosion right your be ok.

As has been said it’s best to alternate between the staff and your damage weapon. Personally I recommend the main hand dagger, it’s got the best damage a necro can get on the auto attack chain and is one of the more efficient life force generators. It is melee range but since you’re specced out for extra toughness and vitality just by getting the MM traits it’s not too bad really.

I use a staff and then something+off hand dagger. It gives you a lot of weakness to spread around doing aggressive protection of your minions.

I would love to be able to do MM. However every time I try I get angry at how fast the minions die. Like seriosly they die in like 4 hits. Espcially in WvW when theres like 10 aoes down its just useless. Much better to have other utility skills. Only minion I use is the flesh golem and that’s outside of WvW.

I’m a minion master myself, and I agree that they seem to go down quickly in WvWvW, but in PvE, I’ve found my minions to be extraordinarily strong. Having a good trait build helps (the 50% minion health, for example, is a must), and my minions only seem to ever have trouble staying alive when fighting champion level mobs that rely on wide AoE attacks. In almost any fight with regular mobs and even most bosses, and even in groups, my minions generally tend to emerge from the fray alive.

I find that being a minion master gives me a wide variety of advantages over many of the other professions, as well as other necromancers. I love being able to use my minions as both combatants and distractions, plus having my traits spec’d so minions heal me has proven so extraordinarily valuable.

I would think, and this is some theorycraft here, that if you have the max amount of minions (I think thats 6) out, it gives an opposing players options to either ignore them to fight you (in which case you can focus on surviving while they try to kill you) or they try to control/kill the pets (in which case you focus on DPS)

Also, don’t forget some of the skills the pets have, like immobilize and blind, those can come in handy.

Also, don’t forget, more than half the time they don’t move, get stuck, die in one hit, don’t regen for the next fight, and attack neutral mobs.

With a better ai and a minor trait that let’s minions avoid 80% of aoe attacks, I would MM spec
